My tin-foil gifs weren't entirely devoid of comedy value, either, imo. But I'm happy to just move forward.Well you may not have appreciated my “rant” but you’ve got to admit the mental picture of a new coach bringing a unicorn to work has some comedy value.
She's near the top of my list, if not the top... maybe my favorite optionFortier for sure.
I know who it is. I was making a point about the political thing that was mentioned as potentially being a turn off for someone who was more progressive.(which I doubt would been matter to a top coach for a job like this)
I wasn’t commenting on her job performance or taking a dig at her at all, was just saying that I don’t think the political landscape in Knoxville is exactly as was portrayed by poster I responded to and that I don’t think it would be a factor for a coach from a place like L.A. Also, as you pointed out, a mayor with a good relationship with the university I think would alleviate those concerns as well. Although I really doubt coaches would be hindered by politics of the region anyway.I see. Well, politics aside, she's doing a good job, and all that matters for purposes here, to the best of my knowledge, she has a great relationship with UT and Randy Boyd.

No problem!I agree with ya. I ain’t sure what political climate would have to do with hiring a coach. It certainly hasn’t stopped the baseball or football teams from getting massive stadium upgrades. I came late to the party, I was just curious what the “political climate” had to do with anything. Thanks for getting me up to speed.
GBO!!!
It's transparent when people like you start sh-t and then -- when they are called out for it and their nerve is hammered -- respond like you just did: dodging the facts of the matter and preening. Thanks. You're missing out on the kum ba ya moment, btw. But just as well.Hit a nerve? Argue with someone else, I’ve just put you on ignore.
I am so sorry that I was unclear that this list was just a sampling from the many claims by the “fahr Kellie” crowd. So tell me the importance of whether four people said we would hire a top five coach and nine said it would be a home run hire and seven said we would hire a coach with final four experience and of those seven three also said the new coach would bring a unicorn with them.
The problem for those folks is that DW is not going to be able to deliver on all of their fevered dreams. But not to worry, the goal posts are moving as we speak. Most have now figured out Dawn is not walking through the door and that JuJu Watkins will remain in LA.. I anticipate the hire to be generally comparable to Kellie with perhaps a couple of good years recently.
Regarding the athletic department and your connection with it. The mere fact that you would assert the employees there give their all for Tennessee confirms to me you are employed there or are the spouse of an employee.
I am not at all casting dispersions on those fine folks but they are employees of the university. They are not student athletes putting their blood sweat and tears into their sport and teammates.
Employees are giving their all, or probably around 85% truth be known, for their paychecks.
Is there a single person in the athletic department that would not be out the door for a 30% raise? I hope not because that would mean they are not very bright and don’t care about making a better life for their family. Do they love UT sports? Sure they do but let’s not romanticize their devotion. I’m sure DW is having a ball being the AD at UT. If Michigan offered him $500k more a year he would take it. Anyone would.
Perhaps you should calm down about this. Also my friend Rooster has gone fishing.
Well said, @CarpI don't think you quite understand how NIL works. NIL has zero to do with the program/school. It's about the athletes ability to make money off their popularity through endorsements, social media, etc. Now do schools use it as a tool for recruiting? Of course they do. But that's no fault of the student athlete. They deserve to make as much money of their popularity as they can.
There was famously a kicker in 2017 (at UCF of all places) who became a well known YouTuber and was making a good bit of money from his YouTube page. Quite clearly he wasn't famous for kicking, but that didn't stop the NCAA from stripping his eligibility. And that's straight bull ****. Anyone should have the ability to make money off their popularity without the NCAA having a say.
Not sure why anyone would be arguing with you about this point. This board has been nothing but wild eyed speculation and unrealistic expectations about Danny white's offer to make Dawn Staley, Becky Hammon, etc. offers they can't refuse
We have one dude who is proclaiming that if Danny White wants Lindsay Gottlieb he will get her. I guess she must be orderable on Amazon and lacks freewill.
But there is a lot of Danny just needs to roll out the brinks truck, which presumes that UTAD is considerably wealthier with other power 5 competitors (they ain't) and that coaches will easily bail on their programs. Why would, for example, Gottlieb walk away from USC, JuJu, a #! recruiting class, the huge donor base that is linked to Southern Cal, and the massive media market of LA to do a rebuild in East Tennessee? That decision would be simply insane and she would be immediately institutionalized if she accepted the offer.
A while back I mentioned the Oregon St. coach, Scott Rueck as one possible candidate. In contrast to USC, Oregon St is underfunded. Oregon State is not a high profile school and Corvalis is the armpit of the Pacific Northwest. I saw on twitter that several oregon st. players have entered the transfer portal which seems kind of suggestive. Rueck has a really good record, with several S16s and one elite 8 across his two schools. Not exactly "a big fish" but a clear resume upgrade over Kellie and he would raise hopes that he could do better with the (newfound) resources and cachet of the LV program.
So, I putting some $ on Rueck as the pending hire.....
Last year, OR ST (Rueck) had a losing season. This year, they made the Elite Eight, but the 2 years before, they did not make the NCAA Tournament. Very up and down, maybe because had a good player this year? I wouldn’t want him. Last 5 years, finished 5th, 5th, 8th, 10th, and 4th in his conference. Not sure why anyone would be arguing with you about this point. This board has been nothing but wild eyed speculation and unrealistic expectations about Danny white's offer to make Dawn Staley, Becky Hammon, etc. offers they can't refuse

I was trying to calm down the overreactions on both sides, as you know. You noticed my posts about it (#1,593, for example), and also my posts honoring Kellie. I haven't made a single wild speculation, and I think they are counterproductive. But when people do it, it's not DW's fault. He is doing the opposite. His statement was very measured, and he is correctly avoiding all sorts of damaging leaks. He can't stop the media clickbating. I'm not trying to stir anything up in this post, just letting you know how I feel. I don't like people acting like there is a conspiracy against the LVs when all of Vol-dom is hoping for the best outcome and the brightest future possible. As to the particular situation, I thought Lucy was exaggerating. Lucy thought I was focusing on the literal meaning of her words, while missing her point. And we both made some jokes. I really was trying to say something about the literal meaning of the words because I thought she was just going to provoke more exagerations from the other "camp," so to speak. I just made it worse. She prolly sees this somewhat differently, but I think she would agree that's in the ballpark. If I had it to do it over again, I would express myself much differently. I really think a lot of board disputes wouldn't arise in in-person conversation. But we're both cool now, insofar as I know. Kumbaya moment. At any rate, I think this new beginning with the LVs will create optimism that will attract large and small donors. And more attention. I understand that other people are more worried. My pet peeve, I suppose, is people dissing our AD and other UT programs, which pits any of our teams against any other(s). I think DW is a forthright "everything school" guy, and I think that is exactly what we are seeing. If you remember that graphic that I posted recently (#1,588), we are already making more headway at that, and faster, than any school in the country. I thought (but I guess I was wrong) that LV-first fans would really like DW for that push. I don't think we are going to fail with LV Basketball. Coaching-hire drama is not to my taste, I admit. So I think I will head out. Best wishes for our future. Not sure why anyone would be arguing with you about this point. I know it’s not her or it shouldn’t be just said that because of the poster said someone from Las Vegas. We in trouble if that’s the best we can getMan I like her but… doesn’t seem appropriate
What’s funny is how the Alex Simmons hype died down.
Like what would happen to Molly Miller or Marshall’s coach (Johnson I think) if she took a half decent conference job…
Tbh the Gardner Webb vs Utah game was pretty fun
Too bad Molly Miller can never get there
But to the point that UNLV way underperformed based on their “rank” and NET
