Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

The jury is still out on Kellie , if she didn't lose senior Keys for the season it might be a different scenario. My problem is I don't see any plays being implemented, no Xs and Os , no rotation certainties, damn she really seem lose this year. She wasn't all that bad when she had Rennia , Sugar Rae , Jordan , Key and that squad. But that's a wide gap between that team and this team, take a guess where the difference is. Can we say also that she took two damaged players out the portal , a pg that's not better than the players (Wynn, Miles)she already had, a freshman she seem to not have playing time for , and slow flat footed players she starts and have too much loyalty towards.
IDK...I'm not a coach but I believe I can do better in some areas than them. She need to purge her coaching staff ( especially her husband) and bring in a better staff ( development, Xs and Os) , if she wants to continue because the fanbase is starting to sound like the Holly warlick era ( real fed up ). Show people you know what to do with talent you have.
IDK buy its the first time I turned from a lady vols game , it was hard to watch ,really.
Have you watched any of the games, they lost 6 while Key was playing, so you can't go there, face the facts

After watching the last two games, it appears to me that KJH’s best five players are Hollinshed, Horston, Jackson, Puckett and Walker. Darby is a good three shooter when she has a clear shot, but her defense against top ten guards is lacking due to lack of foot speed. Since this multiple subing appears to not work against top ten teams, KJH needs to consider keeping her best players, barring fouling issues, on the floor as much as possible. I would also like to see more motion offense and setting more picks to open up looks for shooters.

I am a diehard Pat Summit fan. But I agree with most of the sentiments expressed. I believe that you can focus both on offense and defense. This current team has that potential. In any event, I still believe that Kellie is the right coach for the LVs and this current team will make some noise before this season wraps up. GBO.
The are making plenty of noise know, just not in the right direction

I don't ever remember seeing it in the 4th quarter in a one point game with timeouts left.
Different issue. Of course any coach would use t.o. to stop the clock or set up a play at the end of games. The question here is about the use of time outs to stop runs. Most coaches, including Rick and Kellie, don't do that anymore bc analytics show they're not all that effective in actually stopping runs. Stopping the clock does not equal stopping the momentum according to current coach think.

Depends. Unless we up and beat So Carolina either reg season or tourney, we'll most likely get a tourney draw that will make it really hard to even get to the Sweet 16. That's where the crazy hard early season sched comes back to bite. So failure to get at very least to S16 with this squad would be a big disappointment.

Since there are no new high school recruits, the portal this spring becomes vital. It will make all the difference in next year. Without some good additions, espec scorers, we're probably a middling team next year.

IMO, that's the point the groundwork starts getting laid, feelers start going out. A good hire is alot about timing. about what's available when you go looking. IMO, unless great stuff we don't foresee happens, next season they'll start the process, maybe quietly.

If the NIL situation is as big a factor as some insiders are saying it is, and if the crowdfunding doesn't pick up significantly, then I don't see how the portal is even going to help us. Thing is, some of the better players may opt to transfer BECAUSE they want better NIL deals, so wouldn't that just mean many of those players will, again, decide transferring to Tennessee wouldn't be lucrative enough? Why are we thinking we can snag a bunch of stars from the portal -- if there are even any available?

What a mess.

I really like one of my employees who just does not have the skills to do his job adequately. He's nice, respectful and was excellent during his interview. But at the end of the day, he needs to find a company to which he is better suited or to a job that he can do proficiently. Do I keep him employed because he's nice and respectful? No, I need someone who can get the job done. Sorry, but this is a business, and if he can't meet expectations he has to go. I think the same of our coaching staff. College Basketball is a revenue-generating business. If a coach can't cut it, time to find someone who can. Oh, and my employee made less than $100k per year. CKJ makes over ten times that amount. Time to put things in perspective...

Anecdotal examples are great (real or imagined), but no one said CKH should keep her job because she's 'nice'. The post was in response to others touting inexperienced LVFL's as possible coaching candidates due to their competitive nature and love for UT culture.

My assertion is she deserves at least one more year because she is about 3.7 years into a rebuilding project. Lots of people have written off next year already, but no one knows. Maybe Sarah, Tess, and Justine will light it up from outside consistently. Maybe they'll pick up a ringer who can create her own shot from the portal to go along with them, and Hollingshed will really develop. Nobody really knows, but I think she deserves that next year at least.

wrong with that. most of you all wants tenn miss ncaa so danny white drops the hammer for sure.

