Julian Phillips Auburn rumors

This sounds much more reasonable. I could see Barnes hiring JJJ to work in some capacity on the staff next season before forcing him out if his body won’t allow him to play.
I'd imagine that at 22-23 years old, JJJ has professional basketball aspirations that would supercede any type of coaching aspirations at his age. He has ability that should cash in around the 6-figure range, overseas. If he is told that it is in the team's best interest that he moves on, I believe he's mature enough to understand that, and will try to make money while his body still allows it. If for some reason, his condition is chronic, or he has no desire to move around the world for basketball, then I can absolutely see him staying involved through coaching.

I have a feeling he’s going to be convinced by his entourage that he’s better than he really is and he’s gone. He’s not going first round. He just won’t. He might have people give persuasive arguments on how he’s definitely first round because they want to cash in, but ultimately I think he’ll declare and regret it on draft night when he goes 40-50.
I would be surprised if he got drafted. No reason whatsoever to go pro.

If he stays in the draft, he will be drafted. That’s not an opinion.
You have more confidence in that than I do…projected as one of the last 10 picks currently, that’s hardly lock status. You get to that area and teams start drafting foreign players and stashing them instead, not saying it won’t happen but I would hardly guarantee it.

I think the chance of him moving up from 50th is higher than the chance of him going down. His measurables are going to be hard to ignore, and his injury history isn’t scary. Hopefully we won’t have this question answered this year.

That’s likely fair and combine should answer that…he can easily move himself up into the early 2nd which would translate to a likely lock to be drafted. Or he can keep himself in the range he is now which will obviously be a bit uncertain as to being drafted or not.

Come back for a year and get that 3P% up to the mid 30’s and he’s a first rounder. Everything else is there but it’s nigh on impossible to be a wing in the NBA and not be a reliable deep threat

I'm not even sure the outside shot is his biggest issue. He's a good FT shooter and his form on his shot isn't terrible. It just didn't drop for him, which seems like a confidence issue. His biggest problem is how weak he is with the ball, his sloppy handle, and inability to finish in traffic due to his lack of strength. The NBA will attempt to fix all of those problems, but his draft stock will suffer for it ahead of that. Another year in college would allow him to add 20 lbs of muscle and show he can get to the paint and finish. The shot is there, I think. He just needs to believe in it more and see the ball go thru the hoop for his confidence to shoot up. Getting some tough 2s to fall would help there. People would probably never believe he only made 79 shots in 32 games (less than 2.5 makes per game).

I never said he wouldn’t be allowed to be on staff or anything like that, just that if the knee is an issue that a discussion about him taking up a scholarship would be had. I don’t think many folks will look at COVID year as running someone off, it’s much different than a underclass men with eligibility left imo.
I wasn’t inferring anything about your position concerning JJJ on staff?

Unless JJJ knows of something structurally wrong in his knee requiring additional surgery, how can he or the staff really know how the knee will feel in 6-8 months? Scholarship decisions are appearing to be made right now for the upcoming season and the health of JJJ & ZZZ’s knees won’t truly be known for quite some time it would appear?

Maybe I’m confused, but I understood JJJ is receiving significant NIL dollars playing at UT? If it’s true Phillips was receiving $700K then surely JJJ got that much if not more? Doesn’t seem like playing in Europe pays more? Also, I think it’s highly, highly, highly unlikely we get a better player from the portal than a healthy JJJ. As always, JMO

When Phillips declares, he’ll clarify whether the door open or not. At a projected 50th pick, he should come back, but lots of people are in his ear saying he could be first round this draft. If he thinks an agent can move him up, he may be gone gone. That’s our competition.

100%. He’s leaning towards the draft b/c of “experts” telling him he will be drafted by pick #35. Idk the differences in $$ but he should return. He hasn’t told my son this but I think he prefers the NBA style with less defense etc.

Interesting since his defense was his only elite skill this year?

I’m just guessing, but my impression is that the majority of the existing players were getting minimal amounts, which was surrounding some skepticism about how a guy like Phillips might be welcomed with the amount of money he was getting.

But my post was mostly pitting the options of joining the coaching staff and playing overseas against each other. Returning to the team was off the table seemed to be an understood parameter in that hypothetical.

Not hard to believe at all with the 2.5 makes per game. He falls down so many times when bumped i would hold my breath just so i didnt contribute to knocking him down. Dude definitely needs to get stronger with the ball and learn to finish with contact more consistently.

Julian Phillips reminded me of JJJ's freshman year. They were both pretty similar coming out of high school in rankings, strengths, and weaknesses, and both of them struggled. JJJ never really developed into what people thought that he would be. Hopefully, Julian puts it together and reaches his full potential.

We have been saying this every offseason since he came to UT. It has never happened. I doubt it ever does. JJJ is simply a high volume jump shooter and low volume maker of jump shots.

The big news moved to Monday. “Edit is ready”
Naw. It will still be funny Monday. They hyped big news for Friday and this came down Friday. I know you were all hyped for JP to Auburn to break yesterday as they were claiming, so you could pounce on Barnes, but it didn’t happen yesterday. My Post will be funny no matter what their “big news” is on Monday.
You can’t enjoy anything, can you?

Since the draft hasn't taken place, it certainly is an opinion....very likely correct, but an opinion nonetheless. Yeah, I know...you hate the kind of people who do this. Me, too, but the baseball team has me feelin' a bit salty right now. Just need to get back to the tournament and forget UT sports I guess. Although the camera guy hit our gallery and a group of Vol fans broke out into singing Rocky Top complete with the "woo". Felt pretty good although it was an open bar and they were pretty stiff by mid afternoon.

Phillips will be drafted upon talent and upside I watched draft when all the high school players were drafted it's a crap shoot sometimes they hit sometimes they don't. zSpringer and Keon Johnson still struggling and had lots of upside according to NBA teams

Also NBA doesn't stress defense nearly as much as college coaches they are more freedom and spread out and JP would enjoy that kind of game

I get that I’ve been negative Nancy lately, but if the dude took the time and just typed in “Andrew Slater” he would see that he posted a tweet saying “the news has moved to Monday”

I never even mentioned JP. Apparently it could be regarding the UGA kid, Oquendo and all the poster had to do was ask, but no he wanted his moment in the spotlight
