Juneteenth

I clicked on that expecting it to be the Babylon Bee but it was an even bigger satire site. MSN😂

““Juneteenth, there’s always been a lot of shootings in our neighborhood, and we want to curb it. We’re saying let’s stand down for 24 hours…and see what we can get done,” said Edmondson.”

Ok let’s get back to killing each other next Monday but call it a weekend 🤣🤣🤣

Representative G. K. Butterfield, Democrat of North Carolina, led lawmakers in singing, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song which is often referred to as the Black national anthem.
Representative James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, the No. 3 House Democrat, said he would push for the song to be designated as America’s “National Hymn.” Biden Signs Bill Making Juneteenth a Federal Holiday
Nice, now replace the Star Spangled Banner

I was replying to someone that made a comment that Dems don’t hold their own side accountable talking about the governor in Virginia….maybe you should try reading everything that has been said.
I did. A man as informed as you, coupled with your strong academic credentials, shouldn't stoop to tribal politics in a thread designed to avoid such petty grievances

Boy, this thread didn't disappoint - barely three pages in and the usual suspects are predictably whining.

BIDEN: Juneteenth is "a day in which we remember the moral stain and the terrible toll that slavery took on the country—and continues to take." which can be exploited for my own political gain

Multigenerational trauma is a real thing.

It shouldn't take a holiday to celebrate, in whatever fashion, the end of slavery. But, there are many pros to this, and little if any cons. We honor veterans, presidents, freedom from british oppression (but not our own governments), Easter, Xmas, A day of work to celebrate working, etc., etc. No harm in officially adding this to the celebrations. No one today were slaves...but no one today was in the Revolutionary War either.

The only real con to this is referring to it as Juneteeth. That's some straight up uneducated hood rat jive talk.

"National Independence Day" is stupid too, but I wouldn't really expect anything else from PedoJoe signing something that was rushed faster than his prune juice barreling towards his colon...but its just semantics.

Hopefully the PedoJoe administration will keep its focus on eliminating the racially based federal holiday disparity in this country so we can all begin to heal.

What good is naming an official holiday for an historic event when you just time shift it most years to a Friday or Monday? Pretty much defeats the concept, but we wouldn't want to short a federal or a bank employee. Things like July 4 and November 11 (eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month) have significance if you respect the date. Combining Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays was a stupid concept - with or without the other reason. Congress should have just not been cowardly and said MLK was a better man than one of the two presidents and faced the backlash.
The day off for the 4th always gets shifted if it's on a weekend. No idea what point you are trying to make.
