There's not much film on Fant, so it's hard for me to judge. I do however really like Payton's film. I guess it will all come down to who can get the grades.
I'm friends with one of LaVergne's coaches. He brags on Fant all the time. If not for the injuries (which are a concern) he believes Fant would have been a Top 100 blue chip caliber prospect.
When he was healthy, didn't he post a really good SPARQ score back in the summer?
I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised.
If I remember correctly, he elected for surgery this year to clean up some things and UT's doctors performed the operation? It seems like his injuries were minor and he could have played through it, but the surgery was inevitable and he wanted to get it done to get ready for enrollment and Fall practice. If that is the case, then I would feel better about his knee and his future.
If he's against it it may be hard to sell it to him, but Tennessee's in-state tuition is reasonable especially with the lottery scholarship. Also, if he can swing it for one or two semesters he will be put on scholarship soon after. I'd like to add him. I do not know how Palmer's commitment affects Payton.
He would go on scholarship as soon as the fall semester started
