If Clinton really believed what he did at the time he signed DOMA and his rational for that belief was his faith, then yes his beliefs were in common with the beliefs of Westboro.

Once you regress the question as to why "one man and one woman" is the only acceptable form of marriage to christians - it should be pretty clear what the common source of that belief is.

Super simple stuff amirite?

black and white eh?

Jesse Jackson makes an anti-semitic comment and therefore he is in common belief with Nazis and Hitler thus it's makes perfect sense to compare him to Nazis.

You are proving one of my points - it's not enough to disagree with this woman's actions. To be "intellectually honest" one must ascribe the absolute worst motives to her and compare her to the worst of society.

As I suggested earlier; Westboro references are the new version of Godwin's Law

I haven't ever done either, but I would fit in better as an adulterer. Do homosexuals not do adultery too, or are they all monogamous?

That's what I figured you were getting at.

But I was going to give you a fair shake, unlike you ever give anyone else.

Stupid analysis from you once again.

What it most be like to live in your world. I'd give a dime to know.

Ok prof, why is it a "stupid analysis"?

I'm about to Donald Trump your rear:

You're having a hard time. You're looking very bad tonight.

Yes, she's a hypocrite. Stop trying to manipulate your bizarre personal opinion on same-sex marriage and this woman's behavior to meet your pre-conceived ideas.

I'm going to guess you didn't think your analogy through very well.

Yes, a former smoker is a hypocrite if he or she denies another smoker the access to smoke and then goes on to lecture them about how bad smoking is. He or she can disagree with it and express that opinion. And that's fine. That's not hypocritical. But to deny a smoker access when you had it, would be.

You can't do something, change your mind, then deny other people said something.

That's cheap.

The fact that you defend such a low-life says a lot about you.

Says that you're never willing to compromise on anything and only believe in your dogma, despite any new evidence.
My "bizarre personal opinion on same-sex marriage?" I am defending her because I think that it is a joke that people get bent out of shape over this. If I wanted a marriage license, I would take my ass to the next county. I don't feel the need to spike the football in the face of the person that loses.

I already asked this once:

A) Why should they be forced to drive to another county? And why is it considered "spiking the football" to ask her to do her effin' job? And if she lost, why is she getting to act like she didn't?

B) What if the person in the next county feels the exact same way? You think they should have to just keep driving?

That

A) I previously said that she should step down, and let someone else do the job if she doesn't want to follow the law, but should be paid for the term because the rules changed. She didn't sign up thinking that she would have to violate her religious principals.

Now, I am assuming that she actually has a religious reason not to issue the licenses. I have no religious reason that gays shouldn't marry. I am not religious. I just think that it is the dumbest idea that I have ever heard.

As far as acting like she won , I wouldn't consider going to jail much of a victory.

B) People are already driving to the next county, so your hypothetical doesn't hold water.

I don't want to know what it's like to live in your worlds....not knowing day to day whether you are going to be able to hold a rational conversation or not.

I've seen Quakers mentioned a lot in the example.

There's also probably sects of Christianity that are anti-gun; not sure it's an explicit commandment but when you get into Christianity you get into a ton of self interpretation.

Well have them go get elected to the Sheriff's office or whomever issues CCW permits in their county (and in the case of OH ALL of the adjoining counties) and don't issue permits.

Was part of her oath that she would only uphold the laws and orders if they didn't violate her beliefs? If it wasn't then it doesn't matter if they changed the rules or not. That's not valid at all.

She's acting like she won because she's ignoring orders. The going to jail part is all on her.

Do you even understand what a hypothetical is? You are really good at avoiding simple questions. So humor me, pretend the next county has a clerk doing the exact same thing, you think they just should be forced to just keep driving?

That is precisely what I would do, yes. I would keep driving until I reached my objective. I would get my license a whole lot sooner than the guys waiting out the religious lady.

Edit: I think that my attitude has helped me to succeed in life. You may not like me, but I do whatever it takes to achieve my objective without having to punish another person. I don't have to rub anyone's nose in a steaming pile of dog **** to achieve satisfaction.

People like you want to force your beliefs on others. You want the Kentucky lady to sign your piece of paper, so you can show your trophy to your cohorts. In your world, someone must lose in order for you to win. If you want more money, it has to come off the rich guy. He needs to pay more.

If I was gay and wanted to be married, I would take the most direct route, achieve my objective, and move on to the next thing that I wanted to accomplish. You will get a lot more done in life if you don't have to destroy what you perceive as the enemy.

What's amazing to me is that with this decision by the SCOTUS, the pro gay marriage posters act as if the long held (and upheld) precedents of not requiring someone to do something that is against their religious beliefs got thrown out with the bathwater. I believe that this issue is far from over.

Well I'm sure if they pounded their drum as loud as you pound yours they could. Probably could get elected president.

No, I'm an atheist.

No matter how hard I try, I'll never be elected to anything, even in a place like San Francisco.

Of course atheists have served brilliantly since time innumerable, but I'm talking about openly.

But that's another question for another day.

Stay on topic.

Was very much on topic and a direct answer to your comment.

I'm about sick and tired of you religious whiners constantly whining about how discriminated against you are and how unfair it is that you have to do this or that when you're in a voluntary govt. position.

You sound like the 8 year old that cries for lack of a participation trophy.

Get over yourselves.

If you can't handle the heat in the kitchen, then get your ass out of the ****ing oven.

It's the precedent. If one county can find an out then how quickly do other counties find religion and do the same? Twenty minutes today, an hour next month, two hours the next...

Where are you from?

Because, I really want to know.

You're going to sit here and tell me that the place you grew up denying you the right (yes, I said right, as it's currently defined by this nation and has been for centuries) to marry doesn't matter.

I would tell you that you're a privileged ignoramus, but since that will only further confirm how "right" you are, I'll just tell you that you're a privileged ignoramus.

It's like I've said before. And I always go back to it. Like Howard says to Katharine's family in "The Aviator," "You don't care about money because you've always had it."

You don't care about getting married in the county you've always lived in because it never was an issue for you.

Does this help?

I would drive as far as needed, get my license, and get on with my life, but that's just me. I wouldn't darken someone's door that didn't want me.

People like you want no borders. We are all just children of the world, right? So, what difference does it make where you get a stupid marriage license? You are making way too big a deal out of this. Are you taking medicine tonight?

Le sigh.

Unequivocally yes. Only with respects to the belief that marriage should be between one women and one man, the religious rationale is that of man and man is wrong - derived from Leviticus.

This common belief is shared between Westboro and ANYONE else who uses a religious conviction to discriminate against the gays.

How many more straw men are you guys going to cook up to try to derail this? Davis looks, dresses and in respects to the issue that made her famous, acts like she's a Westboro disciple.

I'm done addressing this, I feel like I should borrow some crayons from my neighbors kids and start drawing pictures so the explanation could be better digested.

Sure. We traveled across the country to wed; not everyone can. The thing here is we have conservative states actively looking for a way around the SCOTUS decision. If they are shown an out people living in the SE or MW will soon find their ability to obtain licenses very limited. You and probably 90% of this board have little issue with that, but I find it every bit as petty as the couples suing bakers over cakes. It's ridiculous. Selfish, petty children throwing tantrums when not getting their way.

If their "ability to obtain licenses is getting very limited," I certainly haven't heard about it. It is one, supposedly born again, religious freak in Kentucky from what I know.

This woman is nothing like Westboro Baptist Church Group. They are protesting her.
