Josh Smith

And North catches them all. No. He looked like he was trying to catch a 5 ft marshmallow Hahaha. Would have been a TD.

I'd love to have a Marcus Nash or even a Gerald Jones this season. Not world beaters, but better than what we got.

I thought Dobbs was suppose to be some kind of fricken genious????? So, he fights to stay in bounds as time is running down in the first half. Might be a classroom wiz but his football IQ is below average.
Nice, in defense of JS you bash Dobbs. If I'm thinking of the correct play you are talking about, he was trying for the 1st down. There are enough reasons this game was lost and it isn't on any one player's shoulders, hands, IQ. Most of the kids being depended on as playmakers are freshmen, sophmores, and walk-ons. The senior's play on the other hand is inexcusable IMO. (Except Palardy)

I can't believe some of you are prepared to write off his entire career. Yes, he hasn't played particularly well this season. He has dropped a lot of passes. But he has three years left in his career. Once he gets more comfortable with the offense and learns to concentrate in pressure situations, he will be fine.

Catching a football isn't rocket science and Smith is a smart kid. He will be fine in the long run.

Let him go be a star at Carson Newman, he is not an SEC prospect or player. Go where you can make a difference.

I remember reading an article some months past and the gist of it was that Josh Smith didn't have any offers or relevance until he was seen in an UT Camp and no one could keep up/cover him, so he was given an offer on the spot. From what I've seen so far this year that is true, he gets open a lot compared to some of our other WR, but I'd speculate to say the reason he didn't have any offers of significance was because everyone managed to see that he had terrible hands.

What happened to carter?! I don't think he ever drop a pass but yet he's not out there at WR.? I know he filled in for young at punt return but that it.

Does he actually get to go to school without having to pay

I should have gotten a scholarship. But in all seriousness, not only does he drop balls, but they all seem to be on 3rd down, resulting in drive killers. If he makes that catch last night suddenly it's a new ballgame. Momentum and emotion are huge in college football.

Combine the two and you'd have a serviceable receiver. Smith seems to have great ability to get open but drops a few that he shouldn't. Carter has trouble getting open but catches everything thrown his way.

Coach Z must be getting close to having to make a decision on Josh. He's been more than patient with him this season... but at this point, he probably just needs to go with Croom, Johnson and possibly Young instead.

Totally disagree with the Josh Smith bashing. It's stupid and ... well ... just very stupid.

He's a freshman, you cannot say he won't improve.
For a freshman to be able to get open against SEC defenders is huge, more than half the battle. No, he's not North, but he can and does run good routes and GET OPEN.

Who does bUTch replace Smith with that gets open like he does? So, maybe they have 'better' hands but as the QB checks down his receivers, if they're not open, so what? Force a pass for an interception? Throw out of bounds for a wasted play? Maybe someone else will get better at running open routes. But who? Tell me. Seems he's where he is on the depth chart for a reason.

I do agree his missed catches kill us and kill momentum. So sit him for the rest of this and next season. Move (who?) up the depth chart and only get Josh in the games for a few series where missed catches aren't the end of the world. By the time he's a junior, with the thousands of reps with throwing machines and etc. he'll have; if his 'hands' haven't improved, oh well. BUT IF they have, having a receiver who is constantly open against SEC defenders who can catch the ball ain't nothin' to spit at, and we'll have him for another two years. There's a good chance Josh Smith can make a difference as a Volunteer.

You're attitude pulls vacuum.

It's pathetic how some of you people are on here bashing an 18 year old kid. At the end of the day it's just a game.

The lack of character displayed by many of the posters on here is far more devastating than a dropped pass.

Words of Wisdom. Lay off the kid. Next up, Auburn.

Life is tough in the real world. He better get used to it.

I've been frustrated by all his drops, but I feel for the kid. If we had the kind of depth we need to be competitve, he wouldn't have seen the field this year and would be poised to make an impact as a RS sophomore or so.

It really is unfair to a lot of our young guys how much they've been thrown to the fire, but life isn't fair. They just need to keep ther heads up and keep grinding.

I'm pretty sure that most people would agree that watching college football is a hobby and a way to break away from the stresses of life in the real world.

The kid goes to practice, sweats and bleeds for our enjoyment as fans and it is truly pathetic that much of this criticism is likely coming from people that do nothing more than watch the game from their living room and drink beer.

So, it's OK to make generalizations about people you don't know but it's not OK to criticize players on our football team that aren't getting the job done? I see the logic in that...

Its tougher with every idiot in the world criticizing you. Josh Smith is a better version of Zach Rogers. I like the kid because he can get open. Take him to the jugs!

When you play a game in front of large crowds on national TV you're supposed to be able to perform the basic functions of your job well. He seems unable to do that. All I am saying.

Having the inability to do this is going to get you criticized. Hopefully he gets better. I would rather not see him again until the improvement occurs.
