Keep Bruce Pearl

someone's getting fired someone's bringing in the number 1 recruiting class...

marcus camby took money AFTER he was at UMASS

cal never even named in the memphis investigation

what did he lie about?

If you have a modicum of intelligence, you know Cal isn't clean by a long shot. Has he got caught? No. Is it because he's not cheating? No, it's because he's smart. Pearl's obviously an idiot; I don't have any problem admitting that. But, don't sit there and pretend that the coach of one of the dirtiest programs in the history of college basketball is clean.

One of the dirtiest? The University of Kentucky is the most sanctioned basketball program in NCAA history.

My main point being that it isn't all gloom and doom if Pearl leaves.
Maybe not. Maybe so.

There are a lot of people that think Tennessee will not miss a beat if Pearl is fired. There are people that think Tennessee might as well get rid of the Men's Basketball Program if he is fired.

Don't you think reality lies somewhere in the middle? Do you think our first hire after Pearl is going to be a home run? What about the hire after that?

Are we going to suck forever and ever if Pearl is fired? No. Is there a chance that this could set us back a decade with poor hires? Definitely, IMO.

Especially if you take into account the fact that for most of Mears' tenure only one team per league made the 'AAs. Put those squads in the era of 64 team fields and UT would have made the field almost every year from '65 to '84.

You are absolutely correct. Mears teams would have made the tournament every year. We would have a much more significant NCAA tournament history if the tournament was set up then as it is today.

Snooze fest. This is getting blown up way out of proportion.

You are right on man. Stating facts makes you a Pearl hater. Lying and cheating mean nothing and should simply be ignored. Being banned from off campus recruiting and having significant salary cuts means nothing. This whole mess is simply blown completely out of reality. None of this is significant and will have any impact on the basketball program. We should be proud that Pearl admitted lying and cheating and fully support him in all he does.

I love Bruce Pearl and I have since he walked on our campus...I will NEVER turn my back on Bruce. He is a good man.

how come calipari does all that cheating and the ncaa does nothing?

Because hes very smart. You dont think he wanted Selby too once he reopened his recruitment? Of course, but he also knew the NCAA was watching Selby's re-recruitment and he wasnt willing to take a risk when he could get someone else a little more under the radar. Cal covers his tracks better than anyone in the NCAA. When he gets caught, it will be a monster finding, not a barrage of photos at his home or an extra cell phone.

Maybe, but at this point, I think we've sold our souls to the devil, at the expense of the university. Yes, we've gotten A LOT better in Basketball, but at what cost? I've never understood ANY university tolerating this stuff because sanctions, probes, and penalties aren't worth Elite 8's or National Championships.

It isn't a matter of what Cal has or hasn't lied about. It is a matter of whether he was ever caught in a lie or ever admitted to doing so. I, for one, find it completely ludicrous that Coach Cal did not "know" that D Rose's brother was on official team flights for away games. For some reason Cal just seems to always get away with everything he does. The whole Bledsoe grade changing thing may eventually catch up to him, but I wouldn't put money on it. That is yet another thing that he had no idea was going on I am sure...

Maybe Coach Cal's pockets are much, much deeper than any of us could possibly know. We all know about the connections to Phil Knight, WWW, etc. What's to say that Cal isn't Gotti's illegitimate love child and has tie-ins to the mafia?

I'm not accusing, I'm just a kid that asks questions- Eric Cartman

But are Elite 8's and NC's worth a snapshot and a few phone calls? That is the real question...

Thought I would just add this in here. Urban Meyer has had 30 arrests among 27 different players during his tenure at UF. Pearl's first mess up and this fanbase freaks out.

the difference is that Meyers players arrests involved off field incidents. Urban might need to recruit players with better character but he hasnt committed any NCAA violations while doing it.

All I'm saying is that the scrutiny of an NCAA investigation, and the penalties that come with that, don't equate to success. This kind of stuff ALWAYS catches up to you and the school and ALWAYS hurts like a kick in the nuts.

NO! Fire Pearl, we need to find someone who will lose more than he will win, to keep in line with football!

The coach takes responsibility chief. Always does. Tyler Smith had a unregistered handgun (well, so do thousands of Americans, especially in the south) and some weed. Please, if you pull over 15 people on random in Memphis, half will have weed. He removed them immediately. Stalking?! Really? that sounds worse than a gun and some misdemeanor amounts of marijuana.

So youre making a blanket assumption on the citizens of Memphis about having weed? You made a great point with your first line though, the coach does have ultimate responsibility. If stalking sounds worse than having not one, but two illegal guns with filed off serial numbers; then I need to take part in whatever youre smoking.

I love how the people claiming to be level headed and rational assume that there were just a few phone calls, and not just a few per day over 2 years.

"A few phone calls" over the limit doesn't get noticed.

Time to Die sound worse than guns under the seat to me.

What is it that makes Bruce haters hate Bruce so much? Because he wins? Because he shouts? Because he's Jewish? Because he prays before every game? His hair? His willingness to paint himself orange? I have wanted to ask that (those) question(s) for a long time.
