Kamera Harris commits to Tennessee

Our defensive style of over-playing requires a shot blocking presence. We haven't had one in ages. It will be a tale of beauty and the beast. Russell can make cutesy layups and soft shots while Harris can be the intimidator. Good get!

Same way I felt! One of the reason Stewart (early in her career at UConn) & Keleena Mosequda-Lewis (who is a horrible defender) was able to gamble on defense was because they knew if they got beat they had Kia Stokes back there to Swat things away, the same for Baylor and Odyssey Sims when Griner was there. It also allows for players to leak out on offense early (cherry pick). She should help us both offensively and defensively in transition and if some of you (who think Dean is the best post coach known to man kind) are patient enough she might develop an offensive game and be a double double type player for us. Some times you have to get players to fit in your system (Geno has shown that over time) it not about the top recruits all the time.

She committed on Sunday but didn't announce until today so she could let all the other coaches know before it came out. Had nothing to do with Kyra and everything to do with Holly.

Tennessee has been her dream school. She almost signed in November but decided to wait until April to improve her options. Glad she did.

She held an offer from Oregon State, the same school that just made the final four, as well as other SEC schools.

Love the fact that it was her Dream school! I can't wait to see her play!

She better start getting in shape because I think she is going to have to play a lot. Nobody currently on the team is willing to do Graves job so far. It will be interesting to see how it comes together next year. It is a pivotal year for Holly.

was supposed to be a pivotal year for Warlick? Maybe we don't have pivotal years anymore at UT--we just muddle along.

I think if Nared can improve her offensive game and average, say, 10 points a game, and if our guard play gets (signficantly) better, we may not miss Graves as much as we think. However, we could have the same problem facing zones as we did last year. We'll probably start DD, Russell, Nared, Cooper and Reynolds. Who is going to make threes? Who is going to make outside jumpers consistently? DD is at her best pulling up for mid-range shots; she has not shot well from deep. Maybe Nared and the guards will improve a bit--but can any of them really become dependable shooters? Cooper, with her old-school set shot? I wouldn't count on it. Carter and Middleton are our best pure shooting guards--and they might both be on the bench! Should they be? This is a problem. You can't beat zone defenses and win games if you are playing guards who can't shoot; I mean, we could if we had a good, efficient offense and everybody else was scoring--but that's not been the case with the Vols, and you always have to get some scoring from your guards.

Bashaara brought toughness and rebounding to the team. I don't see the other players on the team being able to replicate this. Who else is willing to body up and get physical in the paint? We've seen flashes from Jaime, but not enough to say that she can replace what Bashaara gave the team for the last 4 years.

Holly used to pull Simmons when she would start jacking them up; she needs to start pulling Carter, Reynolds and Middleton when they pass on open shots from the perimeter.

You could have Brittney Griner playing in the middle and still be a middling team if you have guards that can't play.
The starting guards need to average about a combined 20 points per game at a minimum for this team to be competitive. Reynolds/Carter couldn't even muster 10 points per game between the two of them.

Until Tennessee guards become players, then next year will the much of the same as this year without the post-season run.

She wasn't even all state honorable mention.

How far the LVS have fallen.

Your are right. Actually she did better than that....I'm excited about this commit. She's a great asset to the team...and can be a great impact player. Moreover, her shot blocking doesn't appear to be a fluke as she averages close to 8 blocks per game. Her coach stated that she is not prone to fouling out as was mentioned before...apparently she has only fouled out 4-6 times in her entire 4 years in HS. That's good.

Note to shot blocker: Make your haters your motivators and "always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper" as Bey would say! Go get them.

We now need to have the JC player committ and the point guard from Turkey then next season roster is probably set. Then we need three top 25 players in the 2017 class to sign with us in the early signing period. If Holly and coaches get all this done then were back in business at least in two years or maybe next year depending on player development.

Right so my guess is you are someone close to Harris....anyway her game doesn't translate to being an impact player...she needs to be developed and who on this staff will do that?? Dean?? Cause the last 3 star he got he did wonder with :thud:
