Kiffin's firing should send a signal to Butch about...

....about the current recruiting class (and beyond). The losses USC experienced has caused recruits to drop like flies. To keep this (UT) class fairly intact and/or build on it, he and the staff are going to HAVE to work some magic these next few weeks, and beat expectations....which are lower now than they were before we started losing.

One has nothing to do with the other. Lane Kiffin lost recruits at USC because his job security was in question for months before he was fired. Kids don't go to places where they don't know who their coach is going to be. It doesn't help that USC has the talent to be better.

Butch has had success in recruiting so far because he can promise immediate playing time. We suck. We don't have enough talent to beat anyone good in the SEC. They're not coming here because we're good, or because they expect us to become good this season.

And here's a reality check for you: Tennessee has won the games it was expected to win so far, and lost the games it was expected to lose so far. No one in their right mind expected UT to beat Oregon or Florida. If anything, we did better against Florida than should have been expected.

The point is, if CBJ wants to keep this class intact, with a Top 5-10 finish, he needs to show some promise on the field.
With what?
do you really think Butch's sales pitch to recruits was come join a winning program?
More like, come help us restore a legendary program to greatness.
Every game reinforces the NEED.

You can sell only so many promises. Many will want to see SOME tangible improvement on in this team, and right now, there doesn't appear to be any, except on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm hoping against hope that Worley can have a breakout game against UGA like Crompton did a few years ago, but I'm not counting on it. Not playing one of the freshman, at all...doesn't show recruits...especially the receivers, that there is much hope for the future. So, he REALLY needs to show something there...going to HAVE to burn one of their redshirts to do that.

There is no comparison between the two. Kiffin walked into a team loaded in 5 star recruits and is in one of the most fertile recruiting areas of the country and while he does have scholarship reductions his classes have still been highly rated.

Jones walked into a team that has had he worst 4 years of recruiting at any time of the program. Kiffins class that should be seniors this year are all gone and the players that Dooley got it right with left for the NFL.

I can't see any reason Coach Jones should see Kiffin's firing as a message. If there is any message, it is one to the entire coaching world. If you can't coach as in Limberlipped Lane's case you will get fired eventually.

Limberlipped Lane's exodus from coaching was well deserved.

You can scoff now, all you want to, but if the QB situation doesn't at least show a little promise for the future, then we can expect a number of the current commits (on offense, at least) to drop out of the picture.

We are still trying to land Malone, and I don't see any chance of us landing him if the QB position is stuck in the doldrums.

The only meaningful connection between Kiffin and Jones is that less than five players signed by kiffin are still on Tennessee's team this year. This i also one of the prime reasons we have such a talent deficient this year. I admit that Dooley did not leave many SEC caliber players either.

Not to mention the one that got away...er...Kiffin shooed away, Taj Boyd.
Ohhh, to have Taj Boyd in CBJ's system.

Shut up. I know the past is past.

butch started with a 2004 ford focus with a bad transmission, old tires and leaking oil.

Dude. Butch and Kiffin's situations are completely different. Kiffin had a stable program to walk into. Butch is literally rebuilding a program. I don't think Kiffin's falter has any impact or foreshadowing that Butch should even care about or worry over. Kiffin's classes still had players that are better than the majority. California's three stars are better than most states' 5 stars. Kiffin lost his job because he couldn't coach up players and he didn't recruit a QB.

Kiffin's situation was probably better than Butch's talent wise but it was by no means stable. It was just like when Dooley took over here, 4-5 guys turned down USC before Kiffin got called because no one wanted to touch it with what was coming.

Swwwwiiiing and a miss! Two totally different situations. Butch could only have dreamed to walk into the talent that was waiting for Kiffin at SC. Not even close.

Recruits making verbal commitments to USC have vastly different expectations than our recruits. The kids coming here know they are coming to rebuild a program. The kids wanting to go to USC expect(ed) to walk into a well oiled winning machine.

With uga showing out I fully expect him to go there anyway...

There is no hidden meaning, but mounting losses and near misses to teams you should beat handily WILL hurt recruiting. It did to Kiffin, and it WILL hurt CBJ if this team doesn't improve even a little over the past few years.

Saban lost ULMonroe. Didnt hurt his recruiting to bad.

Your post is utter nonsense. Why would receivers be worried about Freshmen QB's not playing?

How many Freshmen receivers are playing 4-5. Your post so nonsensical that I'm sorry I responded!!

We are 3_2 just like we thought we would be. What is going to hurt recruiting is when people get on here bash the coach and start stupid threads about losing confidence in a coach 5 games.

yeah I agree, Kiffin was loaded with talent & we are loaded with nothing.
