Juneteenth

That's usually what happens when moderation or capitulation end. Trump jumped on the concept of fighting the left fringe to gain favor much like Reagan used the moral majority. Sometimes you have to step away from normal duties to go fight a fire. Too bad it took someone like Trump to champion the fight against leftist stupidity.
Pretty sure every candidate the Rs have run has seen this same "champion" label slapped on them. Romney and McCain, bush 2. All were savors of the cause. Until.....Trump.

Trump didnt actually fight the issues. He ranted on Twitter and then turn around and spent worse than Obama for three years until Covid happened and gave him the excuse to sign even more outrageous budgets.

What was fighting the left in the bump stock ban?

Trump talked, he didnt do.

Representative G. K. Butterfield, Democrat of North Carolina, led lawmakers in singing, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song which is often referred to as the Black national anthem.
Representative James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, the No. 3 House Democrat, said he would push for the song to be designated as America’s “National Hymn.” Biden Signs Bill Making Juneteenth a Federal Holiday
Nice, now replace the Star Spangled Banner
Do we have a national hymn? I mean before this? Seems at odds with the no religion bit.

Multigenerational trauma is a real thing.

5 or 6 generations back, my family was displaced because of religious persecution and they still carry that. But it looks like that brand of victimhood is dying with my generation (at least in my Mom's lineage because none of her kids are religious anymore).

Simple. If a holiday is about a day in history because it has significance, then it should be celebrated on that date.
But it's not. At least the day off work.

And as pointed out earlier there is discrepancy on what day Juneternth actually was. So it's not like the 4th where everyone can easily know.

Maybe Trump's tenure was more about what wasn't done to us than what was done to us. A lot of this nonsense went away while Trump was president - probably because the dems were too busy trying to impeach him. I think perhaps you are forgetting that congress legislates - a president can prompt them to act - maybe they will and maybe they won't. Republicans didn't hold majorities in both houses of congress and lock dems out to carry out a Trump agenda - like dims did obamaCare. The truth was Trump wasn't an insider and nobody in congress was particularly fond of him - we need more of that. The simple fact is there are plenty of real things to deal with - pandering to groups to curry favor is wasted time ... and money.

Time heals all wounds? Unless people keep picking at the scabs to keep it going.

BIDEN: Juneteenth is "a day in which we remember the moral stain and the terrible toll that slavery took on the country—and continues to take." which can be exploited for my own political gain

LOL....yes I forgot the Rs never exploit any issue like immediately scaring the s*** of the gullible about how them evil Dems are gonna take your guns every time someone shoots up another school or workplace or just mention abortion to scare every white Evangelical from miles around.

Oh yes, poor white people. Stop bringing up the sh** they did for hundreds of years because damn it they are sure tired of hearing about it! THINK OF THE WHITE PEOPLE!

I seem to remember a lot of white people came here in the beginning to avoid religious and political persecution. Now GA was a little different - people were sent here as punishment, and a lot of the less desirable Scots and Irish were imported as a buffer to absorb Indian attacks.

Never heard of Juneteenth until we moved to coastal Mississippi. Absolute blast of a block party on our street every year (we were the only white family on that road). Learned about it from the neighbors.

To those with ancestors who were slaves, this is a very important holiday. I am glad they can celebrate, and am glad we are recognizing it nationwide.

After all: Texas knew about abolition, but didn't do **** to conform until the military showed up with the official proclamation.

Not really. Before last year, very few people actually celebrated accept a few in a couple of states. Let's ease up on the hyperbole.
