Knoxville Restaurants

What did you get? I haven’t been since opening week. It was ok but didn’t think it was great.

The "Feed 5" family meal, pulled pork the last time. They raised the price by $5 or so, and made fries an extra $3 if you wanted them as a side.

I don't know what they are doing, but I suspect they are holding food for longer now and it shows.

You could be right. Pulled or chopped pork as well as sliced brisket doesn't hold for ish!

In case anyone was wondering, the new Chesapeake's out west is next door to Enterprise which is next door to Family Bowl. Across from Mayfield almost. Also now hiring.

Kingston Pike, W Knox. I have never been disappointed by the one in Maryville, and the one in Knox started out strong. No one in my family wants it again.

That stinks. That’s the one I’ve always visited. There’s a BBQ place (Rollin’ Smoke) here in town that pulled that stuff too. It was great for a while, and then one day I got a brisket sandwich that was over cooked and had clearly just been warmed up in a microwave. And to top it off there was barely any meet on the sandwich. That really ticked me off and they’ll never get another dime from me.

I know it's the busy Christmas season, but I had quite possibly the worst service of my life at Calhoun's tonight. This poor girl seemed to have been hired 15 minutes before our arrival with no training and no manual.

Turkey Creek? That's a sign of truly poor management. You don't hire a server and just toss them out on the floor like that.

Seems unlikely that was actually they case.

I had been understaffed many, many times, but I never threw a new hire to the wolves without proper training.

Which one? I was at the one on Kingston Pike last night. We sat in the bar area and the service was great seeing how busy it was.

Yes. I can't even list all the details, but it started when she didn't know what they had on draft "because she was new," then checked and said they didn't have any "seasonal" rotations. The three beers listed in the menu were just "the favorites that everybody likes.". I then walked up to the bar to get my answer and ordered the seasonal IPA.

Refilled my son's Sprite with her water pitcher, never brought the water she offered me, brought me the wrong side, then once bringing what I actually ordered, she was nice enough to tell me I could keep the fries they had put on my plate, "and she wouldn't even charge me extra."

It was so bad that it was actually pitiful. I'm super patient and forgiving, but some people would have murdered her.

Wife and I get date night tonight while my parents watch the boys. Looking for dinner recommendations from you locals

Thanks, we're here in Knoxville until Saturday. Just saw that menu and it may be a winner already.

Everyone I know loves it. Pricey, but worth it. If you try BBQ go to Sweet Ps on Jackson. On the square Cafe 4 is good and I don’t like it but I would say try Stock and Barrel. It is popular for burgers around here. For nostalgia I go to the downstairs Copper Cellar on Cumberland.

JC Holdway is one of the highest rated restaurants in the country right now. Another option.

That was suggested by another friend but I hadn't looked at it yet. Thanks

that's actually our default restaurant if we don't feel like trying anything new. I still knew the bartender last time we went :)

Strongly agree with LD and JC Holdway. Oliver Royale is also fantastic. If you can get in, Foothills Milling Co in Maryville is always amazing. Emilia is also worth considering for upscale Italian.

Sweet. Chef Tim is legit. Did you have a Sullivan Smoker? What did you eat?

Had beef tenderloin, elk loin, lobster hush puppies and some of the best brussel sprouts I've had. No smoker but I was tempted when I saw a couple go by. Presentation is pretty cool

The elk entree is the shizzle. Ditto on the Brussels, but Citico's are dang good too. They use a little sweet chili sauce and pork belly.

I have actually made my own version of the Smoker by firing a couple JD barrel chips on the grill when cooking, then putting them and a Manhattan under a pie plate cover for a couple minutes. Came out nice, but probably lacked the presentation...

Is that really worth it? $12 for a Bulleit Rye manhattan seems steep

tbh most of these $12 drinks seem like $9-10 cocktails

There's a little extra effort in that drink, but they're all overpriced at any restaurant. That's where the money is.
