Kellie Harper to Missouri

Hip hip hooray!
Hip hip hooray!
Hip hip hooray!

Best of luck to the young lady!

Just checking in since a few days.
I read a article in Knoxville newspaper online it says if Kellie Harper got a job Tennessee would get some relief on the buyout.
It didn't say how much.
Think it Knoxville news sentinel not sure on newspaper.
Anyway good luck Kellie Harper.
She always was and still one of my Tennessee lady favorites.

Let's take NIL into account here. NIL became available to players in July of 2021. Kellie came on board Spring of 2019. Technically, she started recruiting to TN for the class of 2020. Given it takes a while to build relationships with players interested in a program like TN (new relationships) I wouldn't have started looking at her recruiting abilities untill the 2021 class and moreso after because of the NIL issue. And, if what's been said is true about lack of competitive funds then I think she did pretty damn well. I like Kim a lot, but Kellie should've been given another year or two with the same funding available now.

Just my 2 cents.

What Kellie should've done when hired to TN is what Kim did. Hire two associate head coaches with established roots in the SEC. Of course, she may not have had the same money available to lure them away as Kim did. But, who knows?
There wasn't in person recruiting for awhile after Kellie was hired COVID-19 restrictions

Harper should do well at Mizzou. The fans will embrace her. She's a players' coach and that's what they're used to. High School recruiting in Missouri is tough, even with the proximity to KC and St. Louis. The Cunningham sisters were an outlier.

If there's some NIL money the portal should actually be easier. A player on another team who doesn't feel they have an opportunity to shine and/or get enough playing time could be a star at Mizzou.

The expectations of Mizzou WBB fans are remarkably different than those of the Lady Vols. There will be a lot less pressure. An upset here or there (and if you check the record Pingeton delivered a bunch of those) and making the Tourney once in awhile will please them.

Several posts here questioned whether Mizzou could ever be more than a “middle-of-the-pack” team in the SEC, and that's probably true. But isn't that how the Lady Vols could be described after a ninth-place finish this year? Mizzou lost to the LV's by 5, Texas by 9, Ole Miss by 2, and Georgia by 2. But their lack of ANY bench strength caused some late-game collapses that provided lopsided final scores in some games. But it's not accurate to say that they can't compete in the SEC. (And didn't they used to say that about Vandy?)

It may take a few years, but at Mizzou, Harper will get them.
Welcome to the LV Forum! 🤗

Misconception that it takes time to build relationships. She was given the Tennessee facilities, the Tennessee brand and struggled closing.

NIL happened after she was struggling to land recruits. It just became the spin to accept her inability to recruit. She would have had the funds had she not coached a 12-37 record verse Top 25 teams.
And, if what's been said is true about lack of competitive funds then I think she did pretty damn well. I like Kim a lot, but Kellie should've been given another year or two with the same funding available now.

General basketball/roaster
Looks like all Missouri players have at least one year left to play.
All 15 spots filled for next year.
Link will get to Missouri site.
then stroll down to women's sports
It's rare that a coaching change doesn't result in a few exits. I'm not sure about Brown's status due to the NCAA rules change re JC play and that would be a big loss. There are several international players on the roster and several players that got very few minutes of PT who may decide to portal out. I'm sure Harper will want to keep Randle, Judd and Slaughter out of the portal.

Would you rather make $180,000 to be the head coach of Tennessee Tech and have to win your conference tournament every year to make the NCAA tournament, or would you rather make $1.2 million at Missouri and be assured to make the NCAA tournament by finishing in the top half of your conference, which is doable with her coaching abilities? I think that’s a pretty easy choice.
I guess it depends on how many 15-25 point losses you're willing to absob while topping out mid conference in a good year. Plus the frustration of watching your team being constantly outmanned no matter how hard you and they work. For me that would be the inner ring of coaching hell.

But I realize thats exactly what KJH has chosen to walk into so I have to stop being more upset about her meh fate than she is.

As far as money, both Harpers have made 6 or 7 figures plus for over 20 yrs. If she's making decisions based on money now something is really wrong w their investment portfolio

On Missouri women's basketball roster on their site.
I click on players bio of some of Missouri roster if player wasn't a graduate class player the site each player a higher class example sophomore to Junior 2024 -2025 2025-2026
They have all Missouri roster listed for 2025-2026 class.

I don’t want to imagine the meltdown here if the LVs lose to MO next season.

For sure it would be epic. Our prolific serial NEGAS are nothing else if not flexible. They are imaginative with their repackaging of their topics of choice.

Only good news is they are still a minority to the composite of the few sunshine pumpers and the vast number of rational fans, that post or pass. But their volume of posts can really distort the makeup of our fanbase to drive by readers. The stadiums and arenas and viewer ratings fortunately display a the more realistic breakdown of our fanbase.

Maybe one day we can all learn to be model fans like you, Guntersvol. Keep the dream alive! 😀

I have always thought he should be sitting in the stands supporting her. I feel that he was the down side of the coaching staff. IMO I don’t believe he would be in the coaching ranks if he wasn’t married to Kellie. I wish her the best
At best a team analyst, a position not on the bench or the road. Agree with the latter.

End of discussion. Coach Caldwell era is in elite mode in year 1.

If he wasn’t married to her, he would be a head coach somewhere. He chose to follow her career, but I think Jon is unfairly criticized and undervalued by a lot of people here who don’t really have any idea about what it’s like to coach basketball.
