Don't worry, there will be plenty here to satisfy you. You will probably have to drive, though
Plus a number of good BBQ, Mexican, and deli spots
Seriously, we are loaded with decent Mexican joints. Maybe they're not truly 'authentic' or hit all the foodie marks, but they have damn good, fresh food. My parents spent years on Lackland (which, granted, gave them more Tex/Mex tastes) but even they swear there's a lot of good ones.
La Fiesta on Western is the jam.

I might have to try them out. Do they lean more toward authentic?
What happened? When has O'Charley's really been that good?

Foothills is off the chain!
I like La Parilla in Turkey Creek and Meksiko.
La Parilla is the best Mexican in Knoxville IMO
I wouldn't call it "fine dining" by any means, like I said it's a chain but it's seriously gone down hill since a few years ago.
Brasserie
This is a fact! Need to go again soon. Been there twice, maybe 3 times and everytime it's bangin' food.
Tried La Parilla and honestly they are just as on par as Don Gallo and Pelancho's. All 3 are pretty much offering the same dishes, same quality and at the same price for the most part. I'd go to anyone of those 3.
Never had Don Gallo but Pelancho's is awful. La Parilla knows the secret to being great Mexican, and that is that they are not stingy with the cheese. You get queso, they give you a large bowl of it. You get something with cheese on it and it is smothered in it. It's quality queso too, quality ingredients all around there.
Southerners love their queso dip.
I don't eat Mexican food outside of the southwest.
Too many good spots in California.

Speaking of Queso... Weird story, a friend of mine moved to California about 7 years ago. I didn't believe this when he told me but he swears he can't find a single mexican restaurant that has the white queso that we eat all the time here at mexican restaurants. The only time he gets it now is when he comes back into town.

I have multiple Mexican patients that will ONLY go to La Parilla when dining out on their traditional fare. That tells me all I need to know about authenticity.
I hear the same about Linderhof with German, and both East Japanese and Tomo for Japanese.
I forgot that I bought a Living Social deal for Linderhoff a while ago. Need to go use it ASAP! Never been, what do you recommend trying?
