keep jim chaney

I'm no football guru, but I look at personal and formations and tell you what we are going to run 80% of the time. I think Chaney has done a good job but he's not mixing it up enough. Maybe the percentage is 50/50 but it's obvious while watching that it's either run, run, run, or pass, pass, pass.

I like jim but any decent pro style OC could have generated a top 20 offense with CP, Hunter, Rivera, and that oline.

I think he calls plays designed to give the best players the ball.

He might not run the ball much but its for good reason.. we don't have an elite back. we have a sick pass blocking oline,qb, receivers and TE

you can't argue with his production this year. and he's had to call plays when trailing in practically every game

The main reason I don't like Cheney is the fact that he DOESN'T do that. CP should not have gotten less than 15-20 touches per game in any game this year. Cheney simply failed to put the ball in the hands of our best playmakers as often as he should have. It's common sense to do that, yet he calls plays as if all of our skill players are equal, and that simply isn't the case.

Unfortunately, CP's "touches" depend also on CP actually running a pattern and actually catching the ball. He's great after catch, but he simply doesn't get open. (Then everyone on here gripes at Bray for trying to get it to him anyway.)
And, personally, I spent the whole Vandy game wondering where Rivera was.

Well, if the talent could consistently catch a pass, we would have had another td or 2 every game.

With a good offensive coordinator we wouldn't need to catch 60 passes and have chances at drops because we would of ran it down peoples throats more often for touchdowns and more screen passes just would of been a smartest offense.

I specifically said "touches" and not "targets" because there are ways other than throwing the ball to him for him to have the ball in his hands. They should have designed reverses, end-arounds, and other such running plays specifically for him to get the ball. Why not let him run the wildcat at times as well? It's called creativity--Chaney has NONE OF IT. This would have created more opportunities in the play-action game as well. They did start doing this a little bit in recent games, but not enough, and not soon enough.

Chaney sucks no way he will be part of the new staff. This team would have racked up a ton of yards with me as the OC.The offense had NFL talent at basically every position except RB and Chaney still found a way to screw it up at times. If Chaney's plan isn't working he has no clue how to fix it on the fly and panics. With Chaney as coordinator we will never have a dominating running game and that's what we need to compete in the SEC unless we can find a QB with crazy legs like Manziel. A break down of the stats shows that we had almost 200 yards per game more against non SEC teams. Padding stats against Troy, Ga Southern, Akron etc does not impress me at all.

Only coaches I wouldn't have a problem with staying on if the new coach hired some of them back is Graham, Pittman, McKeefery, and maybe Hinshaw.

Well I would give Coiner a chance, He hasn't been giving the best players to work with on special teams and the TEs seem to be the only ones caching the ball when the team really needs them to.

Graham and Pittman and that's it, hinshaw never progressed the qbs and went to receivers and they started droppin passes. We haven't closed out games either so I put that on s and c coach. Id only let hinshaw stay for the recruiting and that's it. Chany has the worst play calling ever, why does every running play he calls have to be out of some crazy formation, especially when the I was working.

I like Chaney. Can't really argue with being the best offense in the SEC and one of the best in the country. If this team had anywhere near a middle of the pack defense, Dooley would still be here.

I'd keep Chaney, Pittman, and Graham for sure. Errrrbody else can go kick rocks at some other school.

Very true. Also running the ball would allow us to control the clock more Something our coaches have done a terrible job of this year. Click management and running the ball helps keep our d off the field and wear the opponents D down. The quick score too often came back to haunt our team.

I understood that you said "touches" and why you said "touches". He averaged 2 running plays a game, which is actually quite a few for a wideout. I would've handed it to him more, too, but running your wideouts (even one as slippery as CP) has a point of diminishing returns. My point is that he adds half a dozen touches just by running his route right and catching the ball. For my money, the quick slant, hit him in stride, beats any number of reverses. Jerry Rice is considered the best of all time because of that play.

First off, a short passing game controls the clock equally as well as a running game.

Secondly, and more importantly, the teams that win in the SEC do not dominate time-of-possession. The old Majors/Fulmer approach of "let's not score, we need to control the clock" is long gone.
Alabama has run 684 plays this year to their opponents 672.
Georgia is 741 to 728.
Florida is 696 to 728!

LSU of 2011: 870 offensive plays to 897 by opponents.

Auburn 2010: 948 to 963.

The offense's job is to score points. Chaney's offense scores points; AND I'll say again, Chaney's offense moves the chains. Second most first downs in the league.

It will be interesting to see the play calling this week now that he has full control of the offense.

no no hell no... 3 and 1 throw 30 yds down the field, best leave the coaching and to coaches ... remember how Tn looked defensively and offensively through out the year.. let these peolplw earn their frickin money or hit the road jack... look at the money being soent to loose and stress everybodys ass out.. if we cannot at least compete ..coaches should hit the road no exception..
