Knox County Passes Mandatory Indoor Face Masks

Why don’t you give the numbers? What flu outbreaks have done this much in so little time?
We've been prepared for the flu for decades, have a vaccine and still lose tens of thousands of all ages every single year. A bad flu year tops Vietnam war totals too yet not a single day of shutdown occurs.

Provide the years that annual flu Death totals since 1918 exceeded the death toll COVID has created this year.

You added up a couple of decades worth of deaths to make your point yet I'm limited to one? Add up the flu deaths for the last decade and let me know how it stacks up

You're clearly not reading anything posted by others and just hoping something sticks. Your arguments seem to be pulled straight from bad tweets

You were stating that flu deaths are comparable to COVID therefore the country should not have been shut down. You are wrong. Here are the stats from CDC.
2010-2019. Annual Flu deaths yearly range: 12K to 62K
COVID deaths as of today: 129.8K in about 4 months time.
Do you understand now why we we closed the country this year and have not closed the country for Flu? If you do not understand the stats above then the best term to apply to you is ignorance.

that was not my claim at all and you're still missing the point anyways. A bad flu year of 60k deaths, including children, is perfectly acceptable and has zero reporting or govt response. Even though we are prepared for its arrival and have a vaccine and treatments available. How many hundreds of thousands (millions?) have died from flu yet not a single day of work or school is shutdown?

Keeping up with this current response is a sham.

As someone who deals with white papers and scientific studies quite a bit, you can manipulate any study or paper to say what you want.

I mean if you want to believe that eating nothing but beef jerky for every meal is the best diet then there is a study or paper out that will say that.

Broaden your base a little. Or hey keep up the fight. I don’t care.

I wear masks for work all the time. I know what they can and can’t do. And clinically where they are effective and ineffective.
I understand reports can be manipulated and account for that. Just look at CNN and MSNBC news every night. It is my opinion there was no manipulation on the NBC report I watched. Masks although not 100 percent effective can limit exposure and should be worn. Are you stating this is in error?

You complained a shutdown has not occurred because of the flu but has for COVID. It’s because the Flu has not killed as many as quickly as COVID has this year, not even close as the numbers from the CDC indicates. That was the reason for the shutdown and if people do not start acting responsibly( wearing masks, etc) then we are going to see another major shutdown like thr end of March to mid April. I don’t like it but it Is going to happen. The numbers are going explode in the next two weeks because of July 4th.

Yet nursing homes were not severely isolated and contributed pretty much all death numbers over your annual flu numbers.

Yes I said 60k flu deaths (a virus we are prepared and vaccinated for) causes no needle movement whatsoever yet that many from covid shuts down the entire country (well, except for the places that truly need it). The initial response was understandable but ridiculously heavy handed. To continue it is asinine

But then a person can be accused of stating people life’s in Nursing Homes are not as important As the rest of the population. First shutdowns should have occurred. Hopefully their will be a better plan going forward.
They're not as important to the economy. Of course they were basically executed in NY

Lock down the vulnerable and open up business and schools

The first shutdown was warranted. See my response to another poster 5 minutes ago about my views how I hope we have a plan going forward.

132k deaths with a shutdown and its an asinine response?

Pretty tough to lockdown the elderly in Nursing homes, especially stopping all contact with their families. Not an easy solution.

Yet they were locked down and so were their families. No one said it's easy but this all or nothing approach is ridiculous and not doing us much good

You people. My arbitrary random number is lower than yours!

It wasn't family members that brought it in, in fact family members were prohibited from entering....it was Covid patients released from hospitals under orders from governors.

You have your opinion. That is what is great about this country. You want to opine that a report has not been manipulated. Mask up then.

I have watched the public mask wearing with amusement lately. The untrained general public doesn’t get how it works.

Disposable masks are disposable for a reason.

Are the wearers putting them on with fresh gloves?

Are they touching the masks or repositioning the masks with a fresh pair of gloves every time?

Are they changing masks between visits to multiple locations?

Are they washing the masks?

Are they placing them on with their nose hanging out?

Are the wiping sweat and other secretions from the facial area with a fresh towel and disposing this in a designated bin?

Do they remove the masks with a gloved hand?

Do they have access to an autoclave sterilizer to kill any organism that is in the masks after a day out?

This glosses over the problems with masks in general.

But hey I played lots of ball and I had my lucky shirt. And my data proved that my lucky shirt actually helped.
