Julian Phillips Auburn rumors

Since the draft hasn't taken place, it certainly is an opinion....very likely correct, but an opinion nonetheless. Yeah, I know...you hate the kind of people who do this. Me, too, but the baseball team has me feelin' a bit salty right now. Just need to get back to the tournament and forget UT sports I guess. Although the camera guy hit our gallery and a group of Vol fans broke out into singing Rocky Top complete with the "woo". Felt pretty good although it was an open bar and they were pretty stiff by mid afternoon.

You’re right. It’s an opinion. Perhaps a better way to say it would’ve been at a projected 50th pick, most analysts point to him moving up after evaluations, not down. His mediocre season is on the record, but they’ll be reminded of his measurables and potential in person. Hard to ignore. Of course I think he should return. If he plays to his potential without injury he can be a lottery pick. That’s the financial case for staying.

I get that I’ve been negative Nancy lately, but if the dude took the time and just typed in “Andrew Slater” he would see that he posted a tweet saying “the news has moved to Monday”

I never even mentioned JP. Apparently it could be regarding the UGA kid, Oquendo and all the poster had to do was ask, but no he wanted his moment in the spotlight[/QUOTE

Actually I think the Monday news was about Marshall. If you look at the mentions for the Marshall decommitment, someone asked Slater if the Monday news was still on. An Auburn on3 mod responded with a “No, we’re all done here.”

That’s fine, again I was just relaying what Slater said because he is usually reliable.

“Big news”. The decommitment of a 300 pound player was the news. All the auburn media was sh*tting on Slater in the replies bc that’s what he was teasing.

I'm no talent scout, but after seeing Marshall's video, I wasn't terribly impressed. 6" vertical and skills around the basket were pedestrian at best. Big body but nothing special.

A lot of their fans and writers seem to think they’re gonna upgrade over him. That said, almost all of their fans and writers are delusional af, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Auburn beat reporter. I honestly don't know what to expect at this point but the JP stuff continues to be out there

I love Julian Phillips, but he isn’t a “huge” name. He just isn’t. He’s a former 5-star that underperformed this year. If someone considers him a “huge” addition, I question their definition of the word.
Come on, now. If he were transferring from AU and Tennessee were to land him, we'd all consider it a huge get. Let's be fair, here. Most people have stated they'd rather have Phillips stick around than anyone we landed from the portal, and I'd agree. He has familiarity and he's already shown an ability to play on this level. He just lacks consistency and strength. I'd gladly take him back.

If, by some chance, Phillips decides NOT to enter the draft, is it far-fetched to think he transfers? We'd have to push someone out to keep him, based on the numbers. Not saying this is what is happening. I have no info whatsoever. But if JP doesn't go pro, does Barnes push someone else out to make room to keep him?

You push a five star out the door do you think you get another one? That's a fine line.

I’ve thought all along Phillips would most likely transfer or maybe jump in the draft. That said, I find you guys giving up on him after one season to be utterly foolish considering Phillips talent. I hope he stays, gets stronger, and works hard on the weakest parts of his game.

Maybe, but we know keeping JP means pushing someone else out. My thought is he's going pro, but it puts Barnes in a bind if he chooses not to.

That’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m not saying he isn’t a good player. I’m saying if social media and basketball writers are hyping up some mystery, massive portal player that is about to announce he is transferring, even though Julian is a great prospect, do you really think he is worthy of being considered under the status of “huge name entering the portal, everyone stand by?”

Yohan Traore is another former 5-star prospect that got little fanfare across social media when he entered the portal. When I think of huge portal entries, it’s proven college players with major track records of production at the college level. I just don’t think Phillips is in that category right now.
