Kellie Harper to Missouri

Obviously, I don't know Kelly Harper but I get the impression that she really loves having a positive impact on her players lives (just like her role model PHS). So, I don't think taking some losses is really a detriment in the grand scheme. I think she may, in fact, thrive on being the underdog coach who can upset the big dogs now and again. She is a great coach for a program that needs to over achieve and she might again have success in the portal to periodically narrow the talent gap. Under Kelly, I think Mizzou who has a dangerous team every three or four years (when a senior group jells).
I think thats all correct. Except I don't think it will be 'some losses'. It will be alot of losses by big scores. Unless there's some crazy rich quarterback lined up to support the program financially

As I said before, she just wants to die with the whistle on. Actually refreshing to just want to work with and positively influence young people and be willing to lose alot to do it
A 7 year project? Won’t she give a press conference saying she’s there to win now? She won’t win over fans with those expectations laid out. But glad the board is saying her coaching inabilities out loud now in their own spin now that she’s on someone else’s dime.
The down side of her admirable undertaking. Locking in the meh. But if she's willing to do it I have to stop being more bothered by it than she is.

And I still think w a few breaks and less bad luck, injury, and bad timing Kellie could have been much more than meh here. That line is so fine.

I think Missouri would be happy campers with sweet sixteens every other year. Every program/school says they want to win but if they have a perennial sweet sixteen team that competes and fans in seats, most any school would love that. Top schools want more than that, Missouri I don’t think is EXPECTING that.

Bar gets raised reaching new expectations. Even one as small a S16.

This is the question, I think. IMO Kellie is a good enough coach to keep MO competing for the top half of the league every year with sweet sixteen potential every two or three years, but that may or may not be good enough long term. In any case, I think a school like MO is Kellie's best bet if she wants to coach P4.

Unless she really has learned some new tricks in her off year, that her teams will once again play a slow plodding, offensive style that will struggle mightily to score on a consistent basis. But the thing about old school b-ball is it tends to slow other teams down and Kellie is pretty good at zone defensive schemes that can make it tough for other teams to run their systems. So, I expect that she have a team that is "tough to play" and probably keeps scores low without too many blow-out losses (though I can see your scenario playing out as well).

Next years Missouri v. LV matchup will be a ying and yang clash of styles.

Even though it's painful to remember how it went down, but last season Kellie's team was 1.1 seconds away from beating the eventual national champions. Obviously she had Rickea Jackson last year, but still ...

Harper's methods (and yes, her recruiting, too) did result in her having the third highest winning percentage among SEC coaches, which doesn't suck.

But that was with the best of the best facilities and reputation to offer, tho apparently without adequate $$ at the end.

The possibility of doing that at Mo without big time financial backing seems slim and none.

True. But remember, she also got Missouri State to the Sweet 16.

This thread has brought the same tired voices of those who disparaged Kellie when she was Lady Vols coach and now continue when she becomes coach at Missouri. Feels like a group of busybodies who need someone to downgrade. May I say that no one knows what her future holds. She may lose every game or win every game but it’s her and it’s Missouri. Continuous detriment from the same posters is redundant and not newsworthy. Surely it’s your opinion but repeating it over and over is counterproductive. Whatever she and Missouri do is not conducive to more negativity from this board. Seems she led the Lady Vols to the third best record in the SEC during her tenure which was only surpassed by two Hall of Fame coaches. Every opinion is valid but doesn’t need to be expressed ad infinitum.

Amen.

Kellie will not feel the pressure she did at Tennessee and the expectations won't be as high. This could very well be the perfect landing spot for her.
I actually think there is MORE pressure for her at this job. Maybe not externally in terms of fan and AD expectations, but internally for herself. If this doesn’t work out and she gets fired that’s it for her in major coaching. Three strikes and you’re out usually. If she can’t recruit and stay above .500 she’ll be gone in three years.

That’s real talk.

Don't see getting fired in three years.
Missouri tigers tied for last place SEC regular season games.
One article about Kellie from a article about Missouri said most schools would've been ok with Kellie coaching at Tennessee.
they talked lofty expecting at Tennessee.
Missouri is a total rebuilding mode.

Staying over .500 overall won't be too hard with Mizzou's relatively weak out-of-conference schedule. Staying over .500 in the SEC will be extremely difficult. (Even the Top 20 Lady Vols couldn't do it this year.)
Pingeton did it three times in the last ten years but her overall SEC record was .422. KJH went .660 in the Southern Conference, .442 in the ACC, .722 in the MVC, and .688 in the SEC. Of course the SEC is tougher now than it's ever been.

they will give her time to get her players to mizzou. she won’t finish above .500 in the sec her first couple years (CKC didn’t) but i have no doubt she will finish above .500 overall.
