'19 JUCO WR Javonta Payton (Tennessee commit)

You've lost your damn mind son. I deferred to your supposed knowledge because you run camps and all but that ball was thrown way high. Wr looking back. Steven running forward right towards it. A gimme poor throw if I ever saw one. Nobody here thinks Stevens is a scrub. He just didn't look like a sure fire 5 star that night. He looked like a stronger faster athlete than most of the players. I was expecting to see an outstanding football player but did not see it that night. We've been here before u came along and will be here long after so don't come up in here thinking you know more than anybody else. You've proven u don't

The kid once again made a difference 2 tds and 2 ints. Who knows how many total yards. His impact on the game was seen. The thing is Payton camped with us too and I've said he's a phenomenal athlete but on a Jacoby level NO. Quicker maybe but that's it. Jacoby has better instincts etc. Btw he's a college S not Lb and had been assured that by LSU. This is the peoblem with this board Gray has no impact on a gm only 4 tkls no receptions and he's all world while Jacoby puts up stats in every facet of the gm and gets down played lollllll hilarious the bias. And to the poster who said I've been proven wrong show me because I've definitely been right 99% of the time on any prospect i discussed on here or VQ.

LV no need to even bother an explanation a guy has 2 tds and 2 ints one in which he took and high pointed over the Wr but he looks like aa 3* how crazy can some comments get on here. .

High school stats are irrelevant. What matters is how the kid looks. And Jacoby looked very UNATHLETIC and SLOW out there.

Gimme Javonta anyday of the week.

FYI I've never been big on Maleik even though he's our commit. I've said I don't think he has the instincts to be elite. He's more athletic than Jacoby which is why I'm less critical. But I've said he doesn't look like a top 100 player.

IMO Theo Jackson is the best DB prospect in the state for 2017. Gray is more athletic but has no insticts. Stevens has instincts but no athleticism.

Jackson is the best blend of athleticism and instincts.

Again Jackson is good very athletic but he's probably 4th best. #1 db in the state per rankings and services is TJ Carter from Stratford. But Gray is also not more athletic than Jocoby on any level. And I wasn't speaking to only you. Ijs Jacoby had a major impact on the game was featured on ESPN highlights during the other game and the next day but ppl are saying he didn't look like a 5* and he also had 4/92/ 1td along with ??? Tkls total yds and he's bashed on here. Like i stated poor hurt little girl because her boyfriend left her for another chick. Smdh was specifically talking to you again.

The Memphis area has too much Ole Miss influence for us to expect to consistently mop up all highly touted recruits out of that area.

But we have to get out in front of the population boom around the Nashville area.

This is something we couldn't depend on in the Fulmer era, as a poster astutely pointed out above.

What Butch has done, wisely, is concentrated on areas like Charlotte, Hampton Roads in VA, and continued to build strong relationships in the mid-state area, because the Dawgs are gonna gain momentum in Atlanta in certain years.

They've got a new coach, a successful coordinator from a great program, and the excitement down there has peaked. I'm not worried about losing Georgia kids like Gibbs and Holloman to them.

Kills me to see such whinging in August about recruiting. When Trey commits we'll be 8th or so, and after we have the great season we're gonna have it's not inconceivable that we'll be top 4 or 5.

When we add 5star Trey, we're not gonna sniff 8th or certainly 4th or 5th on NSD without making some significant changes with other currently committed, lower rated players. Doesn't necessarily mean that it won't be a very good class with some excellent players in it. But if you're gonna talk about class rankings, you need to recognize that. Because other teams have players with a much higher average rating, once they catch up on their quantity and get to 24 players like us, they'll leapfrog us pretty quickly and we'll be fortunate to finish in the Top 20 with our class as currently constituted.

All that being said, Doug Mathews says unequivocally that we'll replace 4-5 lower rates players by NSD.

Stevens has "no athleticism"?? Lol.

"Stevens, who hails from Murfreesboro in Tennessee, soared 11 feet, four inches in a recent standing broad jump. Is that a big deal? Consider the following:

The nation’s No. 1 athlete vaulted farther with that effort than any NFL prospect did at the 2016 combine.

The Oakland High School star wears a size 14 shoe. That’s not exactly ideal aerodynamics to fly high and far.

Was that his personal best? The result of weeks of intensive training that would make even Batman (check out those cleats) sweat? Nah. “That was my first time trying it,” Stevens said. Simply put, he’d never practiced or trained for the standing broad jump before. That’s all raw talent and explosiveness there."

Look D4H, none of us knows what type of college football player they kid is gonna be and you're certainly welcome to your opinion. But to say he has "no athleticism"? Come on man.

You get some of the best pissing contests on Volnation. Grown men arguing about 17-18 year old boys accomplishments on a football field. Try not to get too wet guys.

Winning attracts talent. Simple as that. Didn't say top 5 was likely, said it wasn't inconceivable. Certainly with Smith on board, Harris is now looking like a possibility, and as you say Matthews thinks we recruit over 4 or 5 lower ranked kids.... 8th is not at all out of reach. Defense is where I expect recruits to show immediate interest, because I expect team 120's D to be phenomenal.

I realize I'm backing off my original statement, but I fully expect us to pull in a class ranked higher than in '16, because frankly winning brings 'em in. Ask Clemson.

Where do you think TJ Carter is heading?

I can't understand why 247 doesn't have full profiles up yet for so many 2017 recruits including Payton. I mean there are a bunch of recruits that don't have star rankings or composite scores.

They didn't camp is the main reason. I can't speak for Javonta but no camps is the general reason for an incomplete profile.

If Tee Higgins is a 10, what is Javonta Payton?

I never said Tee Higgins is a 10. That's not the way the recruiting sites do it anyhow. I know. You're basing it on a 1-10 scale like we would use at the dr. If we look at it that way Higgins to me is a 9.5 & Payton is a 8.5 then. Payton is stilll very good. Higgins is great!

I know you never did Tony lol. It was just a question.

Getting Payton should be a priority imo.

Ok! I thought you were saying that I said Tee was a 10. He's mighty close though in my opinion. Yes, we need to go after Payton really hard but we're going to be dropping other 2017 committed recruits in return if that happens.

We will have to do that with just about anymore recruits that commit to us. We need Trey Smith for sure! I think Gibbs is gone to UGA. Holloman I think signs elsewhere too. Smith should be our #1 priority right now. It's probably going to come down to us & Bama for him.

If we can't get Smith then next priority in line should be Cam Akers but lately it doesn't appear like he's coming to Knoxville. Looking more & more like he might be heading to FSU.

If Tennessee misses on Lamont Wade, do you think they can get back in it with TJ Carter even if he commits soon elsewhere? I've heard the staff is high on him but only has room for 1 more CB at this point.
