just for fun - which would you choose?

OK on hindsight maybe I should have used the sweet 16 intead of Elite 8 for scenario 1. I just picked Elite 8 because they made it last year with (IMO) a much more deserving team. This year's team has been nothing short of infuriating to watch and follow. I can tell you this much - as frustrating as it's been if they don't make the tourney or get bounced in the 1st round by 80 I won't be nearly as upset as I was when they lost to Michican State last year. They can lie in the bed they made.

I do think you are way off base with your comment about making the tourney and losing by 80 being better than a lady Vol victory over UConn. I respect that you just don't follow or care about women's baskeball, but I don't see a majority of Vol fans agreeing with that. Maybe I'm wrong...[/QUOTE]

I didn't say I didn't care nor did I say Vol fans didn't care, but if you want to compare which one is cared for more, the men win big time.

I'd take one extra point against Arkansas on Thursday over a Lady Vols Championship

What are the chances a UFO will land on the top of TBA and little orange men will come out? About the same as this speculation coming true.

There are significant levels of achievement and the national title is at the top, but there are other levels.

For football, it's a bcs bowl

For baseball and softball, the college world series.

For gymnastics, the super six.

For volleyball, the final four.

For basketball, it's also the final four.

The elite 8 isn't that big a deal....compared to a national title.

I'm not denying that, otherwise the question would have been "which would you take, a men's or a women's NC?". Almost everyone agrees that fans care more about the men (it's not sexism, just quality of play - same with any sport). BUT the level you put it on is absurd. I mean, I'd take a ham sandwich over making the NCAA and losing by 80, and I don't even like ham!

For me, only a Final 4 would be better than a LV championship. (Maybe this wasn't the case last year because we had never made Elite.) However, I can understand anyone thinking sweet 16 and above is more significant. But go less than that and you lose me.

I'm not following you here tennesseekilt? A ham sandwich is way better than a LV national championship without a doubt.

It would only be better if that ham sandwich was made by the Lady Vols.

The way the Lady Vols are playing, a win over UConn wouldn't be improbable nor a dramatic upset IMO. They're on a roll and playing some of the best basketball I've seen from a Lady Vols team in a long time. If Simmons can control her TO's, I'd give them a great shot vs UConn.

With that said, I'd probably take an Elite 8 though. Would make us a very attractive option when looking to hire a new coach.

Hell ya, that's an activity that would get me fired up and cheering them on. A ham sandwich national championship.

I would take the LV NC over UConn before I would the Elite Eight. Now, if you change it to Final Four, I might change my mind, but only if we are just trading for them to make it and they have the chance to go farther. I can remember having Kentucky fans back in the day say "wait til basketball season" after we beat them in football and the only retort I could give them was "in Tennessee, that is a Ladys game." I imagine all those LV NC banners in TBA make many fans think it isn't that big of a deal. To some of us, it is still a NC. When people think of NCAAW basketball, Tennessee and Pat Summitt are 2 of the major images they see. Our court is not called the Summitt because it's on a hill. Let's cement our dynasty while we can. One other note: If we could beat Geno and the Huskies by 30 or more for the NC, I would think about foregoing the Final Four in mens this year. If we go too far, I am afraid the 'AA may decide to make our punishment even worse than they are already considering.

I'll take another Elite Eight by the Men over another NC by the Women, but that's where I am drawing the line. I'd rather see the LVs beat UConn and take it all than see the Men make it to the Sweet Sixteen again.

And, if the given the choice, I'd take an SEC Tournament title by the Men over another NC by the Women.

I prefer to watch Men's basketball, but I do enjoy Women's basketball. So, I'll take an NC win by beating UConn over seeing the Men do something they've done several times lately. But, I'll take something rare like an Elite Eight or SECT title over a 9th LV's NC.

So the title of this thread was "Just for fun...?"

manfromtn I'm with you 100%. I'll go a bit further and add that I have a young daughter who goes crazy when we watch the Lady Vols show off on the basketball court. Nothing against cheerleaders, but I appreciate the level on which she connects with what's on the court, learning the rules, the plays, seeing the punches and counter punches. Its a good, good thing.

I'll go #2 until we have a legit shot at the Final Four.

Maybe if we could borrow some of the 3 shooters from the Lady Vols (17/22 against K) we would win a NC. I haven't seen any of the guys do that! I haven't missed either ones game this year, and I enjoy both.

Go big Orange mens and gals!!!!!!

1.) Assuming they make the tourney, UT men shock the world and return to the Elite 8.

2.) UT ladies beat Geno and UConn in an improbable upset for the National Title.
Number 1 and it's not close.

I would gladly trade our entire Lady Vols Basketball program for a trip to the Final Four.
