Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

So was that after C. Hall asked her about "coaches taking responsibility"?

This is a VERY important detail IMO. She only offered this up AFTER she was asked about it... when she threw her players under the bus. Her culpability in this was almost an afterthought. While I've had questions about Kellie as a coach, I've always thought she was a reasonably intelligent person - but what a lack of self-awareness.

Also, this is a question Maria C. would never dare to ask...

Reporters can’t be fans first

Does CKH need to be dismissed?
Most definitely if this season keeps spiraling in the direction it seems to be now...

Will AD Danny White be able to lure a big time coach , in the league of Dawn Staley or Geno of the past?

Most likely not, he would probably have to get an overachieving Group of 5 HC...

But ever what decision is made ,it definitely needs to be a coach , who brings a grade A staff that can recruit and develop young talent...

Definitely a better recruiter than Kellie at this point.
But has trouble keeping them.

Agree, I said I was surprised KJH went after the players like that, but there's a chance they deserve it. But should have added herself first, even if she doesn't believe it. Sounds better.

Man, she just seemed gut punched by it all though. Don't think she saw this collapse coming, and that in itself is a problem.

I'm very glad we have Cora asking questions. Just wish she weren't so in love w Dawn and SC, makes her twitter hard to bear.

Opinion board ,I know I'm dealing with Ex 5 * All-american high school players on here...
But everybody has played sports either in high school or college...
I was trying to agree with you! 🤣
It does seem to me that many here believe all that is required is a quick trip to party city. That there’s a rack back in the corner where you can pick any number of highly qualified, successful coaches, pre-wrapped and labeled, for ADDW to hire. This ain’t going to be as easy as all dat.

It is hard for me to determine any coach that we could get that is both great at recruiting and coaching and has experience in both. Since being at Tennessee no longer seems to help in recruiting at all. There are some really good coaches out there as far as getting the maximum out of their personnel, but for Tennessee to go anywhere they need someone that can also recruit elite top 25 players. Still trying to decide who that would be cause all the big names out there are not coming to Tennessee. Someone is over on one of the other threads saying names like Close, Vince, etc coaches that can do both, but are not leaving their current situation to coach at Tennessee. I can come up with five good names, but the question that can't be answered is recruiting. The two Assistants we have now excelled at their other schools, but can't recruit a lick at Tennessee. You get speed and athletic ability on your team and suddenly anyone is a good coach.

Yep. The Jamilles and Josephines make a huge difference. One thing that @Majors always hammers home is winning solves all the problems.

this next game is full of intrigue,,a team that 8-1....they've played both levels of competition,,,from an exhibition against Transylvania where they won 65-42,,,to a contest with #4 Utah where the lost but scored 72 against them 117-72

gonna be interesting
No, it won't be interesting.

Eastern Kentucky's best win is a four point win over Massey ranked #165 UAB, a game they were losing when the 4th quarter started.

They lost by 45 to Utah.

Tennessee by 30 and a little less than that only if they get bored of scoring.

Not sure I’d take this team -30 against any D1 opponent right now.

I mean, yeah that is absolutely insane. Everyone knows all the good coaches are bought on Amazon. Obviously, the blue hairs won't let Danny White do on-line shopping. They are clinging to a brick and mortar past, dammitt!!!!

Yes and everybody you see winning big is loaded with top recruits. Not many exceptions and even the exceptions won't win the National Championship. Still I would be glad if we were as good as Colorado, NC State, or Utah. None have a lot of big name players, but they get the job done on the court.

Well crap. No wonder I can’t find us a good coach cause I’ve been looking on eBay.

I'll admit I don't follow the LV's as close as I do the other sports but I still try to watch/listen to as many games as possible. I was Kellie's #1 supporter as I meet her a few years back at a Indiana State/Missouri State game when she was coaching. Was sitting right behind the MSU bench and she spotted me in my UT gear during warmup and actually came up in the stands and we talked for about 5 minutes about hoops and UT. Told me then that she has always dreamed of being the LV's coach. I loved her personality and LOVED it when we finally hired her at UT! I think she's a great coach but the pressure of being a VFL and coaching here along with maybe this level is a bit to much for her....I hate saying that but it's getting harder to see her and the program struggle each game. I still hope she can get it turned around some how but I'm not sure that is going to happen before her time runs out here.....Now since I don't follow the women's game outside of my local ISU and our LV's who is everyone's choice or realistic replacement?

Wes Moore would have crawled over broken glass to coach at his alma mater when Harper was hired, the blue hairs have absolutely screwed this program and have let Pat down in a way that they should be crying themselves to sleep every night! Fulmer was told no males and it had to be someone from the Pat tree, Harper had already failed at NC State prior but yeah we still made that hire and now the guy who took over from her has a program that was winning at a 67% clip is now winning at a 75% clip. Moore would have killed it here at UT but instead we had to handcuff ourselves from making the best hire and now Moore is 66 years old and would never make the move. Poppie might be a good hire but he just doesnt have much head coaching experience although he did take over a 7-23 team and went 20-12 and is 8-1 there right now beating Ms State. I think he would do well here, but they really need to back a brinks truck up to hire an established coach but I'm not sure i see that happening.

All true. Man Cora is all over KJH right now. KJH acted surprised Cora would even have to ask about coaches taking respons. She was like "Oh yeah! Of course!" For sure. it was only when asked. But it did get said, which the TN article apparently didn't make clear.

Actually I was a little surprised she went in so hard on the players at first and knew it wouldn't go over well. OTOH everyone is always bitching for her to be tougher on the players and maybe they really are the ones not stepping up. You can drag a horse to water but can't make it drink. We don't really know the locker room.

Whatever the dynamic is, it's 100% the coach's job to straighten it out. We'll know by the results. KJH job is probably depending on it.
You can “Shoot” the horse. It appears Mulkey don’t mind doing that.

We are Tennessee...Exactly why would we go after top assistants?...We should only be going after established head coaches...We are not a learn as you go job...You don't give the keys of a ferrari to a driver who doesn't know how to drive it.
Danny White let pretty good soccer leave for more money. He need to give volleyball coach a raise or some other University may come for the soccer coach. Tennessee big money is in football. Tennessee is not put lady Vols basketball school. Like unconn and Gamecocks. I was going post this reply where someone was talking about Danny White decisions on what coach to hire next women's basketball coach.
