I don't think Bama is that much easier of a job than Tennessee for a coach of Saban's abilities. I think he could have had the same career arc here in the same amount of time with the same amount of effort.

The perception of the Bama job has been enhanced by Saban.

Outsiders now think it's really hard to win at Tennessee. That's true if we think we can just plug in a coach and hope he's a new star on the rise. With a great coach and the nation's top recruiting budget, it shouldn't be hard to win here.

I agree on all points, and have been saying so for years.

We get what we accept.....and we've accepted excuses for way too long.

I put UK Basketball in the same category. They have a limited in-state recruiting base, and they compete with UofL for what little there is. Going forward, UK hoops isn't an easy job either, for an average coach. But a star coach, rumors of his methods notwithstanding, can make it look easy at a place like that.

We don't have the in-state recruiting base to just plug in a football coach. But, we do have the tradition, support, and facilities to attract a star.

I meant NFL and NCAA

Mike Hamilton, destroyed Tennessee athletics. Hart, should flush the system and hire aggressively. Yes, Gruden, would be a terrific hire. College football is about recruiting. Since TN, is not a Blue chip rich state we have to rely on out of state recruits. Those 4 and 5 star players would flock to a name like Gruden!

Put yourself in this hypothetical. Your a High school senior and Dooley/Chaney makes a visit and then Gruden makes a visit. Who would you want to play for?

I find it hard to believe that it's as far along as is being indicated. Hopefully it's true though, because Gruden sure does seem to be dropping hints.

Don't worry Dooley fans, I'll answer this for you.
