Kamera Harris commits to Tennessee

Why are some of us getting ugly about this recruit when we have not given her a chance to play one game? Yes it would be nice to have another Candace Parker with a five star pedigree, but we are not the first high profile program to sign a 3 star. There has been many three stars, or less, that have become All Americans on the big stage. Remember Genno recruits 3 stars and make them into five stars. GIVE THE YOUNG LADY A CHANCE.

Cause we suck as fans.:) At least that's what we keep getting told. Of course Holly will never be a great coach. So doesn't matter who we sign until she's gone.

I would love to disagree with you but I cannot. At this stage, I am more concerned about the coaching then those we recruit. :cray:

Holly said several times this past season that she's pleaded with Andraya to shoot more. She just won't.

These kids know the value of the off season.
They all played AAU in the summer.

They all know that players are built in the off-season...,, Teams are built in the season.

I think it is great that young Miss Harris is a Lady Vol :)

does she need some polishing to be a better player? yes

but most of them do,she will be a fine player, just hide and watch

DD sat out only 1 year, correct? I'm not sure why she was so bad for such a long period this past year. The layoff no doubt had something to do with, but she seemed to have some attitude/engagement issues that really hurt the team. You can't have a player with her talent playing as poorly as she did--but she did seem focused in the tournament and played quite well. Still, she should play well in almost every game.

Carter has got to start thinking like a scorer. She got the prettiest jump shot on the team--but dribbles too much and is simply too meek on offense. We need her to make plays. She seems afraid of making a mistake or missing a shot--and maybe that comes from Warlick, I don't know. We need tougher, more fearless players--and it is up to the coaches to cultivate those qualities. Enough with this 'get the ball inside' at all costs Warlick philosophy. It has hurt us more than it has helped.

I suspect the point guards have been doing exactly what they have been told to do: dribble around until someone gets free. However, since there is so little movement or plays run, they wait and wait and wait...

I like the get the ball inside model. The problem is our guards can not make entry passes and have no vision. I wish Holly knew how to recruit a TRUE point guard; and please, no more of this combo guard stuff. IMO that has been the main problem. Give us a point guard and a shooting guard.

+1 I like that mantra as well! Geno used it when he had dominant post play in the years of Charles and Dolson. Why wouldn't you get the ball to your most efficient scores on the floor??? It's common sense right. Mercedes and Bash were exception at passing the ball out the post, so it's an even more effective game plan with that added ability. HOWEVER it only works when you have guards that

1. Make wide open shots

2. Have the vision to make a successful entry pass, where the big doesn't have to get out of position just to catch it.

3. Move without the ball instead of standing

We have no guards that can do this at a consistent clip. We all seen what happens when the guards play well....we win!

Good guard play wins games!!!

Geno has never used the "get the ball inside first" approach. It was always ball movement, and whoever was open took the shot. Dolson was more of a facilitator from the high post as opposed to someone who got the ball in the paint and passed back out.

The problem with the rigid style of forcing the ball inside is that defenses know that and they collapse in the middle. And Tennessee's guards are too inept to do anything about it other than try to force the ball inside anyway and end up burning through the shot clock and chucking up a prayer, or turning the ball over.

Not only do they need guards who are average/above average players, but they also need an offense that can read the defense and adjust accordingly. Tennessee has neither at the moment.

yea but use his name LadyVol ? :)

I don't have a problem with the team looking to pass inside, the problem I have is on the selection of passes used to get the ball inside, how many times did we see them throw into double and triple coverage ? there has to be a point when the players say wow that was a dumb ass pass by me

Russell could use a little glue on her hands. She really needs to be a lot stronger physically and play tougher. I have seen her play tough inside but it is not consistent. She really needs to play like she owns the paint. Added to that, I agree that our guard play needs a lot of work. A lot of this is coaching, because some of these errors could be corrected if done so by the right coach.

One thing I notice she does is that on her shot she pushes the ball up from her chest. That negates her height and effectively makes her a smaller player to guard. It is very awkward and she will have to completely retool it. Not only is it hard to be accurate shooting that way, but it makes it easy for SEC level players to just grab the ball from her.

well like i said Voluble she needs some polishing, but i think she is a much needed addition to the team and she will have a really good career as a Lady Vol

and yes ya'll have read it here first :)

Exactly. This board has been begging all year for a post to sign with us, and now people are taking shots at her when she's not even here yet. Shameful sort of welcome for her, and not encouraging for anyone else to sign.

Please do not blame a lack of recruiting on a fan message board. Fans are entitled to complain and cheer. No recruit is basing their decision off a little known board with anonymous posts.

+++++++++++

Combo guard is just another way of saying you don't differentiate between, or formulate one of each, a SG and a PG... A shoot first mentality PG... You can have them.... That's is what has happened here.. Middleton and Draya are both, pass-first PG's forced to try to think like combo guards. Coop and Jordan care can take the role, but they're much better structured for the SG role.

And whoever it was that said Draya should shoot more,,, and spoke of her beautiful shot... I agree.

The trouble is, they have to be able to pull the trigger without fear of reprimand every time. (On a dumb shot decision, YES... But on a good look, NO!)

Ever watch the WNBA?
Happens there too.

When your "jump shot" is from the chest it takes away your ability to shoot properly in motion... The trouble is these kids aren't taught the three specific shot environments ( Set shot, Rhythm shot and Touch shot) and that each of the three sets of mechanics for each type of shot is much different to the other two. You cannot shoot touch-shots (Fadeaways, floaters, put-backs) the way you shoot Rhythm shots (Shots taken off of the received pass or the dribble pick-up). And you have all day to prepare for your set-shot (foul shot or unguarded shot).
