I mean, It's all a form of subsidy. Just like the child tax credit. May as well take away the housing deduction. I went for years without enough of deductions to itemize because we paid off our house in our mid 40's. Our only deduction was our child tax credit for several years. Why do we reward people for being 1000s of dollars in debt. Would we not be better served by rewarding people for not being in debt?Interesting.
Go on.
I wouldn’t mind seeing ALL deductions and credits done away with. Go to a national head tax, if your breathing you owe.
The midterms are still a toss-up. I know you guys are taking your laps celebrating, and that is fine, whatever. But don't underestimate the anger on either side. Conservatives and liberals are pissed right now, for different reasons, but I think we will see record midterm turnout for both sides next month. Depends on which side gets more folks to the polls. We are deeply, deeply divided, so it will be razor thin majorities either way it plays out.I think you are going to be very sad in mid terms and the fact that Trump will be a two term president . Do you still have enough tears left to cover all that ?
Careful, you might get accused of being a heathen socialist talking like that on here. Also a person filing single should have a higher standard deduction than someone filing HOH, married, etc. Or better yet do away with filing statuses and revamp the system to where there’s no need for any deductions.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/08/politics/cnn-poll-kavanaugh-confirmation/index.html
Overall, 51% in the poll oppose Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court, up from 39% who opposed it in early September, after his initial confirmation hearing but before accusations of sexual misconduct emerged. Support for Kavanaugh's confirmation has merely inched up, by contrast, from 38% backing him in early September to 41% now.
The public's take on Kavanaugh is much more negative than it was in early August, not long after President Donald Trump nominated him to fill the seat being vacated by Anthony Kennedy. Back then, 33% viewed him positively and 29% had a negative take. Now, nearly half have a negative view (47%) while 35% have a positive take.
Among women, 53% now have a negative view, up from 33% in August. Men split evenly, 41% positive to 41% negative, but that's still an increase in negative impressions compared with a 40% positive to 25% negative divide in August.
So the larger the family the more they owe? In reality that’s how it should be. Taxation has simply become too politicized and too many love that once a year welfare check at someone else’s expense.
I just have to laugh at folks on the right calling Obama the most divisive President.
Trump's entire presidency is insulting people and sticking his thumb in their eye.
I get that it's satisfying to you to have someone like him just constantly provoke and antagonize moderates and progressives. We'll see how that works out for you.

The only problem I have with that is when people are ODing in the streets even more than they are now and lives are being wrecked many of the same ones that want everything legalized will be wanting the government fix the same drug problems they were advocating for.
