I think at Tennessee right now he needs to worry about recruiting, his football team. And how in the world he is going to compete in this league. Not what the fans are doing. I guess the fans are to blame? If we all just got together the last few years and just raised our hands things would be better.
So because he is engaging fans and trying to get support for the team, it means he isn't worrying about recruiting or the team? (You do understand program support lends itself as an asset to recruiting, right?)
And where in the world is anybody saying anything about fans being to blame?
I guess it just feels good to some people to gripe and whine. My bad. Carry on.
I know right? The amount of time it takes to develop a plan like raising a fist up in the air is staggering. I don't see how they could concentrate on other important things. And vollygirl I'm not trying to be mean or hateful to you at all. I like your enthusiasm. Always like reading your posts. I just think the timing of this is weird. This is something he had to be focused on during recruiting. Could you see any good coach announcing something for fans to do right after NSD. No way they are too focused on recruiting to even have time for this.

And my issue is not against just CBJ. I don't care who Tennessee has as a coach. Tennessee has too much tradition. There is already so much we do during the game at key moments in the game. That's our tradition! I don't think any coach should come in before he has coached game 1 and change anything gameday with fans. Tennessee is down. However this is not a program without tradition.
We will be outmatched by both depth and talent by the majority of the teams that we encounter next season. We will need more than brawn to win. "Gimmicks" (as some of you refer to them) such as fist raising and running to other end of the field after each quarter, is more than just doing something new and cute. It's creating a culture. It's unifying. It is a small part of the discipline and mental conditioning that he will be feeding these young athletes every day for the rest of their college careers. He is the fan's coach as much as he is the team's coach. I believe that CBJ understands that the fans can have a part in either the build up or break down of the emotional stability of our team. Butch is the new culture of Tennessee. Of course, we hold on to our traditions but he begins a new era and with his era there should be a shift in thinking. If he truly believes that he can win and if he truly believes that his philosophy will contribute to those wins....then as a fan...not only of Tennessee but of our coach...I will scratch my butt and hop on one foot (after 3rd down conversions) if he suggests it for the strength of this program! Go Vols!
