just for fun - which would you choose?

Without Pat Summit and the Lady Vol basketball legacy the University would not be the powerhouse sports school that it is.
This is one of the dumbest things I have read on VN.

Also, I would gladly give up Pat Summitt if it meant we could get rid of Pearl right after this season and hire Mike Anderson.

Dumbest. Thread. Ever.

The men just getting into the NCAA tournament is 1 million x > than the woman winning the national championship by shutting out every single team they play.

It was headed towards dumbest thread ever, but you just solidified it's place.

I'd take a national title in damn near anything over simply making the elite 8.

While it's cool in the moment, it's lasting legacy isn't that great.

Championships are forever

That doesn't mean it's better. It only matters if you care about women's basketball. Some do. Most don't.

It only becomes annoying when people seem to latch on it as an excuse/justification for mediocrity in other, much more important, areas. Its like saying its okay if your football team is dead last in the conference because your tennis team is pretty good.

I know womens basketball doesn't get the ratings, etc that mens does, but it does still matter to a lot of fans and no matter how you look at it, it is still one hell of an achievement to be a National Champion in it, let alone 8 times. What Pat Summit has accomplished is virtually unmatched in all of sports. and with what she has done for the University of Tennessee, it is almost unfathomable to imagine a Vol fan willing to letting her go for any men's coach.

I'd take Lady Vols over Uconn all day everyday.

For the folks choosing to simply make the Elite 8 you do realize we don't actually win anything for making it to the quarter-finals. I guarantee CBS/ESPN will post the "Bruce Pearl Violation Timeline" as a sticky for the duration of the game. :mf_surrender:

I'm a football fan first but sometimes I really wonder about Vol fans that treat the LV like the redheaded stepchild of UT sports. Right now LV basketball and softball are about the only squads we have with legit shots at NT's and who's reputations aren't mud.

That a false choice. You don't have to give one up for the other. And for people who like women's basketball, more power to them.

There are also people who like to light things on fire, watch paint dry, and hang out at the 7-11. Whatever.

There are significant levels of achievement and the national title is at the top, but there are other levels.

For football, it's a bcs bowl

For baseball and softball, the college world series.

For gymnastics, the super six.

For volleyball, the final four.

For basketball, it's also the final four.

The elite 8 isn't that big a deal....compared to a national title.

What on earth does any of this mean? Final Four in volleyball is comparable to final four in basketball???

Nobody cares about any sport but football and basketball.

I can't believe some people are actually picking the Lady Vols.

It's cool when they win but I really could care less about women's sports.

I might watch them in the tournament... maybe... if they make it to the final 4 or championship.
