was supposed to be a pivotal year for Warlick? Maybe we don't have pivotal years anymore at UT--we just muddle along.
I think if Nared can improve her offensive game and average, say, 10 points a game, and if our guard play gets (signficantly) better, we may not miss Graves as much as we think. However, we could have the same problem facing zones as we did last year. We'll probably start DD, Russell, Nared, Cooper and Reynolds. Who is going to make threes? Who is going to make outside jumpers consistently? DD is at her best pulling up for mid-range shots; she has not shot well from deep. Maybe Nared and the guards will improve a bit--but can any of them really become dependable shooters? Cooper, with her old-school set shot? I wouldn't count on it. Carter and Middleton are our best pure shooting guards--and they might both be on the bench! Should they be? This is a problem. You can't beat zone defenses and win games if you are playing guards who can't shoot; I mean, we could if we had a good, efficient offense and everybody else was scoring--but that's not been the case with the Vols, and you always have to get some scoring from your guards.
Probably the first 3* they have signed in a long time.
I agree with you airchair but I think we have the shooters they just wont ("Shoot The Damn Ball")! Carter rather dribble around with her head to the ground and Middleton is looking to make the flashy pass majority of the time. Our girls don't understand their roles and have to be told that. Middleton, Carter, and Dunbar should be told their job is to get to the open spot (whether behind the 3 or not) and if they are open shoot the ball. Dunbar does it but she doesn't see the floor we have to have the other girls who can do it do it and not try to dribble or force it in all day and that's what separates the UConn's, Baylors, ND from us and other programs over the years our players seem to not understand their value to the "team" and what the "team" needs them to do to be successful.
Molly Bent & Kyla Irwin : signed by UCONN
Victoria Patrick : signed by S.C.
Mikaela Brewer : signed by Stanford
Chanin Scott : signed by Kentucky
Jada Undeerwood : signed by Texas
Sara Myers : signed by Maryland
Janessa Thropay : signed by Ore. St.
SYRACUSE signed three
ALL OF THESE SCHOOLS WERE RATED HIGHER THAN TENNESSEE !!!!!
*****ALL OF THESE PLAYERS HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON***** (ALL ARE THREE STAR RATED) JUST SAYING
The people that have been shooting are Diamond and Cooper close to 900 shots between them. Only problem is the 38.5 percent they made of all those shots.
Volfan2012: I`m with you on this on Diamond and Cooper close to 900 shots between them. Here is my point Diamond will hit most of her shots or should and has the ability create her own. Now with Cooper because she has that set shot / from the hip shooting form there is no way she will become a good shooter. If you notice she drives to the basket most of the time because it`s easy to block her shot. So right now we have guards who don`t pose a threat on the offensive end of the court.
I think Diamond just had an off year having that long two years of sitting out and injuries. I fully expect her to be a much better shooter come next season. Like you said the Cooper shot is crap and she really needs to change it if she is going to be a consistent shooter. She also needs to learn more about setting up other players for shots she had more turnovers than assists and that is not what you need out of a point guard.
Carter has got to start thinking like a scorer. She got the prettiest jump shot on the team--but dribbles too much and is simply too meek on offense. We need her to make plays. She seems afraid of making a mistake or missing a shot--and maybe that comes from Warlick, I don't know.
DD sat out only 1 year, correct? I'm not sure why she was so bad for such a long period this past year. The layoff no doubt had something to do with, but she seemed to have some attitude/engagement issues that really hurt the team. You can't have a player with her talent playing as poorly as she did--but she did seem focused in the tournament and played quite well. Still, she should play well in almost every game.

We need tougher, more fearless players--and it is up to the coaches to cultivate those qualities. Enough with this 'get the ball inside' at all costs Warlick philosophy. It has hurt us more than it has helped.
So what you are saying is our coach sucks.
