It was the end of the play with the continued effort well out of bounds that led to the injury and should have been a penalty.
Look at tacklers feet. In bounds, his feet left the ground. He can't be called for continuing if his feet aren't touching. No way to drive him. I think they just slid on that one. Plenty of other awful no calls...just don't think this particular play was 1 of em
Couldn't disagree more. Contact was on green grass. I know refs have been bad but the initial contact was in the field of play. And the NU guy was off the ground so he couldn't have driven him.
The initial shove out of bounds was fine. If you watch the replay, after pushing him out of bounds, he pulls the player down and slams on top if him well out of bounds. That pull required an additional effort by the defender and it occurred well out of bounds.
Thats a huge reach. Falling and landing is what I see. Not slamming. Had his feet been on the ground i might agree. But he cant possibly drive him if he has no leverage to do so.
Really disappointed with Stoops' response there, that was the perfect opportunity to justifiably blast the officiating. Instead it looked like he got disciplined before he came out.
