Jr. Leaves DEI!

He laid out his preferences as signing with a top tier (Chevy) team (HMS, RCR, JGR), a second tier team (everyone else), or racing for himself at JR Motorsports.

I don't think he really laid out anything other than he would prefer to be in a Chevy and his sister said that putting together their own Cup team was a possibility but more of a last resort. There were a lot of other scenarios out there, but they were mainly being posited by the media asking leading questions.

When are people going to learn with the entertainment media... You never do interviews. It's all about the press release.

Possible Plans:
1) sign with a top tier Nextel Cup team [one that wins and runs for the championship
2) sign with a second tier team
3) and the last choice, would be to run Nextel Cup with Dale Jr's own team, JR Motorsports, but no plans for that to happen at this points

Jr. ain't gonna be hurting for money.

Since his goal is to win races and championships now, he won't be going to Toyota to accomplish that in the near future.
So is Saban's and A-Rod's and Manning's etc etc etc!

Well no, Roush isn't, I thought we were still talking about Toyota, who may get their crap together eventually, but I can't see it happening in 2, 3, or 4 years, the timespan Jr. wants to compete.

Just read somewhere that there is a rumor going around that Kyle Busch will be a free agent after 2007 as well, so perhaps we shouldn't close the door on Jr. to HMS just yet.

Oh you are right about Toyota! But A Rod wanted a title with the Rangers and Saban with the Dolphins. (uh, ok) Everybody will enter the bidding. Jr will decide the rest.

I think Jr would lose a lot of fans if he went with Toyota. Plus, it would be one more slap in the face to American automakers.

I'm sure Toyota would offer him any amount of money he wanted. It would be a great hire for the Toys but I don't see it happening. Not sure on Busch's contract, HMS said the other day thier stable is locked up long term.

I just got in, what happened at the press conference?

Jr is leavin DEI....no word on where hes gonna race....1st choice is to join a top team, last choice is to bring Jr Motorsports to Nextel Cup level...he doesnt want Jr Motorsports gettin much bigger; however, he wants to join a team that will let him run some Busch races for Jr Motorsports....couldnt say if Tony Jr is comin with him, said thats up to Tony....Truex is not part of his decision, so hes stuck at TEI

I was thinking Junior would end up at RCR and there was a slight chance he would end up in JGR, but what about Truex, is he leaving too?

Jr will be in a Budweiser Chevy next year, theres no amount of money that would make him drive a Toyota....are any Toyota drivers even in the top 35?? You think Dale Jarrett makes 400 races in a row and then suddenly cant make a race......hes driving a TOYOTA...they are obviously way behind the competition and theres no way Jr wants apart of that....he may not be in the 8....RCR or Gibbs I say

I think driving the #33 Bud Chevy for RCR next season is the most likely scenario. I read a quote from J.D. Gibbs for Gibbs Racing and he said they were in no hurry for a 4th team and I know Richard wouldn't think twice about giving Junior a ride. I'm excited about next season.
