Josh Dobbs about to have the Opportunity of his NFL Career

Uh, have you every in your life seen such a rapid review of a play? Especially such a consequential one as that which essentially determines a division winner? It seemed to me a "disingenuous" review to me. They "confirmed" that play in seconds. His hand was controlling the ball as it moved forward, despite the strike on his forearm by the rusher......therefore, it has to be an incomplete forward pass. The fact that the ball flew in its intended direction and fell upfield displays that the qb had control thru most of the transition time. If its even close, it almost always goes to the qb it seems to me, but this was not that terribly close to me in my eye.
It was obvious that it was a fumble, that's why the review was so quick.

I am not sure you were watching this game

It certainly wasn't a successful forward pass. However, if the ball went backwards or straight up, you should make the call for the defense. But since it went forward, that should been an incomplete pass. Dobbs did not get that call, but I'm fairly comfortable stating that any of the top quarterbacks would get that call. Particularly upon review.

It was worthy of a longer review. It wasn’t a spiral - but shuttle passes aren’t either and count as forward passes. Also those little flips to the guy in motion immediately after the ball is snapped to a QB in the shotgun count as passes. Sometimes the QB doesn’t even catch those center snaps - he just taps the football to the player in motion.

I honestly thought it was a forward pass from that clip I glanced but I haven’t looked at it more than once admittedly lol

It wasn’t close to a forward pass it just rolled off your fingers as your arm came forward and went 7 yards.

Other than that, definitely not a forward pass.

ONE THING. Was the arm going forward? That's the gold standard in such calls. Very Subjective. Period. (and I bet on Jack)

After looking at a frame by frame of it… seems arm wasn’t going forward. I hate that for Josh as I do want him to get some more starts with a team.

Yes. Always in the past it was : Was the arm going forward? Did the ball go forward? If so, did the qb cause the ball to go forward or the defender? In Josh's case, yes, yes, and qb caused ball to move forward not defender. So if we go by past precedent it should have been called a forward pass IMO

In live action, it looked like it had to be a forward pass, but on replay it was pretty obvious that he started losing control of the ball just before his arm came forward. I hate it for Dobbs, but it was an easy call to confirm in replay.

I think Dobbs proved himself to be a very reliable backup QB. Titans weren’t great….. the fumble was a missed pickup by Dobbs but disguised well by Jacksonville.

Unfortunately the Titans as constructed, window has closed. Time to trade everyone and start over. Dobbs earned a spot on the rebuild roster.

I agree with the call but it’s hard to imagine Mahomes or Brady or even someone like Derek Carr not getting the benefit of the doubt on that play. It’s also difficult to picture such a short review of a monumental play in a non Titans Jags game.
Derek Carr? He's about to be looking for a job.

Fumble or not, in my opinion Dobbs and the Titans defense were the only reason the Titans were in that game. Henry getting stuffed to often and stupid holding penalties killing break out plays. Lawrence played like crap….

Dobbs played ok. The Jags defense was playing incredible last night and controlled the game. Dobbs definitely needs more opportunities to start. Maybe the Jets can pick him up. He’d be a lot better than the other QB’s there.

Exactly. We’ve seen several plays like that play out with the call being reversed as an incomplete pass. Tough break for Dobbs, but he still play great considering he’s only been with the titans 2.5 weeks

It was a pass. Dobbs arm was moving forward when defender hit his bicep. That force caused the ball to be released from his hand. The ball propelled forward solely from the motion of Dobbs forward moving arm. The defender did not hit the ball to propel it forward. It could only be a forward pass and nothing else as the forward arm motion was the sole cause of the significant forward travel of the ball.

That's what I saw. It's not at all evident the ball was loose before the hand was moving forward. The strong forward motion of the ball after it came out indicates his hand was already moving the ball forward when it was dislodged.
This is where I don’t agree with what the commentators were saying about always letting the play go and then straightening it out on replay. To me, what if the official thought it was an incomplete pass but he’s been taught not to call it? The replay didn’t look very conclusive either way so whatever was called on the field would have stood. In essence, you’re giving the defense an advantage by always letting the play happen before making a decision.
