Jones Doesn't Rule out Paulk

I agree he just tells people what they went to hear. Of course folks quickly realize that and when he preaches family, foundation, and character, it stands to reason they call it like it is, garbage.

Butch just has to hope he can win before it all goes bad. The clock is ticking.

So you got Butch pegged as a lying pos bereft of any decency? It's win at all cost and everything else he says is bs. Ok.

I'd bet Marques Ford would have liked to have seen some of that compassion, and moral compass/commitment floated his way a few weeks prior to NSD. Shoot, he hadn't even assaulted anyone.

The staff was honest with him, any ask for much more than that. This staff demonstrates morals Leb ya just gotta be able to see em. Most can't cause they aren't lookin close enough. They/You get caught up in the negativity of the past several years and cant differentiate between a clueless, and a capable staff. Did I wanna see Ford let go? No but still when the job is on your shoulders and it's your responsability to go after the NEEDS of this program sometimes it gets ugly. But like I said Coach Jones was honest with the kid and he landed on his feet at another unniversity with a great oppurtunity. Even Fords HS coach said it was done respectably and honest and ya can't ask for anything else.

Of course I can ask for more than that. If you're going to preach commitment, then honor the commitment you took from a kid who did everything right. Especially if you're going to for a kid who isn't.

No coach we have ever had, in the modern era,can live up to your expectations.

Sure they could. Butch does a lot of things right. Imo he works on just a few things and he would have my full support. I was happy to see he didn't do what a lot of fans were calling for and cut loose Bruce, Lovingood, Townsend, and others late because they didn't have enough *'s. I don't care for the whole blue shirt stuff, but can live with it for now. We'll see how those play out. Good job there, not so much with Ford.

See? Some works for me, some not so much. Hopefully Butch works on it. I'd like to see him NOT take commitments that he doesn't intend to honor. Pretty simple IMO.

High risk, so I guess it depends on how much upside Paulk has. We've taken hit after hit recently with all the rape accusations. You take Paulk back and he screws up again, we will be dragged over the coals. I'm not arguing he shouldn't get a second chance, I'm just saying Butch needs to tread lightly. It's not an easy decision, I'm sure. I wouldn't want to be the one making it.

There may well be reasons for allowing Paulk back as a member of the team, but depth at RB shouldn't be one of the reasons. He may be a decent person who made a really bad decision? There is a heavy burden on him (Paulk) to justify his re-instatement.

All us fans know is rumor and speculation. We really don't know what happened other than what others are saying what they heard from this or that person. They could be totally right or totally wrong. I would hope that the ones with factual information, such as the coaching staff, will have the facts so they can make a decision on what should be done. If he was guilty, what was the severity of what happened? Should the punishment be as severe as being kicked off the team or a lesser punishment of running steps, wearing a clown suit, etc.

If he were innocent, why would he need to "do these things" to be considered for reinstatement?

Leb takes his reasoning to extreme, but he is right that Butch's credibility is on the line here. Think about it for one second. In this current school year we've had Johnson, Williams, Jones(even though he's left the team media makes certain to point out he was a UT player), and an unnamed player(from that Tennesseean article) accused of rape. Four players accused of sexual assault in one school year. Now, I have no idea if any are guilty, but the accusations alone give this program a pretty serious black eye. Now Butch is considering letting a player previously dismissed over assaulting a young woman back on the team? If it works out, great, it's a feel good story of how a second chance turned a young man's life around. If it doesn't work out, then Butch is the guy that apparently condones violence toward women(not a view I believe, but a view I definitely see national media and opposing coaches exploiting for sensationalism). The media would rip UT to shreds if Paulk were to have another incident with any young lady.

Again, I'm not arguing against second chances, but I don't think this is a decision easily made. There are lots of factors that have to be weighed in making the decision. I really don't envy Butch on this one.

Perhaps you don't have the same facts regarding the severity and circumstances of the event that our "lying scumbag" headcoach has? Just speculating like you.

Assaulting someone can be anything from causing death to a slap in the face, a push, spitting on them or even verbal abuse. I guess you believe the death penalty or getting kicked off the team is appropriate for any of these actions. Maybe. The staff has to look at it, decide how to handle it, how it will affect the rest of the team, the PR impact, etc. If he needs to go, fine, but another punishment can be considered by one who has the real facts.

I didn't dismiss Paulk. Butch did. Him being "innocent" at that point told me, negative.

Yeah, Butch can allow him back after some time if he so chooses. That doesn't make the kid any less guilty.

A lot helluva lot to risk on a 3star utility back coming off a serious knee injury, don't you think? If Butch is as dishonest and corrupt as Leb makes him out to be, why the hell would he possibly risk his reputation, credibility and even his job on a player of Paulk's caliber?

Don't blur the lines here. Couldn't one argue that while he did dismiss him initially, that his actions weren't severe enough for him to not consider reinstatement upon certain conditions being met by Paulk. He clearly cut ties with his highest profile player with 2 critical games left in the season last year when the information he evidently received pointed to the severity of what happened in that case.....and Paulk wasn't/isn't in AJ's stratosphere when it comes to his importance to the program.

Fact is, Paulk is a 3star utility back coming off a serious knee injury. He'll be 4th string at best this year.....why would Jones risk his credibility on a player who would likely not be a blip on anybody's radar in 2015?

Point is, neither of us knows. The difference in where we stand on this issue is based on our opinion of Jones. You believe he's shown himself to be dishonest and immoral to some degree. I on the hand do not because I'm not on the inside with access to the actual knowledge/facts that you clearly think you have.

Maybe Paulk's true talent is much higher than the three stars awarded to him. Maybe he is the best RB in The SEC. Maybe CBJ has no intention is bringing him back. Maybe, maybe, maybe. I am not going to get work up about this until something happens. I agree that unless CNJ has some information not available to the public, I doubt he is reinstated. I wonder how the players feel about the situation. I wonder ho the girl feels about it. Too many unknows for those of us who are on the outside looking in to even think bout what should happen.

Paulk was dismissed. AJ was suspended. Come on now, don't blur the lines.

LOL

Your point is in large point my point. I'm not willing to equate Butch with Jimbo Fisher or even worse when I/we have no idea what all the facts are.....but Leb is.

Just trying to use a little logic and ask a relevant question....Jones didn't hesitate to cut ties with the face of his program (AJ) when he evidently got some pretty serious, even damning facts/information about his case......but he's gonna go to the mat for Paulk, a kid who no one would likely notice was on the team next year outside of special teams....maybe?? Doesn't make much sense to me as we all engage in speculation.

Jimbo is worse. I'll agree with that.
