Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

NIL exists here for the Lady Vols. Kellie refused to play ball. Even after the recent court ruling made it possible to speak about it openly. This is coming from the parents of recruits. They were frustrated/stonewalled when they mentioned it. Other schools mention it.
Play ball sounds like not follow the rules. Hopefully the rules are changing but Kellie and staff should not be criticized for following NCAA rules at the time they were recruiting. Wasn’t Pruitt enough of a problem?

We just got “the rules” thrown out in court. There are functionally no rules on NIL right now.

“Embraces NIL”.? Kellie didn’t have any serious NIL to embrace. Will be interesting to see if DW bothers to find some when the new coach gets here.
NIL isn't actually on DW. He doesn't control it. In fact, it probably digs into his donations received for facility upgrades. NIL comes from boosters. If anything, it falls more on the coaches of individual programs to schmooze more for their players. To encourage boosters to help them out.

Regardless of the Caitlin Clark effect, Kellie was going to be on the hot seat. Even as an ardent Kellie supporter, her five years at the helm did not include a single title or produce tangible evidence that the program was trending toward being a NC contender. I was one of many who embraced the justifications (or excuses as others would say) for this state of affairs -- injuries, NIL and so on. But, I think the deathknell was the fact that the program took a tangible step back from the preceding season- lower conference finish, not as far in the SEC tournament, and missing the S16). Kellie did have enough wins capital to survive a regressive season.

I think a steady state-- doing as well last season--would have likely kept Kellie in the job. I don't think any AD would want the blowback of firing a coach that had taken her team to 3 straight S16s and finished 3rd in the toughest conference in the country. Actually, I predicted that Kellie would be in real jeopardy if the team did not reach those benchmarks (and I was convinced that they would go further).

My personal view is that the rising ratings for WCBB had zilch to do with her dismissal but my guess is no better than yours.

But, given that Kellie has been fired, it does seem like dancing on the grave to keep coming back with "THIS is the reason Kellie got fired".

You seem really thin skinned. You like to throw a stone and then whine, "what I was not throwing that stone!!. I merely tossed it., When I throw a stone you will know it!!" (Oohh SOOO Scary!!).

Anyway, youngin' you do you. I promise not respond to any of your future posts.
The gloating is pretty disgusting and yes terrifically thin skinned.

I always suspected this. If true, she was doomed from the start and should have been replaced sooner.

I understand but that is a very recent change. Kellie “embraced” NIL as much as she could within the framework that existed at that time.

bye.

Gottlieb has #1 recruiting class coming in at USC and JuJu Watkins.

ZERO chance she leaves that gold mine for Tennessee.
Well I wouldn't.
You at least call her IMO. All of this "she would never come" hoopla, in the words of Wayne Gretzky, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Always suspected she followed the rules? How awful!!
Try and apply rational thought here. She really wanted great recruits why would she not do everything in her power to get them within the NCAA rules that existed at that time?

Thank you. I appreciate it. I tired to treat Kellie with grace, even in criticism, because she deserved that for many reasons. I wish her the best. I am also extremely excited for the future of Lady Vol basketball. I understand that's not a congruent position for some folks, but it doesn't make me a villain.
🤮

wow. Did not know this.

Then she have been fired way before now. That’s the stubbornness and know it all she thinks she is then. Nobody to blame but herself

Maybe some of the posters follow Kellie where she goes away from here

Careful now... don't dance on her grave. That's not nice!

She wasn't getting canned before this year (unless she missed the tournament last year and there would have been a lot of pressure to let her go). I do wonder why the unwillingness to use NIL. Sounds like she was trying to use the history of the brand as the motivating factor for getting recruits.. and there's no shame in that. Rick Barnes looks for a certain "type" of player and it has worked for him. It's just odd, given her reliance on the portal, you would think she would have been more pro-NIL. I'm interested to hear more about this as more info gets out in the weeks and months to come.
