Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

I love the Becky hammon idea but im not sure she can recruit shes never had to . Shes a pro's coach and i dont want to accept the Nicki Collen theory how she came from the pros to Baylor's resurgence she had stints in the college game already. Becky has none .

If the AD doesn't see a turnaround in the next few seasons then I've badly misunderstood this whole process. Pretty sure we;ve heard over and over that's the whole purpose. No more 5 years and fingers crossed plans. We had the best one of those anyone is ever likely to have.
I was referring to the next few years if Harper was retained. Her first 5 years at UT we’re much better than the first 5 years of Colo under their current coach…and yet she did have a decent 3 year run thereafter.

Let's get the bag together so we can try and buy a better team, people! Let's throw some cash--big cash--at some players so we can win games. Oh, what a sad thing college sports has become. Throwing cash at kids--many of whom probably barely made it out of public high school academically--because they can play basketball. And many won't even become good college players. Call them pros and give their scholarship money to real, needy students.

Ur right. That’s y I said Payne is a lateral hire for us. The only advantage over Kellie is her lack of connection to the program or Pat. The pressure isn’t the same.

Also coming from the PAC 12 gives her a lot of experience vs ranked teams.

There were 3 major coaching openings so far in WBB this season

Va Tech after Brooks departed for Kentucky, now filled by Megan Duffy of Marquette.

Miami job currently open after Katie Meier announced her retirement.

Tennessee position opened after the termination of Kellie Harper.

Marquette is also a nice job so I’d add that to the list now with Duffy moving on/up.

Based on subtle signs it seems like something might happen with Colorado, Oregon State and ????

Be really interesting to see who ends up where.

That is literally the first time I've ever heard that KJH was reluctant on NIL. Hated every min of the Rickea Mercedes deal? She was there practically dancing! In fact, the staff has been begging for NIL help. Why wouldn't they? Why would KJH or any other functioning coach not want to go there on' NIL? That makes zero sense. If you mean the donors were stonewalling her, apparently that was true. But def not the other way around. Please don't add this to her sin list.
New fan fiction. Kellie hated NIL (and cute puppies, what a monster) .

True Smesko always runs around to P5 coaching searches yearly for the last 10 years… and still at FGCU

I don’t think he’ll ever leave the mid-major ranks. He knows where he’s got it good. With his style of play that’s where he needs to stay.

Cam Newbauer had a similar style and it did not translate well at all to a higher level. There were obviously other things at play there, but that situation developed due an inability to win games.

The difference with Adia Barnes and Lisa Fortier having husbands on their staffs, is both husbands actually bring a wealth of playing and coaching experience at various places on their own. Jon Harper got married to Kellie as a manager at Auburn and followed her along every where she’s been. He has nowhere near the experience either one of the two husbands mentioned above have, both playing and coaching wise

I’m winning 30 games a year completing against ranked team and on the beach. No pressure just vibes. Not leaving.

I’m sure Insell had many chances to leave MTSU but knows his lane too.

Well he has been in the game pretty long now. Idg the Jon bashing. I think there’s other issues…

Don’t forget Ralph’s husband at Vandy.

Ok, you said the exact words that were in my head several times yesterday but for a totally different reason.

The post that described the Lady Vol Mafia

A complicated mix of sturdy women and blue hairs.

My instant thought was, “God, I wonder if there is ever any crossover between those two groups, talk about some weird Lady Vol fan fiction.” 😂

Let me see if I got this right….

Lucy: It’s disgusting when people hold Kellie Harper to a/their high standard.

Also Lucy: I am disgusted with _______ and am holding them to a/my high standard.

Insert any of the following:
Danny White
Rick Barnes
Tony Vitello
Orange (who apparently works in the AD because of his eloquent speech)
probably the new coach who won’t be good enough if not Dawn, Kim, Geno, etc.

How is this different? Lol. FTR, I think It’s all gonna workout in the long run and you can begin disparaging the new coach as soon as their hired to get back at everyone.

Go Lady Vols!!

What is the story about Kara Lawson at Duke? I actually went to school and had a class with her. She seems like a great option and is a VFL. Duke fans are worried based on chats that I saw and she has Duke doing well.

If she was brought up already, I apologize. I haven't read all 44 pages of this thread.

Correct. Shea’s husband as well, but I mentioned those two since they’ve been brought up multiple times and I’m familiar with their resumes .

I personally think he was the weak link on the coaching staff and wish he’d been replaced. Joy and Sam are great assistants and their track records prove that.

What’s joys track record?

One thing I know for sure: When the new coach is announced, fans on message boards/social media need to be either instantly publicly supportive, or instantly publicly silent about it if they're underwhelmed. It will be too late to do anything about it, anyway, so if people were to go nuts putting down the new coach or doubting she/he will do a great job, it will be best for the program to keep that opinion to themselves. At least for a few months while the program is particularly vulnerable and in need of extra support and extra confidence from players.

If you secretly hate the Tennessee Lady Vols, then by all means, poison the well by harshly criticizing White's choice.

i sure hope people have more sense than that. 🧡
Wise words that I hope will be heeded. The Kellie train has left the station and its time to get on the new one when it arrives.

I worry that those pushing its gotta be Wes Moore, Jeff Walz, Becky Hammon big fish narrative will again get vindictive if the actual hire differs from their imagined perfect coach. Perhaps, the third time, we can have at least initially, more of a supportive consensus.
