Jr. Leaves DEI!

so today i heard a few people talk about this from Teresa's point of view. some points they made:

1. it's no secret that Dale was a great race car driver. however, he wasn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. now before i get beat up for calling him dumb, i recall an interview where he said he dropped out of school in like 8th grade and he knew cars, factory work, and working on his farm. Teresa played a huge part in setting up DEI and is owed as much credit to getting DEI to where it is today.

2. Junior and Kelley are her step-children. they are from Dale's second wife (?) if i remember right. neither one of them will admit to having a great relationship with Teresa, especially Kelley. i don't think it was as much her idea to have Junior drive for DEI as it was his fathers. both children will admit to not having the greatest relationship with her.

3. so, why should she be forced to back down from a company she had a large part in forming, especially to her step children? it seems to me like she called Junior and Kelley's bluff about leaving if they didn't get 51%.

i won't admit to having all my facts straigght, but this is what i picked up, and perhaps some of you Senior fans can fill any details i missed or correct me on what i got wrong. i think this could be very interesting to look back on 5-10 years from now to see how it all shakes out.

That's sort of my take as well. She's getting painted as the villain here, but she's the one that was essentially a co-founder of the company. What's she supposed to do, give it away?

I really can see this from both sides.

You've pretty much got it all right, doozer.

Sr. did drop out of school in the 8th or 9th grade, I don't remember which, to focus on racing. That's all he wanted to do, work on and race cars. That's also what ruined his first two marriages (the first produced Kerry, the second produced Kelly and Jr.).

Teresa is the one who parlayed the money that Dale made in racing into the mass merchandising of everything with a 3 or Dale's name on it. She was just in charge of/ran the marketing side of things for Sr. She didn't have much at all to do with DEI the race team.

I really believe that Jr. wanted to drive for DEI throughout his entire career. He also wanted the company to be ran by someone that had a clue as to how to run a race team. I'm not saying Kelly or Jr. would be that person to run it, but they could bring someone in to run it, much like Sr. did with Ty Norris.

i've been down the road of shaky relationships with step parents. it's not easy. and to throw the family business into the middle of it only makes it worse.

He currently has a team in the Busch series under JR Motorsports. So that could be the name in the Nextel Cup.

that is the last thing they want to happen...Jr Motorsports only has 70 employees and he doesnt want many more..but to start a cup team, they would have to have alot more...

as far as Teresa goes, I agree she is being portrayed as they villain, but so what! she never had anything to do with racing, never came to the track or even hardly communicated with her drivers...look at all the great owners (Hendrick, Rousch, etc.) they are always at the track and are the ones to congratulate their driver on a good race...all she had to do was give Jr the power to make decisions for the company, it wasnt like she was giving up ownership...she could have just sat back and continued to make her millions; instead, she will struggling to keep DEI on the map

I don't usually look to Boston as a major source of breaking NASCAR news, so take it as you will...

Dale Jr. to RCR? done deal? FOX25(Boston's FOX affiliate) is reporting.......Dale Earnhardt Jr. will soon be racing under the same legendary #3 Chevy that his dad used to race in. A source with direct knowledge of negotiations tells FOX25 that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has finalized a deal with Richard Childress Racing Thursday night and an official announcement will be coming soon. At a press conference today to announce that he was leaving the company his late dad built, Dale Jr. said he would have mixed emotions about driving his dad's #3 Chevy, but again, FOX25 has learned that this is a done deal.(FOX25)(5-10-2007)

She also probably never had any designs on being involved with running the day to day operations of a race team until it all was thrown into her lap by her husband's death.

That sounds an awful lot like the JR Motorsports + Hendrick engines and chassis rumor...

exactly, so she should have backed off and eventually let Jr run the company the way his father would have, focus on winning races and championships

Are you playing Devil's advocate? The name of the company is DEI!!! What would DEI be without DE Jr?

She would rather own 100% of DEI without Junior than 49% of DEI with Junior.

Dumbest business decision I've ever seen.
