but i was having fun...your coach now looks like he's 17, but I hear good things about him. My wife is a Memphis grad and I started at Lambuth in Jackson before transferring to UK

I think Bruce Pearl deserves a 2nd chance. He has done too much for UT Basketball. UT Basketball was a coaches graveyard and a joke before Bruce Pearl showed up. I never want UT Basketball to go back to getting beat 101-40 by Kentucky. I never want to see UT get a team full of players like Alico Dunk,Gannon Goodson,John Snodgrass and Ronnie Reese.


I am also tired of these Holier than thou people on all these boards I have read. Of course most of these type posters could care less if UT Basketball went back to the crapper. All these coaches bend the rules a little bit.

I will tell a story a former coworker told me. This coworker's fathernlaw worked in the athletic department at UT. This guy told me about Don Devoe recruiting Chris Jackson back in 1988. Don Devoe ran into former Ole Miss coach Ed Murphy at one of Chris Jackson's ballgames. Murphy told Devoe that Ole Miss offered Jackson $40,000 but LSU offered $80,000 and we can't compete with that. This guy said Devoe was sqeaky clean and never thought about cheating. Of course Devoe got fired even though UT went to the NCAA Tourney. Devoe got fired because there were 2 McDonalds All Americans from Chattanooga named Malcom Mackey and Orlando Lightfoot. Mackey went to Georgia Tech and Lightfoot went to Oklahoma. Mackey even had a former High School teamate named Jay Price on the UT team and never gave UT a look.


Devoe was a great floor coach but didn't recruit well because he was too honest.

I know it's difficult for us Vol fans to do, but what do you think when you look at this single situation from a completely objective point-of-view? Sure, this is a mess; is it a ground-shaking debacle that completely ruins our university? Is it such a big deal that they (if they even could) fire Pearl? When you look at this single situation, I think it doesn't warrant a firing. Punishment? Absolutely. That's what I think when I put my bias aside.

With my bias, I will be really pissed if Pearl is fired for this. I wouldn't want to fire him unless some major scandal was uncovered...I mean MAJOR. If the violations aren't that terrible, I hope UT wouldn't have any mind to fire him; he's a great coach and seems to be 120000% a proud Tennessee Vol. To me, his loyalty and UT pride are nearly as big an asset to the university as are his coaching abilities. But this isn't over and who knows what could happen. Hopefully nothing. Go Pearl and go BasketVols!

I grew up in Lexington and have lots of friend that went to Lambuth. Glad to see that they secured a buyer to keep the school financially alive.
