Julian Phillips Auburn rumors

Well from reading the war room stuff in the other thread, it sounds like it’s still a good possibility he is hitting the portal which would really stink

He might hit the portal, but this account knows nothing. It’s a 500 follower account that pays for his blue check and he is pretending to know things to get clout. It’s sad. A “source close to the family” could literally mean anything.

They are referring to him going to the NBA, not the portal, they’ve explicitly stated numerous times they don’t see him entering the portal.

Oh yeah completely agree, never heard of this account before

JJJ has played several positions at UT. No way we kick a 4 year starter and a player of his caliber to the curb if he wants to return regardless of the rest of the roster.

I never said we were kicking him to the curb, smh

All I said Knecht played the same position and had better legs. Lmao

Well if Julian Phillips does enter the draft he will only be testing the waters and keeping his option to return to college open.

To clarify, you believe CRB would tell JJJ there’s no room for him due to his knee problem if JJJ said he’d like to return for his COVID season? I would find that very surprising if so.
Barnes job (not in one year but you get the point) vs. someone’s feelings

I think that’s a legitimate possibility yes, if they can get in 100% healthy guys who they feel can contribute and JJJ can’t get his knee right then that’s absolutely a discussion that would be had.

No offense Trippie, but BTO has some degree of connection to the staff from which he shares information. You’re a fan (although an extremely anxious one of late) and you only offer opinions like the rest of us. As for my opinion, I don’t see how Barnes builds the the much discussed culture at UT if he were to tell JJJ to hit the road. JMO

That evaluation and discussion have happened. It isn’t contentious either. If JJJ has to rehabilitate off the court, he will leave. I think this decision has already happened one way or another. They were celebrating something with him Wednesday on a conference call. He and Barnes are as tight as they come. This isn’t a case of being pushed out.

This sounds much more reasonable. I could see Barnes hiring JJJ to work in some capacity on the staff next season before forcing him out if his body won’t allow him to play.

When Phillips declares, he’ll clarify whether the door open or not. At a projected 50th pick, he should come back, but lots of people are in his ear saying he could be first round this draft. If he thinks an agent can move him up, he may be gone gone. That’s our competition.

I have a feeling he’s going to be convinced by his entourage that he’s better than he really is and he’s gone. He’s not going first round. He just won’t. He might have people give persuasive arguments on how he’s definitely first round because they want to cash in, but ultimately I think he’ll declare and regret it on draft night when he goes 40-50.

I for one will miss JJJ when he's gone. Fantastic guy to have representing the program.

I never said he wouldn’t be allowed to be on staff or anything like that, just that if the knee is an issue that a discussion about him taking up a scholarship would be had. I don’t think many folks will look at COVID year as running someone off, it’s much different than an underclass men with eligibility left imo.