I think this is dead wrong. Most of the people on this board, including those of us who are pretty disgruntled, would love nothing more than for CKH to get this team rolling and to find some recruiting momentum. She’s very likable and bleeds orange all the way.

Until she does the above, though, the frustration from a healthy portion of this fan base isn’t going anywhere nor should it. The Lady Vol brand is powerful and shouldn’t accept mediocrity.

My bottom line is I wish everyone could wait just a little longer to make "Fire Kellie" the dominant message coming out of the Lady Vol fanship. If they don't reach at least the Sweet 16, then have fun after the last game! Maybe start a raffle to see who gets to join in on a public stoning of Harper! Or maybe to be one of the four fans who will have the honor of riding one of the four horses that'll rip Kellie's limbs from her as they all pull her in different directions, Braveheart style!

Do we really HAVE to have all this now? Before we even know what happens to end the season?

I get so #@%&ing sick of it, too. It only makes matters worse. Far worse.
If I survive this season it may be my last to follow and/or participate in sports social media. All the constant complaining has taken nearly all the fun out of it. Ugh. 😢
I get it but hope you persist. It is nice to have a person who is generally positive on the forum.

NIL will ruin college sports if they don’t get a handle on it.

This anaysis

This analysis is spot on. Going forward, I see the key to the rest of the season, on the offensive side, is Jordan W. If Jordan W gives us double-digit production (which she is capable of--see her stats at Western Michigan and last night's performance), as well as her assists and rebounding, and we do not have any off nights from Rickea and Jordan H (she was off her game last night), the LVs can go on a significant run. GBO.
She needs to get in the gym and work on her shooting.

I'm afraid the "U.S.S. Get a Handle On It" ship has sailed. The cat's out of the bag, the unhatched chickens have already been counted, the genie is out of the bottle and the fat lady is singing. Stick a fork in the concept of four-year commitments, it's done.

But seriously, I do agree something needs to change, but I can't imagine how it would be done. With states and universities having so many different ways to handle it, it's unlikely to ever NOT be more advantageous for some than others.

Gee, here we go again... Kara Lawson will never be the coach at Tennessee (not that she'd want to) after the kerfuffles she caused on the BOT. Walz will also never be the coach, either, because of some of the shenanigans he's been involved in the past. He played the Louisville AD, the media, and apparently many of you, by putting out a false story about Tennessee's interest in him.

There was a search for other 'name' coaches and none of them would return our calls. Kellie's run into the Sweet 16 at Mo. St. (While beating Bama to get there) was all that was needed to get the attention of the UTAD.

I still believe she's the coach we need. It takes years of recruiting to get us back where we can be consistent winners. She's got some future talent lined up, but getting the top players consistently will take a bigger NIL purse than we currently have. UConn, South Carolina and LSU are buying players from the high school ranks and the portal that we have competed for.

All of you pitchfork carrying posters calling for her job better be careful of what you wish for - it could be worse. Remember what the football team went through in the last decade.

Nobody is pulling a rabbit out of the hat. Let's support the coaches we have (recruits read social media) and if you really want to help, put your money where your mouth is and donate to the Lady Vol Boost-her Club.

LOL what "analytics" show that? And I disagree, from my unofficial analytics of watching countless hours of basketball from my couch, most coaches still do use timeouts to stop runs...

So, how many #%#&* "Fire Kellie" threads are actually needed to troll up the forum? Three? Six? Ten?

Good grief. We stll have a huge chunk of regular season games plus two tournaments yet to play. If this were the resolve the Allies had shown in WWII, we'd all be speaking German, Japanese, or Italian...the ones whose ancestors were left alive.

Just came across this video from the most recent meeting of the Lady vol segment of Vol Nation. Pretty informative stuff:

Wes Moore isn't interested. He would not even talk to UT when CKH was hired. But ignore the facts to support your agenda.
Fulmer has interviewed LVFL Kelli Harper (Missouri State) and NC State coach Wes Moore. He is believed to have talked to LVFL Kara @karalawson20, who does great job as ESPN commentator.

so disinterested he interviewed.
