Knox County Passes Mandatory Indoor Face Masks

Worse death numbers but lower numbers/percentages of infections if I am not mistaken. The US has gained expertise in treating COVID.

No one gives a damn about infections if they arent drastically altering the fatality numbers. Or unless youre intent on some political America hating mindset.

How can anyone reason with you? Somehow, you think I hate America because I believe differently about something than you. Are you a child? When did COVID became a plank on the pseudo patriot platform? Oh, that's right, we gotta stick up for Trump.

Give it a couple of weeks and we can hope there is no huge increase in deaths. But, as I illustrated earlier in this thread, deaths are up by 10,000 since the beginning of June. I wouldn't count those chickens just yet.

I'm not counting anything except that people like you are dishonest as hell.

Europe did better, europe did better!. Bullshtt.
You might can make that claim in 2 months but not now.

Additionally it honestly takes a simpleton to think you can look at 1 or 2 graphs and make some comparison. This thing is so complex in terms of population density, population age, percent in elder care facilities etc. It is quite the BS to think you can make these grandiose claims.

I will also add that my opinion is the US is at a distinct disadvantage with this illness. I doubt many counties do a better job of taking people with very unhealthy lifestyles and extending their life. We do that, and that scenario is custom made for this illness.

Just some observations from today. I've never cared enough to pay attention to masks until this mandate.

Went to a store in a somewhat impoverished part of town. Literally half the people not wearing masks.

Went to 2 stores in a more upscale hood, everyone had a mask except 1 person. That said, there were multiple people wearing below their nose. Many others rubbing their faces, etc. It is quite comical.

I went to a Walmart that sits between poor and well off areas. There were people of all colors and backgrounds there. I'd say about 99% of the people there were wearing masks. I only saw two people without them.

Who are you talking to besides yourself? Are you hearing voices in your head?

The poor place was a Dollar General. Even mix of poor black and white people. Half weren't wearing.

Hell, the damn store employee wasnt wearing one. Lol.

You realize that arguing that one or two countries are worse doesn’t meaningfully alter my point anyway, right?

You must not count well. I named 6. Six the left claims all have a better healthcare system than we do. And yes if your point is we are handling this the worst, it greatly alters your point.

Our approach worked well the past two nights but the 4th weekend is historically mild in Knoxville as far as bars. We'll see how it goes next week.

There was one guy who came in Friday, walked up to my key bartender and asked us "they're still making you do that?" in reference to our masks, to which I responded by tossing a mask to him and telling him it goes both ways. He made some snide remark and walked out. Today, he returned in a MAGA hat, harassed my hostess until my bouncer confronted him. He then whipped out his phone and started recording as I came up and nudged him off our property and told him to come back when he wanted to cease his crusade. He stormed off to an applause from our patio guests.

2020 is so ****ing weird. Regardless of where you stand politically, it's so strange to harangue a business for its practices as though you literally have nothing better to do. I think he was a mental case and I didn't want to see it escalate beyond trying to **** my hostess and insult my staff.

Good for you and your staff and here's to hoping that everyone he berated including you didn't catch Covid from said idiot!

I love that you thought this was a good point.

"Every other country is handling this better than us and it isn't because of herd immunity"
"WELL ACTUALLY BY (OFF-TOPIC) DEATH RATE PER CAPITA WE ARE 187TH OUT OF 195 COUNTRIES, SO THERE"

We were talking about how the literal hundreds of countries that are doing a better job of slowing this virus aren't out here pushing the natural herd immunity method, and I literally mentioned our curve becoming a near-vertical line. That's not death rate and worst vs. 7th-worst vs. 9th-worst was clearly beside the point either way

Watched a lab experiment that was shown on NBC news Last night. . Done in a medical lab. Pretty much proved that masks can help. Should not be too hard to find on Google if you are interested in knowing the truth. But any pct over zero would be positive, right ? I would wear a mask that was 50% effective over not wearing one at all. I hope you would be smart enough to do that also.

Particles come in different sizes and covid-19 ranges from 0.06 to 0.14 microns while N95 masks only filter particles greater than 0.30 microns. So, if the covid-19 particle is attached to a larger particle (say a water droplet) then it should be stopped by a N95 mask. Having said that, there are oxygen deprivation concerns with N95 masks especially if you have specific health issues (Stanford researchers reengineer COVID-19 face masks | Stanford News). In addition, many experts who believe this virus can aerosolize (Can COVID-19 Spread Through the Air?).

And, no, the cloth masks people are wearing do not come anywhere near stopping 50% (e.g., 1 layer of Kona cotton + 1 layer of flannel only stops 15% of particles which are greater than 0.3 microns).

Regardless, you are arguing for the exact opposite of what we should be doing which is to achieve herd immunity as fast as possible and healthy people who are not at risk wearing masks slows that down. Those who are at-risk should take precautions. I understand your sentiment and intentions which are all good but, unfortunately, are not the right course of action. No need to carry on our back-and-forth as I can agree to disagree.

So you believe the 3rd world healthcare systems are handling this the best? Seems like a disingenuous argument.

Of the “developed nations” we seem to be doing better than most and in no way the absolute worst as you claimed.

How do you even know herd immunity is possible?

I can't use reason to help you out of a position you didn't reason your way into.

Great non sequitur from the guy who has not cited any studies to support his position...you should have stopped after the bolded part...lol.

Here's a recap of what I have posted:

Can COVID-19 Spread Through the Air?

Here's a great chart in addition:

Above all, the greater point is that masks hinder herd immunity...having people who are not at risk wear masks while those at risk walk around with masks is the most asinine idea possible

This is my last response to you...carry on with your schtick.

How do you even know herd immunity is possible?

Because many already have antibodies for corona viruses (each year 7-14% of those tested have a corona virus present) and the data indicates very strongly we may already attained it but the fear porn greatly obscures it.
