Knoxville Restaurants

I tried Stock and Barrel the other day. It was the best black and blue burger I've ever had. Favorite place I've been in Knoxville in my extensive 2 weeks of living here. Much better than the Taco Bell and Barbaritos lol

Have they gotten the kinks worked out? It was a little inconsistent when they first opened.

It was a little slow, but understandable considering how busy it was. They got all of food and drinks correct. No complaints really, but we didn't exactly put them through the paces.

Anyone know how the Cheesecake factory is fairing? Has the "new" worn off and the service finally in check?

My whole family went a few months ago and I was thoroughly underwhelmed. The food was very mediocre and the service was annoying.

Having a menu with that many options always throws up a red flag to me -- there's no way you can offer that number of dishes and be good at all of them. It usually means you just serve a whole bunch of average food.

That being said, the cheesecake itself, which we purchased to-go, was delicious (and expensive).

We ate at Chop House in Franklin Square over the weekend. I remember it being a pretty darn good restaurant back in the day. My, how times have changed. Will not return.

We ate at the Chop House in Kodak a few weeks ago. We will not be going back.

I've never understood the love for Stir Fry. I've eaten at both locations in KTown a few times each and the food has been crappy every time at both.

Really? I don't recall ever having a bad meal there. We ate at the TC Stir Fry Cafe probably 20+ times before it closed. We were just at the galleria location about a month ago and it made us miss having one so close.

we used to go there after church and I remember it being very good. Obviously that was a long, long time ago

It was prime time Saturday evening and very few people were there... No wait. I don't imagine it lasting much longer.

It's been some years since I went to a Cheesecake factory. In fact I think at least 10 because the last one I went to was in New Orleans. Lat I remembered though it was pretty decent food. I've heard about the gigantic menu from online reviews. Trying to look at a 15 page menu when you're really hungry seriously complicates things, imo. In addition there are probably a ton of dishes that are rarely ever ordered from that menu that could be trimmed off. I've been watching too much Restaurant Impossible. :)

What was the issue with the service?

We ate at the Chop House this past winter and though none of us had anything bad I think we all agreed the steaks at Connor's are better. We're big Connor's fans.

What do you typically get at La Parrilla when you go kiddiedoc?

I've liked just about everything I've tried from Stir Fry. I've honestly always viewed it as more like a restaurant that sells chinese food with a slightly different take on it.

As far as for Thai goes though I can tell you I'm not the least bit impressed by Taste Of Thai by any means. We typically eat at Lemongrass mostly for the sushi and proximity and the Thai I've had has been really good.

On a different note, I was lucky to try the Vietnamese Bistro in TC before they closed. Vietnamese is some good food! I'd love to try another Vietnamese place sometime.

At La Parrilla, there is some fajita-style dish served in a volcanic rock pot with multiple meats including chorizzo with cactus that is really good. I don't recall other specific entree names, but they've all been excellent.

We ate at The Orangery tonight for our anniversary. Lucked into their monday night Prix fixe: salad, filet medallions and lobster crepes, and dessert for $35. The food was excellent and there was a nice piano accompaniment. It's been awhile since we have eaten there, but it's a Knoxville fixture for a reason.

Ahh, a molcajete dish.

I've been to the Orangery several times over the years but ironically it was always for an event or something of the like and they only served hors d'oeuvres, vegetables, etc. so I've never actually had a meal there.

Agree. I ate there about 2 months ago. Food and service was terrible. Will never go back.

Kinda sad. Back in the day it was a huge debate on whether to eat at Italian Market & Grill or Chop House. Now its neither. Both places used to be awesome.

I've had the opposite experience. Food was great, cheesecake was lame.

I'm a fan of Carnegie Deli cheesecake. I've never cared for Cheesecake Factory though.

Finally made it to Stock and Barrel for a pre-show meal tonight. That's one great burger. The hype is warranted.

give it try...
the beer cheese app, is great
Beer is brewed on site, I'm a fan of the Red, and the Pizza's good along with the Cajun Pasta
I'm sure your group, would find something for everyone

It's in Western Plaza, across from Long's drug store

My wife and I went there last night for the first time. I had a tray of beer samples, and I must say that they were all solid. The Pale Ale was a little more Hoppy than I would expect for the style, but other than that they were all good. She is not a beer fan, but they had wine that she was happy with. The food and service were outstanding. I can definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

We just got back from Linderhof! It was an interesting experience. Lovely decor and the staff were all nice that we encountered. The menu just had the names of the dishes on them and no explanation to them at all so for diners who haven't been there before you're kind of at a loss from the get go. I forget his name but our server is apparently one of the brothers that runs the place. Younger guy, curly hair, and glasses. We inquired about the menu not having descriptions and he said he removed them because they(chefs or staff maybe?) were never getting the descriptions right on the printed menus and that change happened recently apparently. He was happy to describe all the dishes to us though. The service at first was slow, it took him a while to bring out the beverages. A couple of the glasses of wine actually came out before the sodas did. Their liquor menu was very limited, and they were out of several of the items not only on the food menu but the liquor bar as well. Surprisingly they were even out of Jagermeister but had Zwack which is a Hungarian equivalent. That one they actually ran out of after I ordered the first round, lol. We ordered the "Best of the Wurst" app and another one which was Bratwurst and a ratatouille, both of which we all enjoyed. The beer cheese soup was good but we all ultimately ended up using it as a cheese dip for the rye bread.
Four of us got schnitzel(chicken, veal, or pork) with either spatzle or the german pan fried potatoes. The potatoes were really good with that thin, crisp, fried outside. Someone else got the bratwurt dish with ratatouille and rotkraut(slightly sweeter red cabbage kraut). Three of the schnitzel dishes were treated with the Jaeger sauce which was very delicious the other had the ratatouille! We all tried a bite of each dish and we all enjoyed every one. I think out of all the schnitzels I personally preferred the chicken schnitzel because it was very tender and juicy but regardless all were good. We were the last table in the main dining area.
We asked our server why their selection on liquor was so limited and why they had run out of certain items on their menu. He basically said that since the move from the Ingles shopping center to their new location(which has a bigger kitchen and bigger dining area) they've been working hard at catching up financially, at least that's how I interpreted what he was telling me.

With really just a tweak or two here and there it'd be an excellent place. Regardless of the set backs the food was very good and we'd definitely go back again.

The Stir Fry Cafe at The Gallery is easily my favorite restaurant in Knox...I have heard some people say that they don't think it's been as good since Kenny Siao drowned (10 years ago this week) but if you like that kind of food, I think it's hard to beat. I always get either Kan Shaw with Shrimp, Pad Prik with Shrimp or the Spicy Noodles and their appetizers are spectacular. The crab rangoons and firecracker shrimp are delicious and their hot wings with thai chili sauce are the best wings I've ever had anywhere....If it wasn't for it's high calorie count, I would eat there every day.
