Knox County Passes Mandatory Indoor Face Masks

Every other country in the world is handling this virus better than us and it isn’t because of herd immunity

We aren’t and never have been every other country in the world . You can’t name another country that is comparable to the US, we don’t do the socialism / communism thing yet and we aren’t sheep like the other countries . We have a little more say still than our government and so called “ experts “ for now . Don’t worry if your boy Biden gets in he’s going to use an EO to mandate everybody wear a mask so you can be happy then .

That's absolutely ridiculous. You vastly overrate the healthcare systems in other countries. I have spoken personally with colleagues who have confirmed that Sweden, for instance, has a near third-world quality of elderly care. I also have first-degree knowledge that our "numbers" are dramatically over-reported. I know of multiple reported "COVID deaths" that are clearly not even conceivably caused by viral infection.

It's a mess, and it's infuriating to those of us who are trying our best to stick with the science.

I am not sure what those numbers mean, but if that is a percentage of the US population that will die from each then that means that about 330,000 more people will die from COVID than the flu, a pretty large number. In the worst year, the CDC estimates a max of about 61,000 deaths in the US, most years significantly less. The COVID is at 132,101 and climbing steadily, more than twice as many as the max year from the flu and no end in sight for COVID. And yes, I will consider wearing a mask during flu season as I didn't realize the number of flu deaths was that high, however I do get flu shots each year to try to protect myself and others. I only remember having a fairly bad flu once, in 2012, when I felt very bad and missed work for 3 days. While apparently there are people who have little or no COVID symptoms, those who do are usually laid up for 10 to 14 days, so this is more serious for many people than the flu, and there are obviously many more deaths. There is clear evidence that wearing a mask will lower the numbers, so help us all out and wear the mask in public.

The current death rate for Covid is 4.5% not 0.25%. Will it keep getting lower? Yes, but the science deniers like to claim it’s no worse than the seasonal flu which is nonsense. The death rate for the seasonal flu is 0.1% and the IFR for Covid 19 is projected to be between 0.5-0.9 per researchers, which includes asymptomatic positives. Which means it is 5 to 9 times more deadly than the seasonal flu, the US is currently at 132k deaths. The last seasonal flu pandemic that killed over 100k Americans was 52 years ago which killed roughly 100k Americans per the CDC. Covid 19 is on pace to kill 179k Americans by October 1st which would be the highest number of deaths from flu since 1918.

Im over 50 and I’m not worried it’s part of developing herd immunity .

If the current death rate stays the same more than 2 million Americans will die before we reach herd immunity. And that assumes that herd immunity is actually possible with this virus, which is a huge unknown.

Meh .. you’re just a Dr. . Nash knows stuff man , plus he listens to the experts ( CNN , MSNBC ) and that Fauci dude that suggests things like wearing masks good , no wait mask bad , no wait kids can’t go back to school because well no reason just because .

Our curve becoming a near-vertical line, however, is not explained away by “overreporting”

It’s your odds of dying if infected. .16% vs .26%

Were does this insanity come from? Belgium, France, UK, Spain, Sweden, Italy all doing worse than us.

France not only has more deaths, their testing per capita is a fifth of ours (100k per million vs 20k)

Positive tests results without spikes in deaths is what you want . You can’t hide from this or your body won’t recognize it . Herd immunity is a natural defense .
I understand that but the country is going to close down again because of the resurgence. I have seen reports that herd immunitiy may not occur with COVID.

Do you intend in anyway explaining your insane claim that we are handling this worse than any other country?

Lower per capita death than France, Belgium, UK, Italy, Spain, and Sweden.

I'm referring to actually flattening the curve so that infections decrease, not the death rate once infected, which should have been obvious. I agree, NYC hospitals handled coronavirus cases about as well as they could have.

Just some observations from today. I've never cared enough to pay attention to masks until this mandate.

Went to a store in a somewhat impoverished part of town. Literally half the people not wearing masks.

Went to 2 stores in a more upscale hood, everyone had a mask except 1 person. That said, there were multiple people wearing below their nose. Many others rubbing their faces, etc. It is quite comical.

The county board of health feels important and needed though. That's what really matters.

Lol okay. We are handling this worse than anyone because we test 5x more than France. Thanks
