Kiffin Class: And Then There Were Three

He took Crompton from a below average SEC QB to a fourth round draft pick. You really think Crompton gets drafted if Dave Clawson is caliing plays? And where do those nine wins come from?

We obviously beat Alabama and Florida.

After all, if the previous years proved anything, they proved that Saban and Meyer were Fulmer's biotches

He had Crompton and brought in Bray.
He had the Sullins brothers and brought in James.
He had Poole and brought in Brown.
He had (Todd) Campbell and brought in Hunter.

Another thing many people aren't discussing about this is that Kiffin didn't redshirt many people. We didn't have enough players to redshirt. There's a reason there are only 3 left.

How many of the senior starters on the current team were committed to Tennessee because of Kiffin? A lot.

Don't forget about AJ Johnson who committed here when Kiffin was coach. Or Zach Fulton for that matter.

While some redshirt seniors may be gone from a class that didn't redshirt hardly anyone, some of Kiffin's best players from the '10 commits are still here and ready to make major impacts.

Yeah and all those great offensive lineman that Kiffin "ran off." You know Darris Sawtelle who was second string at Grand Valley State, and Ramone Johnson, and lets not forget the genius Preston Bailey who got busted starting a drug ring with his scholly money while at MTSU. Yeah Fulmer would have had this program rolling.

Here's another one that's gone but not forgotten. He's the stain on the under ware of humanity. :puke5:

I thought so too..but Haden said that he was not even considering making a change..now that could be for stability and recruiting..but he seemed to go so far that it would look badly on him if he fired him after this year

USC AD Pat Haden: Lane Kiffin 'is not' on the hot seat - CBSSports.com

Eh, you can't come out and say you don't support your coach, as the AD, that hurts his image, because his boss doesn't even believe in him, then the fanbase and players lose respect. While Haden says this, he probably truly believes it can turn around and Kiffin is the guy, but it is nothing more than a bet he thinks he has good odds of winning. If he wins the 'bet' that Kiffin doesn't fail, then he's great, everyone looks at him like he supported Kiffin and is praised for management. If Kiffin loses this year, depending on how bad of a failure it is, he'll just fire him and move on. It's just "AD Speak".

"I think this, we're not young anymore in football. We're not young anymore. While it is realistic and it is factual to say that we have fielded an inexperienced team the last year or two, we're not going to field inexperienced teams anymore. Those are the kinds of things you have to sit down, talk about and assess. I have thoroughly enjoyed Derek Dooley. I think Derek Dooley has the skill sets to be a highly successful coach." -Hart December 2011 after the Kentucky loss. I mean, we all know there was nothing to 'Enjoy' about Dooley.

Of course we win nine with Fulmer. It was a nine win team.

LOL. You say that with a straight face? Wow.

Did the 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008 seasons lead to that conclusion? 9 wins would be hella overachieving with that 2009 squad. Fulmer overachieved exactly once in 16 seasons, 2004.

With the trend he had running he would have been the first Tennessee coach ever to have the distinction on losing 8 games in a season.

Looking back, who did more damage to the program across the board? It ain't even close. Lane was the second coming of the General compared to that dumb ass with black George Jones hair. Matter of fact, George's hair looked better than Dooley's. Granted, I don't like the way Lane ended the honeymoon but at least the players liked him and put out some f%*$#n effort for him. Years from now as we look back on the dark period, it will much more Dooley AND Fulmer who caused so much heartache, not Lane Kiffin. I'm full Butch, don't get me wrong, but put the blame where it really needs to go. Go Vols.

and people still take up for him. At this time last year, he had the #1 team, and used his great coaching to take them to finishing outside the top 25 and every team they played looked like Ole Miss did that day in Oxford against UT

"but Haden said"? Neighbor, what Pat Haden said was purely what I like to call "AD speak". He can say Kiffin is not on the hot seat all he wants. If the Trojan's season goes south again, he will, on one bright and shiny Southern California Monday morning in the near future, be holding a press conference similar to the one Dave Hart made. There will be statements like, "change in direction for our football program." Even if Kiffin shattered many breakable objects and threw a tantrum, he "accepted the decision with dignity, and his greatest concern is for the players." He will name an interm head coach among the assistants if the season isn't over, and discuss how he will handle the search. And once the press conference is on YouTube, we will be playing it, and comparing it to Hart's presser about Dooley.

Bottom line: Haden will support him, until he can't. That is what athletic directors do. The only question is how many losses Haden and the USC boosters will tolerate. His seat is hotter right now than Dooley's was this time last year. Scalding hot!

I hope this doesn't happen. I just want to be able to sit with a bunch of other rabid Vol fans at a sports bar in the near future, and watch as Kiffy and his Trojans face and get humiliated by Butch Jones and our own Tennessee Volunteers.

And before anyone tells me to move on, friends, I have. However, if anyone out there doesn't hope for that day in their heart of hearts to come, are you really a true Vols fan? Let's be honest, WE WANT THAT. PERIOD.

The odd thing about AD speak, like "President speak" is that the sheer fact that you are having to address a supposed non-issue actually makes the issue even more real.

you don't pay $4mil per year for a filler

To play devil's advocate, USC is a private school and I can't find any official numbers supporting your assertion that Kiff actually makes 4 million a year. Everything I read is pure speculation, but maybe you have seen something I haven't?

Let us not forget that Kiffin had the NCAA sniffing around as well. I like watching him fail at USC because he left us in a lurch and we landed Derek Dooley because of the timing, not because I thought he was a bad coach. He was a great hire at the time and a terrible hire in hindsight.

You were right except for this. Hart came as close as an AD ever will to saying that "We gave you a pass but you better get it tightened up now" in public.

No... we all really don't know this though. He failed as a HC at UT which is the only thing we really care about.... but we do not know there was nothing to enjoy about Dooley. I am not entirely certain why so many here insist that Dooley was a failure at everything as well as being the devil incarnate to boot just because he made a really stupid decision with Sal and the 3-4 and could not win games. His failures as a gameday coach plus an incredibly stupid, STUPID DC hire... doesn't mean DD didn't recruit any good players or didn't have some other value to the program.

In the end though, we really don't care if he was a charming and popular guy or not... we just want to see wins. If he had won 10 games as he should have last fall then not a soul would care that a few HS coaches complained or if office staff were said to dislike him or if the alumni had all the access they wanted.

Hart by all indications would have kept Dooley with one more win... against anyone. That would have been terrible for the program but it appears to be true. Obviously he saw something that continued to give him hope that DD would eventually turn the corner.

Good thing Dooley lost all those games then. Despite the embarrassment of another 5-7 its nice to have hope again with CBJ.
