'19 JUCO WR Javonta Payton (Tennessee commit)

You can't take the chance on posting the article? Such an oddball
If you knew why then you wouldn't take a chance either. I posted the reason why in the Chase Johnson thread in the basketball section if you want to know why. Go to that section & that thread & look for my post about this. Thanks!

Does anyone know where we stand with this kid?

I was very impressed with him when he played Jacoby Stevens on national tv. We really need athletes of this caliber. Kid is explosive.

I think as of right now we stand at the top of his lists. He has quite a few offers but other than UT the only other school that he seems seriously interested is MTSU which is a surprise to me a little.

From what I've gathered about him lately both Vandy & Western Kentucky are both going after him hard too. However, no doubt we're at the top right now. Let's hope it stays that way too.

MTSU is the most realistic option at the moment and WKU would be a near 2nd. Still fixing the issues at hand. This info came from Coach Lopez

“that’s what i love to see — to know, even when they’re down, they’re not going to give up and they’re going to keep fighting,” payton said. “i actually know that, if i go there, my quarterback likes to run that ball. I really like that about the quarterback that i’d have. He knows how to run the ball and also throw.”

“we actually haven’t rescheduled yet, but we plan on making it happen,” payton said. “we just haven’t thought of a date yet. I want to see, i think it’s called the vol walk,” he added, referring to tennessee’s traditional pregame walk to neyland stadium. “i really want to see it. I’ve heard there’s so many people (there), so i want to see that.”

tennessee’s coaches, led by wide receivers coach zach azzanni, have continued to stay in frequent contact with payton. He said he talks with azzanni “almost every day.”

“(they say) just make sure i stay on my grades,” payton said. “they’d love to get me up there, and just keep grinding on the field and off the field.”

“i’m still trying to find a school that’s a good fit,” he said. “i don’t want to make my decision too early. I’m just trying to get to see all the schools that i’m interested in and just see which one’s the best place for me.

JaVonta Payton has named his top 5 schools as follows(247 Sports) in no particular order:

Louisville, UT, Kentucky, MTSU, & Memphis.

We need this kid.

I think he's a top 5 player in-state.

Better than Jacoby Stevens. I saw both on ESPNU a few months back and he was way more explosive of an athlete.

Is he better than Harris?

Not sure, but the one game that I watched him play when his team played on one of the ESPN channels, he was absolutely electric. I wanted us to take him immediately after that, but I am guessing that with his grade issues, we are taking a wait-and-see approach.
