‘23 JUCO OT Larry Johnson III ( Tennessee commit)

Calm down and get off the homer high horse

1) I trust our staff
2) I trust the staff at Alabama and Georgia
3) it’s proven that the highest overall rated classes do better
4) we are closing the gap
5) but they are still getting more five stars and high for stars and we are
6) I think we’ll get there

People argue for each individual 3 star, I do too. But you can’t ignore that the more 4 and 5 stars you have the better chance you have at hitting
PS- What is actually proven is that UGA, Bama, and OSU get lots of talent and are perennial NC contenders... and the rankings aren't reliably predictive for anyone else.

Must’ve missed it. Have they acknowledged the TE or kicker? Maybe they announce them all at once after the portal ends.

Tbh I don’t know if they typically acknowledge transfers on the Twitter machine. I do know they do recruit commits.

Is it?

According to 247's talent composite, OSU has the 3rd most talented roster. Michigan has the 13th most talented roster.

UT has the 19th most talented roster according to 247. Bama is #1. LSU is #8. UF is # 14. USCe is #21. Clemson btw is #5.

TCU btw is #32. OU is 9. Texas is 6.

Others of "note". Nebraska is 24th. Stanford is 23rd. Auburn is 18th. Miami is 12th.

And your 4th most talented team in the country according to the authoritative ranking of 247's composite scores is.... Texas A&M.
You conveniently left off GA. Now go back and do GA this hear and last. AL in 2020, LSU in 2019 and Clemson in 2018

Didn't leave off UGA. I could have edited that post but included them in the next one.

Here it is:

Just read we offered the OT out of RI. Johnson has 4 years to play 3 so we can afford a year for him to sit then lock down the RT spot going forward.
Johnson is basically an experienced HS student. He only went to JUCO for one semester out of HS. He’ll likely be a year or so away

So the recruiting services are only reliable and effective for the best teams? 😂😂😂😂😂. Your ridiculous mental gymnastics when it comes to blue chip players is beyond laughable. You just can’t see the forrest for the trees.

Well, no. The recruiting sites have just wised up enough to recognize that certain programs are very good at finding talent. If Saban prioritizes a player then their best move is to slap 4 or 5 stars on him. You insist on putting the cart before the horse. Saban, Smart, and Day aren't waiting for your heroes to rate players before they recruit them.

Not that the actual facts persuade you very much on this issue... but yeah. Outside of 3 or 4 programs, the recruiting sites don't predict the winners very well. UT was the 2nd best team in the SEC this year. According to 247, they had the 7th most talent. Texas A&M was close to the bottom if not at the bottom. They were ranked 3rd by 247.

Nationally, Michigan DESTROYED OSU... with their 13th ranked class compared to the Buckeye's 3rd ranked class. USCw supposedly has the 11th most talented roster and was beaten by Utah with the #33 roster.

No "mental gymnastics". Just the facts of what happens outside of that handful of teams.

Well let’s all keep hoping every 3 star will over-perform for us (I will too)
Doesn't have to be "every". The staff just has to be above average in finding 3* that should have 4/5*. Clemson rose to compete for the NC by doing just that. Dabo did well finding a fairly significant number of those really good 3* guys. I believe the average ranking of their first NC team was 11th.

Come on man, you know what I meant. You don’t have to educate me like I’m your kid. I don’t literally mean “every”

4 years to play 3 and we need tackles. Would be ideal if he can contribute next year, but I don't think it's an absolute must. Still relatively young, and usually development is required for OT.

We'll see.

Agree. Mincey and Crawford are the starters in 23. Davis is the backup at one spot, maybe both. Grant or Perry may develop as well.

Correlation is important until it isn't. We get it.

Really hope we land him

Day 1 starter
If so, we're gonna have a long year and we'd better have a full qb room. Guy will be depth and I'd almost bet he ends up at guard when it's all said and done. Guy needs time to acclimate and get ready for this league. I'm praying a "day 1 starter" will come from the portal.

Wait a minute, so what you are saying that it is mental gymnastics? I have a tendency to believe that the recruiting agencies cannot evaluate all the players and if the top 5 teams go after a player it elevates his Star Rating. That makes perfectly good sense. They don't find them all and there are a 1,000s of 3* and 2* players that should be 4* and sometimes 5* that never make the board because they are never evaluated. A small % of OL players rarely grade out over a 3* but when they do it is a matter of who is recruiting them vs a thorough evaluation.
