Her time has past, and she announced a few years back that she was retired from coaching, anyway.I'd be excited about Goestenkors. Posted about that just now before I saw your post.
She wasn't retired. She was on staff with Elzy until Elzy got canned a few weeks ago. TX was in decline and it was a mistake for her to leave Duke to jump into the post Conradt phase. Rick Barnes also was subpar at TX (see image) before coming to UT and look what he has done. I think she still could be great. Her time has past, and she announced a few years back that she was retired from coaching, anyway.
She left Duke, went to Texas, and produced the same kind of results there that we just fired KJH for producing. Texas didn't fire her, but she basically fired herself.
A few years later, when Duke came open, she tried to go back there and got in a huff when they wouldn't even grant her an interview. Did a few years as an assistant at UK, and probably did Kyra Elzy's coaching for her. As soon as Goestenkors retired, Elzy stopped winning.
Respectfully, you speak as someone with inside knowledge. Is this legit?Three. I think the reach candidate is A+, but long odds- maybe a one in three chance. They have expressed an interest in making her the highest paid women’s coach, with upside. Maybe she’ll listen. The other two are impressive, and an upgrade and both very interested as their agents reached out to us. It’s perceived that enough time has passed that someone can take the job and not be following Pat. Molly is not on the list of three. I think White will get this right.

People say a proven coach wouldn’t come here to “rebuild”, but a rebuild on college sports isn’t as he’d as it used to be due to the portal. Also, coaches like Mulkey, Saban, Calipari didn’t have to rebuild. Cal took his recruiting class with him to Kentucky. People say Gotlieb wouldn’t come because of her recurring class, as if she couldn’t bring them or current players with her. Mulkey had LSU going pretty quickly because she was a proven coach with name recognition. If DW is talking to big name/proven coaches, they won’t be scared away due to a “rebuild”, because they’d isntently add new players via the portal or their commitments at their previous school.
Also, compare cost of living in Knoxville with a place like LA. 1.5- 2 million a year here goes much further.
He doesn’t know any more than the rest of us.@Stoerner Fumbles when will this hire happen like this week or next
Rick Barnes wasn't great at TX in his last few years before coming to TN (see image), but he's a great coach. Look what he's done. I think Gail could be similar.Goestenkors is done. Not only did she produce Kellie Harper results at Texas but more recently she couldn't even stick as an assistant coach in the W and at multiple schools.
Yep. Granted, coaches with that kind of power/influence are rare, and I have no idea if UT will land one, I’m just saying that if they turned this job down, it’s not for that reason.Yeah Kim showed the women’s basketball world that if you’ve got it, it travels. Year two baby, she wasn’t playin around.
I'll give you half a dozen LA college kids, who've recently put their own school on the WBB map. Convince them to move to Knoxville, TN.People say Gotlieb wouldn’t come because of her recurring class, as if she couldn’t bring them or current players with her.
Easy, I'll answer for him. Dawn Staley.Rooster who would u be the most scared for TN to hire?
Did White personally tell you the “short list”? Did he forbid you from telling anyone else? Did you two have a few beers afterwards?Geno and Walz did have great runs. Staley and Mulkey are currently better. I'm talking about now and best. Brooks is another good coach. No qualm with that. I’m saying the hire will not require a compromise to get the best and also get a woman. I’ve heard the short list and it’s not something we’ll see as a compromise if we get anyone on that list.
Some more stuff White shared with you? You are such a connected dude.Three. I think the reach candidate is A+, but long odds- maybe a one in three chance.
