What good is naming an official holiday for an historic event when you just time shift it most years to a Friday or Monday? Pretty much defeats the concept, but we wouldn't want to short a federal or a bank employee. Things like July 4 and November 11 (eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month) have significance if you respect the date. Combining Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays was a stupid concept - with or without the other reason. Congress should have just not been cowardly and said MLK was a better man than one of the two presidents and faced the backlash.

That federal law is no joke. But in your defense, a Landlord can refuse to rent to someone for any stated reason other than discrimination. The rub is trying to prove discrimination. I rent property. I speak with others who rent property. They can be very cavalier in trusted groups about the REAL reason they don't rent to some people. People are denied housing on color, religion, cohabitation, kids, country of origin all the time. But landlords will not declare that is the real reason.

In current US politics, if one side is happy, the other side has to be angry.

Except that another federal holiday effectively does cost you more money. They all get to stay home with a paid day off, so you aren't getting the work that you pay them for done. Not to mention benefits that go along with it..

I won't gaf anymore about this than I do Kwaanzaa. I won't be celebrating anything unless there is some government office I need and it is actually open. But that is way too much to ask.
