Kelly to ....? (Merged)

UCLA/PAC 12 is where Kelly wants to go. He knows the SEC is not the fit for him. I heard he was waiting to see if UCLA opened up. I think he looks at Miami FSU UCF and USF as a challenge in recruiting in Florida and he hates recruiting to began with. In California USC and UCLA are the big dogs who get the top prospects in the state.

You "heard"???!! ... lolol

History has proven the state of Fla has plenty of talent for UF FSU and Miami to all be top programs simultaneously when they all have good coaches

UCF and USF are after thoughts to recruits

I hope he goes to UCLA. But. I also do think he’d rather go there too. But UF would be willing to pay more and money talks so we will see.

No state income tax in fla will win out in the end

Chip supposed to receive a lot money from NFL teams and his next employer

Seems like that should be a big deal and a lot of extra money over the years

I don't think UCLA can outbid Florida, and I also think there could be issue with paying UCLA assistant coaches a competitive salary to account for LA's cost of living.

If Kelly simply wants to go back out west, that's one thing. If he's truly undecided and is weighing his options, anyone paying attention can see Florida is a better gig than UCLA.

If we lose Kelly to UCLA, then it's full court press time on Scott Frost with Dan Mullen as a backup.

UCLA has been relevant in the last 20 years, when?
I think that program has been and always will be a stepchild to USC.

However I would not be surprised to see Kelly take that job if the offer is good. He's a west coast kinda guy.

Kelly at Fla would be like UT hiring Chris Petersen, great coach. Probably zero connections in the east/south.

FL is undeniably the better job from a football perspective. But familiarity with the PAC 12 and preference for living on the West Coast could play major factors.

Questions are:

A) Is Kelly equally satisfied with either job and simply trying to drive up his price?

B) Did/does he have an agreement in principle with IF already?

C) If the answers to A & B are ‘yes,’ does that irritate Stricklin enough to move on?

Not trying to be a SA, but just because he had his greatest success at Oregon doesn't mean he's a "West Coast Guy". Dude is from freaking New Hampshire.

A) Maybe
B) Yes, if past or present tense applies.
C) No, it's not as if Stricklin can reach out to Mullen or Frost until their respective seasons are over.

I wonder how ucla facilities are UF will have almost all new stuff here pretty soon including the most important thing to recruits new dorms

Can ucla spend what chip wants on assistants and support staff?

I really hope not but we shall see

Also no state income tax in fla and with all that money he'll be getting from NFL teams and his new employer that's a big deal imo probably millions extra oh ya and cost of living is so much cheaper in Gainesville vs LA and chip don't exactly seem like the big city type living in New Hampshire

Obviously I'm trying to convince myself here lol but there's a lot of reasons to pick UF

Mods on gatorbait must be keeping hope alive and well because it's another thread today with a **** ton of likes

I would think that we should start having some answers as soon as today on what’s what.

If we haven’t heard anything definitive within the next 24 hours, you may see UF head in the Scott Frost direction again.

What we do know is that UF has an offer on the table and there are some reports out there that it’s already signed by Kelly. If so, I would think UF has no reason to wait on announcing. If Kelly hasn’t signed the contract and is in fact waiting to hear from UCLA, then we’ll see this drag out to later in the week.

Kelly knows the Florida program is the better program, he knows he can will it all there, he knows it could get him back to the NFL pretty quick.

Yet he stays to listen to UCLA..........

I hope Chip Kelly goes to UCLA. Not because I think he will be a good coach, but because I want to enjoy the Gruden like meltdown on their message boards. lol they are obsessed with Chip right now.

It'd be a blessing in disguise for him. I don't think Kelly is a good fit at Florida, Tennessee, or any SEC school.

UF goes 0-12 next year?

UCLA wins the national title, beating Dan Mullen's Tennessee Vols on a controversial instant replay overturned call.

Some coaches prefer the fanbase who is more passionate about winning.
Some coaches prefer to avoid the fishbowl that comes with that.

I actually wonder if Kelly’s agent orchestrated the whole thing with Mora. UCLA is 5-6 with only Cal left to beat to get bowl eligible. They didn’t get blown out by #11 USC. Cal should be beatable and they go bowling.

Why add all this turmoil unless they had information that “their guy” was about to be off the market.

Timing seems strange. Why not just wait one more week looking at their situation. Is Sexton just working on a bidding war to up UFs ante?

These questions and more will be answered on the next “As the Coaching Carousel Turns”!
