Just got my Bill Maher tickets

No, that's a line of thought to try and convince people that atheists/agnostics are forming their own "religion". The onus is on the person who presents the hypothesis to prove it correct. Turning it around does not work.
the onus is on nobody for you to know something about your own beliefs and where they're rooted. I don't care what you believe and have no dog in the fight, so trying to justify your position by lumping me with the snakehandlers doesn't work.

We all have to answer our own fundamental questions about our life and nobody else owes us jack for answers. Cruising along thinking your viewpoint isn't rife with assumptions is preposterous and has absolutely nothing to do with religion.

But would we not be patrolling those waters at all times anyway?

Listen, the U.S. controls the overwhelming majority of nuclear weapons in the world. Anyone but an insane dictator of some 3rd world country (like Kim Jong Il, who doesn't have the nuke btw) knows that even if they hit the US with one nuke, we will launch 10x the amount at them and obliterate them. They're smart enough not to ever threaten using them against us.

That's why I think it's a crock that my tax dollars go to the numerous defense companies having fun seeing if they can blow up a missile with a missile.

the leverage we gain in the working system is worth every dime we could spend on said system.

call it whatever you will, but it harkens back to the day when only we had nukes.

Mutually Assured Destruction doesn't apply at all to the third world holes and non-governmental entities we're dealing with in the modern world of national defense.

Your boy Cllinton gutted the military and intelligence services more than anyone in history, yet didn't scrap SDI, wonder what's up with that?

This country won't be destroyed militarily IMO. It will be broken financially. China knows this and is positioning itself to do it.

I doubt China is looking to bankrupt its largest trading partner. They just want to leverage the daylights out of us.

. . . and the largest foreign investment is actually coming from the British.

and the vast majority of the investment here today is almost purely exchange rate driven. Foreigners will be the crowd to revive our real estate market if the exchange rate remains this way.

What percentage of your tax liability did you add back? You didn't accept the pathetic tax cut did you?
that confuses me. I didn't get the rebate either, but it isn't because I didn't accept it or my having added back part of my tax liability.

If the Republicans were such heroes of civil rights, why didn't Eisenhower pass the legislation?

Civil rights legislation was the dream of JFK. Had he lived, he would not have been able to get it through congress. LBJ was able to get it passed only as a tribute to JFK.

This is the second stimulus package by Bush. The first was a temporary across the board tax cut. Participation in the first package was/is not limited to lower income groups and I was simply inquiring if hat was still accepting that stimulus package.

They're our enemy? Our largest trading partner? The host of the Summer Olympics? When have they come close to hinting at the possibility of launching a cross-seas nuclear attack? The answer is they haven't. Reagan instituted the SDI/Star Wars when we thought the Soviets might hit us, and we didn't have the sense to abandon the program when they no longer were our enemies.

I'm all for military spending, especially when it comes to providing for our troops and for weapons systems that actually would help us (or even that we'd ever use), but this is government waste of the highest order.

That makes them our friends. I mean the Soviets never hosted an Olympics before. :whistling:

That's the problem I have with liberals. You never seem to take the threat of Communism serious enough. And I don’t mind spending most of our money on the military. That is in fact the #1 job of Government.
