i am always excited about ut football.. ask anyone that knows me. my point is i feel like butch is going to extremes to try and get interest from fans. when he knows the real way to do it is on the field with wins.
Laying 60 is a bad bet any time. You're the one that said it. He just called you on it.
I'm going to say Oregon 62 to TN's 24 points. Oregon is very capable of putting that many points on us come game time. What makes you think any different? We have no defense & this coaching staff will try to find something to hold those greyhounds from running all over us. I don't see, at this time, UT stopping their high end offense & scoring machine they have in place. We couldn't even stop Vandy this past year or Troy.
Dooley was the coach :hi:
Copy-paste special. Flame away.
Defensive coordinator John Jancek had just started talking about his defensive philosophy when he was interrupted by applause Thursday night at Neyland Stadium.
He had uttered the magic numbers: 4-3.
Tennessee's failed experiment with the 3-4 defense (that is, three down linemen and four linebackers) produced one of the worst defenses in the country in 2012.
Jancek and head coach Butch Jones are returning the Vols to the 4-3.
Perhaps emboldened by the crowd's enthusiasm, Jancek ratcheted up the intensity and the volume.
"We're going to get back to getting after people," Jancek said. "You're going to be proud of the product you come to watch every Saturday."
When Jancek sat down, Jones deadpanned, "He must have had a Five-Hour Energy."
But even Jones, an offensive coach by trade, won big applause from crowds by pitching an improved defense.
"The formula never changes in winning. We will play great defense at Tennessee," he said.
Jones, who is known for his many motivational phrases and techniques, unveiled two new ones to the UT faithful Thursday.
He wants his team and the fans in the stands to celebrate third-down stops with a fist in the air. The fist-up defense, he calls it.
"We want all the fans in Neyland Stadium to raise their fists," he said.
Another one? The 6-3 mentality. Each play lasts roughly four to six seconds, Jones said. He tells his players that in six seconds, he wants three great efforts to make a play.
And when the quarter ends? Expect to see the Vols sprint to the other side of the field.
"Because we're a blue-collar football team and we're telling our opponent we're both physically and mentally strong," Jones said.
Not a fan of gimmicks. It's sad we've got to this pt but is what it is. This isn't like the gator chump that actually cause noise above the yelling. Even the Seminole chop has something to go along with it that pumps up the stadium and players. Also both actually have significance to thier mascots. Putting up your fist is no different than Vandys anchor down, and everyone on here makes fun of Franklin for his crap. This isn't even as cool as the longhorn sign which doesn't do anything for pumping up the play on the field. Now CBJ and crew think they are going to get 100000 people in Neyland to lift thier fists up??? The international signal for black power. Yeah not thought out very well. Hate what i said or not it is what it is.
I love how CBJ just comes in and says the opposite of what Dooley did and people think he's gonna be the next Neyland. He is all sales guy up to this pt. and after seeing his first class after being on campus for 2months he hasn't proven he's a great one yet. Hopefully he can show he's a better ops guy come OW game.
Everyone on here was excited about moving to the 3-4 last yr. It didn't work and now everyone thinks CBJ is the smartest man alive cause he says we need to move back to 4-3. People act like Dooley did the move for no reason or with malice, didn't know it was going to be difficult transition, or as if the 3-4 isn't a successful scheme once the growing pains are out of the way.
Not saying to not hope for the best but some of y'all are setting yourselves up for the potential of a huge let down. Then y'all turn and in 3 yrs we got a new coach. Instead of taking it day by day and rooting for Vols through the good and bad times.

oskie volum summed up my point. good post man. go vols!! i said long ago we got a 15 year ride to get back we will find out next season if we going up or under the hill. people need to tell jones to put up or shut up. let him know we have seen all of this stuff before and been extremely disappointed and embarrassed by the previous outcomes.
Good post, thanks. I have to wait & see what happens for at least 2 years of bringing in better recruits & teaching them new ways of playing football. We win some games of course this coming year but not what some on here are thinking. It's going to be a tough road to learn how to win in the SEC & out West when we play Oregon.

my 15 yr time table is based on the last time we had 3 losing seasons in a row. 1909,1910,1911 at that time vanderbilt was dominating us and we could not beat them. 15 years later. neyland came on and built a dynasty. they history repeats itself. bama got back to back titles again. they did it in the 20's right before we become a power house. so it looks as if history will repeat. though it could very and we could be back alittle sooner than 15 yrs. 5 at the least. i expect a national title every year. but am ok with one every 5 years.
Interesting how people take a post showong only stats with no opinion attached to it.
The point was that cincy's d was much better than Tennessee's and that was with cincy level players.
So, yes, Tennessee's d will be improved.
Carry on
