Kim Davis

It's not "some view" they coincidentally share, it's a very specific belief that homosexuality is an abomination and is wrong before god's eyes. It's the very belief that Westboro screeches about and the very one where Davis decided to plant her flag.

I'm not a talking about the fact that Davis and Phelps have both similar clothing and hair styles (they do) - THAT would be coincidence.

Stretch much?

Are you sure that's her view or that she believes marriage is between a man and a woman. (you see the difference right?)

Because it is a matter of degree by a huge margin.

Bill Clinton believed that gay marriage was wrong in God's eyes so much he signed a national law against it. Was he pretty much the same as Westboro?

I don't think Bill Clinton believed it was wrong, I believed he thought it was the politically correct thing to do based on advice from his inner circle.

I looked it up, and she served 26 years in the same office as Deputy Clerk, and now a year or so as County Clerk. I would say that she is qualified. You just disagree with her on gay marriage. Would you say that she wasn't qualified to hold office if she didn't issue gun licenses?

I don't care what her personal view is. As a matter of law, she simply cannot be allowed to willingly and flagrantly disregard an order from the United States Supreme Court.

Wat? If you can't be intellectually honest to regress your question as to why she'd believe that... Then I won't chase you further down the rabbit hole.

You're right, I'm sure she's just a huge fan of tradition and it has nothing to do with with the arbitrary morality she's foisting.

You don't do faux outrage as well as LG.

I'm not outraged about Davis at all, just the politicians condoning her shi77y behavior for the sake of a few cheap political points.

I think it's comedic gold that many in here wouldn't see the irony of a clerk not issuing concealed weapons permits or the like because he or she was a pacifist.

Rush would stroke out on the spot.

There are Sheriffs who refuse to because they don't think people should carry. Which is fine if their state law says "may" instead of "shall". One gives discretion the other does not.

She isn't a hypocrite. She never married a woman, and then refused to marry same sex couples. She married men every single time, after time, and she IS a Democrat, so anything goes.

Not a hypocrite?

1972 called. It wants its UT degree issued to you back.

So what if he believed it or not? Makes no difference, he sighed the bill.

Go back and read how we got on that subject and why his belief was introduced.

I can't understand why were talking about this for you.

Not sure of the timing of her infidelities but I believe her conversion was in 2011.

As for having a sense of hypocrisy and care about moral integrity I'd say that is violated everyday by any number of public officials.

I'm over the hypocrisy card - I just can't get my outrage going over it anymore since it is so common.

I'm not sure either, but I'd wager that's when her sorry butt probably found her latest victim in marriage.

I'm glad you don't care anymore about public hypocrisy. We'll keep this in mind for future arguments.

Oh that's much better.

Interesting how you can tell what these people are really thinking.

I did. You are attempting to excuse the DOM act Clinton signed since it was done for political reasons.

Are you high? Your extrapolation is absurd.

They both hide behind their faith as an acceptable and rational vector to promote bigotry.

How is this not clear?

My extrapolation was absolutely absurd (on purpose) but so was your assertion. Like I said, you're simply using too much club and the comparison is all hell out of proportion. Even if I (or we, as I'm hardly alone in trying to point this out) totally accepted the most basic premise that both Westboro and Davis have issues with gay marriage it's not a license to make a valid comparison. A hand grenade and a MOAB are both conventional explosive devices but beyond that it just looks rather silly trying to put the two together.

Clearly plenty of people can be against gay marriage because their religion and not think homosexuality is an abomination.

In fact until very recently some very prominent people held that exact opinion. Were they lying? Do they secretly hate gay people?

So I do not pretend to know her inner feelings. I haven't heard her state what you claim she believes (though I have heard the Westboro people state it).

I have yet to find out if KY County Clerks must issue marriage licensees but here in TN most of what I've come up with is "may issue" if, then the requirements. To me that would mean a TN County Clerk has the option to issue licenses or not.

Bill Clinton in 1996

June 1996: Clinton tells LGBT magazine The Advocate, “I remain opposed to same-sex marriage. I believe marriage is an institution for the union of a man and a woman. This has been my long-standing position, and it is not being reviewed or considered.”

No different than Westboro amirite?

on signing DOMA

I have long opposed governmental recognition of same-gender marriages and this legislation is consistent with that position. The Act confirms the right of each state to determine its own policy with respect to same gender marriage and clarifies for purposes of federal law the operative meaning of the terms "marriage" and "spouse".

Again, as almost always the case in these situations, it's about low hanging fruit. Easy 'sin' to focus righteous condemnation and make a holy stand. Then erroneously claim religious persecution when called on your own persecution of others. And, yes, I know persecution is a misused term on both counts, but it's been tossed around frequently duing this debacle so decided to play along.
