Jon Gruden thread (merged)

Hey, if the AD hires Gruden I'm all about it with everyone else and I'm certainly not trying to pollute the punch bowl. Yes, J. Gruden knows what he is doing but I also know he realizes it would be a challenge. In fact, the more people who take a realistic approach to his possible hiring, the more patience they would have if a glitch or two comes along down the road. I would prefer this be the last "Big Orange Meltdown" I have to witness, if you know what I mean. I would prefer a Big Orange Football Dynasty.

Look into the ring. You're getting sleepy... very sleepy. When I count to three and snap my fingers, you will awake and Jon Gruden will be the new head coach. You will love him and be amazed by his greatness. 1... 2... 3...

That's the kind if noise I'm hearing. I think they are trying to keep everybody from staying home on Saturday and having a mostly Bama crowd. The decision to move forward will get the fans squarely behind the team. Like I said before, they may be dangerous when they have nothing to lose. Wouldn't that be something?

It would, except that we would look really goofy in the national media if we fire Dooley, and the team promptly beats Bama for him. I am assuming they let him coach out the season, until I'm told otherwise.

Makes sense to me. It seems kind of backwards but in this situation if an announcement was made this week I could see it exciting the fan base. Don't know how the players would react though. Team obviously mailed it in for Wyoming in '08 but that was a much different situation than this, as far as how the players felt about Fulmer I would imagine.

If they fire him this week, they may not let him finish the year, to prevent him from beating Bama and SCar and the press we'd then get.

If we lose the next two games, and he is fired then, it would be easier to let him finish out.

If it ended up being Gruden, it wouldn't make sense to keep Dooley around.

If you fire Dooley, Gruden could start recruiting immediately. Otherwise, he has to wait until the end of the season.

I'd have to believe Dooley is out the door asap if Gruden is taking the job.

I wonder what Gruden's ESPN contract says about leaving midseason.

Yeah, I don't know.

Maybe he can't leave during the middle of the season. He obviously has an out clause at the end of the season. But yeah, if he just walks out in the middle of the season, they wouldn't have anyone lined up to replace him?

I also wonder if the NCAA would allow him to actively recruit for us if he's still doing MNF.

I would think it is just a matter of ironing out the details with whomever he is going to hire. Hart knows he has lost any confidence with the fanbase and the longer he lets that erode the more or longer it will take to get it back. UNLESS he hires someone like Gruden. I don't see any benefit to letting Coach Dooley hang around unless it would be for the kids he has coached but we have heard that the team has lost confidence in him as well. Who knows........maybe we find out in the a.m. We can hope.

These are the one's I came up with:

Like everyone else here I love the Vols and just want what is best for the University and the team and I believe Gruden should be our 1st choice.

Smokey and I tried to hold the fort down without you. Glad you're back, because from what I'm hearing we may have a busy few days.[/QUOTE]

Thanks. Was awesome. The area across the bay to the left was my dive site in St. Maarten. Beyond description.

The gears are turning. I'm not sure when it goes down. Lots going on and lots of talking in soft voices.
