Jon Gruden to Miami FL (merged)

So why did Janzen Jackson come to play for old man river?

Why did Hunter and Da'Rick come to play for Baggett?

More so than winning, players want to go pro and get paid millions. If I'm 18 years old, I'd assume a head coach that won a Super Bowl knows what it takes to get me there.

Yea Gruden isn't going there and Miami isn't exactly the powerhouse it used to be. Even if he did, yes he will pull some top recruits. Not in the numbers you are assuming.

Success in the NFL does not equate to the college game. If you don't win games, teams aren't going to draft your players. Arian Foster is the rare exception.

Deleware and Idaho's QB's are currently projected as 3rd round picks.

I don't know how Gruden will fare at the college level but just like Corey Miller, Jaquese Smith, Janzen Jackson flocked to Monte/Ed O and wide receivers flocked to Charlie Baggett... the same thing is going to happen with Jon Gruden(x2). If he is going 6-6 and isn't sending kids to the NFL, that will change. Until then, he is a Super Bowl winning head coach and is bringing a new era upon Miami. If Lane Kiffin, a failed NFL head coach with a losing record can sell that, surely Jon Gruden can. Jmo.

he won't go to miami. that's a rats nest down there. 20 miles from campus to stadium, 27,000 fans a game. they don't have 3.4 million to pay him a bit more than nonthing !! i could go on and on but ------- :ermm: :ermm:

I agree and couldn't have said it any better!! All the Canes fans here are going crazy here lighting up the boards on the Gruden hire but all they have to do is look at the Miami Heat to know that one player or a coach by himself doesn't make a team!!! Lebron, D-Wade and Bosh and 3rd place in their division. A true disappointment so far!

Well It may all be a bunch of crap Since were relying on Twitter:

@dennisdoddcbs: RT @SI_PeterKing: hearing the Gruden-to-Miami rumors are fraudulent. But will keep you informed if I hear differently.

once i saw his ESPN salary I was sold that it is all rumor... Earlier though I thought it was going to be true... but dang if he is really making that at ESPN then he would be crazy to leave for the stress of a coaching gig...

What do Delaware and IDaho have to do with anything? He's not going to Miami. He is content with having a Super Bowl ring and making bookoo bucks from ESPN. How much of Kiffin's "awesome recruiting" had to do with playing in the SEC and all the media attention surrounding him? Once everyone figures out he can't coach, and he's not sending EVERYONE to the NFL, he will drop off.

Gruden can get paid 6 mill per year in NFL. Even if he failed he would be given 3 years, he isn't giving up 9 million over a three year period.

I said a couple times earlier that taking a pay cut for a more stressful job doesn't make sense. Some people do things that don't make sense though.

Guess we'll see how this plays out.

You make no sense. First you say you have to win to send players to the NFL and I pointed out that crappy teams send players to the NFL too. It has to do with everything YOU said.

Your arguments are weird and you use zero facts to back your logic. You have no idea what Jon Gruden would do as a coach at the college level. Pure speculation. For you to play it off like he'd be a failure is complete horse poopy. We do know first hand that Lane Kiffin was able to pick up top recruits just based on his daddy and we've seen that Charlie Baggett has done the same. Top recruits want to play for coaches with NFL experience because they believe those coaches will help get them there, period.

A successful pro coach is guaranteed to tear it up in college. The Hurricanes will have a decided schematic advantage in every game they play.

Besides recruiting I don't see why anyone would coach the Canes! I mean really beside the little run they had there for a couple of years what tradition do they have???

They have no budget, poor facilties, like someone earlier said " a stadium 20 miles from campus" which belongs to the Dolphins, averages about 30,000 fans per game 50,000 if its Florida State, and living here one of the worse crime cities in the United States, heck, they even had players murdered and drive-by shooting on campus. Shannon did a fantastic job of cleaning it up but the Canes games I have been to "one was a Vol win" :dance2::dance2::) there seems to be like a high school atmosphere. I always said years ago that the Canes were winning because they didn't play anybody but the 1-2 games per year kinda like Boise State now. We'll they joined the ACC and what have they done???????? Imagine if they were in the SEC!!!!!!

This is from Adam Schefter:

Adam_Schefter ESPN MNF analyst Jon Gruden on speculatuon he could return to coaching: "I am committed to Monday Night Football and to ESPN."

That should put an end to it.

Ehhhhh...wrong!

This guy promised his players that they'd have a "decided schematic advantage" against everybody they played because of his Super Bowl-level NFL experience. It was true, wasn't it?
